1 INTRODUCTION

This chapter presents the background of the study, related literature and

studies, its relevance, theoretical and conceptual framework, statement of the

problem, significance of the study, and definition of terms.

1.1 Background of the Study

Angel’s Burger is a budget-friendly fast-food chain that has become a

household name in the Philippines, known for its delicious burgers and

affordable prices. Angel’s Burger may include an analysis of its business

model, marketing strategies, menu offerings, customer demographics, and

competition in the fast-food industry. Researchers may also investigate the

company’s growth and expansion over the years, key success factors,

operational challenges, and future opportunities for development. In today’s

highly competitive global economy, businesses that prioritize and effectively

manage their supply chains are better positioned to succeed and thrive.

Optimizing inventory levels and reducing delivery times to minimize

delays and improve overall efficiency. Implementing strict quality control

measures to uphold Angel’s Burger’s reputation for high-quality offerings,

Utilizing software solutions like inventory management systems and pointof-

sale systems to streamline operations and enhance customer service through

improved data management and analysis.

Efficient supply chain management has a significant impact on

business operations, allowing companies to reduce costs, improve

customer satisfaction, increase flexibility and responsiveness, gain a

competitive advantage, and foster collaboration. Angel’s Burger currently

relies on its own logistics system, but there is a need for change in order

to become more practical and efficient. In a video discussing the logistics

of the future, machine automation is highlighted as a beneficial aspect for

businesses like Angel's Burger. By embracing technology integration, the

company can implement a supply tracking system across all of its

locations nationwide. This would enable them to monitor the inventory

levels at each Angel's Burger outlet and efficiently resupply shops that are

running low on stock.

According to the study conducted by Magpale et.al(2021), they suggest

Angel’s Burger Marketing Strategies need to improve in order maximum

profit potential and sustain the business. Aside from that one of the

problems of Angel’s Burger in San Bartolome, Novaliches Quezon City is

facing the lack of marketing strategies because even though they have

been in the market for over so many years , they still don’t have any social

media website for marketing their products. Which they can use to attract

more and new potential costumers as well as increase their brand

awareness that will help to change the negative connotation of other

people towards their business.

The purpose of efficient supply chain management in this context is to

ensure that ingredients and materials are readily available for each Angel's

Burger outlet, optimize inventory levels, reduce delivery times, maintain

consistent ingredient quality and product standards across alloutlets, and

streamline operations through the use of software solutions like inventory

management systems and point-of-sale systems.

1.2 Related Literature and studies

Research has suggested that availability of healthful food varies

according to rurality/urbanicity, Supplemental Nutrition. Assistance
Program (SNAP) participation, and sociodemographic variables. We
investigated differences in variety and cost of fruits and vegetables in
convenience stores, grocery stores, and supermarkets across Mississippi.
We collected data using the Nutrition Environment Measures Survey-
Corner Store. Among stores surveyed (n = 453), fruit and vegetable
variety were greater in nonmetro versus metro areas for convenience and
grocery stores but not supermarkets. Elucidation of food availability in
retail establishments serving SNAP Education (SNAP-Ed) clients is
valuable for planning outreach efforts; smaller retailers may be important
partners in rural settings.

According to new study (Gray, Verginia B. et,al, 2021) The Nutrition

Environment Measures Survey—Corner Store was used to gather data.
Convenience and grocery stores, but not supermarkets, had a wider
selection of fruits and vegetables in nonmetropolitan areas than in metro
areas among the 453 businesses that were assessed. Planning outreach
initiatives benefits from an understanding of the food availability in retail
locations that serve SNAP Education (SNAP-Ed) consumers; in rural
areas, smaller businesses may be crucial collaborators.

In this paper, we describe an innovative design for a multidisciplinary

service-learning course on supply chain management in the industrial
distribution program housed in the College of Engineering at a large
research university in Texas. The purpose of this course was to increase
students' technical expertise and build a mindset and skills needed to
tackle current societal issues, raising their social responsibility and
enhancing civic mindedness. The course combined curricular learning with
community service, applying the content of academic disciplines to
practice. It brought students from industrial distribution and sociology
together to help food pantries to improve their operational efficiencies so
that the food pantries can serve more people and work toward their goal.

In this project, student groups identified the specific needs of

community food pantries. They recommended solutions to improve
operational efficiency so that they could use their technical skills to
address the challenges and make an impact on the communities.

In addition, student groups interacted with partner agencies via

technologies that aided distance communication, which facilitated
partnerships in remote locations. We also evaluated this project. The
results reveal that this project had an impact on students' personal and
professional development as well as the community.

According to new study (Lu, Wei et.al, 2023) It combined sociology

and industrial distribution students together to assist food pantries in
increasing their operational effectiveness so they may serve more people
and accomplish their mission. Student groups determined the particular
requirements for community food in this project.

Coordinating humanitarian supply chains can be challenging in

terms of getting timely aid to those who need it. While operations in
commercial supply chains have been well studied, research studies that
address coordination in humanitarian supply chains are still lacking. Unlike
commercial supply chains, humanitarian supply chains focus on delivering
what customers "need" rather than "want" within difficult environments rife
with uncertainty. This paper introduces the "Humanitarian Aid and Relief
Distribution (HARD) Game" as an experiential learning tool that explores
the potential for increased operational efficiency while balancing decision
tradeoffs impacting humanitarian supply chain performance, including
beneficiary demand satisfaction, operational costs, and transportation
resources utilization.

The HARD game is intended for graduate and undergraduate

students in courses dealing with topics on supply chain management. It
allows students to analyze aspects that significantly impact humanitarian
supply chain operations, such as: supply chain coordination and planning,
supply chain risks, demand volatility, and competing objectives. Statistical
analysis of students' survey responses provide evidence that the HARD
game is an effective pedagogical tool that is engaging for students and
complementary to the traditional lecture format in the field of supply chain
management education.

According to new study (Susan, Alaswad et.al, 2020) Managing

supply chains for humanitarian relief can be difficult when trying to deliver
aid to people in need on time. Research on the coordination of supply

chains in the humanitarian sector is still sparse, despite the fact that
operations in commercial supply chains have been extensively examined.

Humanitarian supply chains, in contrast to commercial ones, concentrate

on providing clients with what they "need" rather than "want" in
challenging and unpredictable situations.

The research focuses on individual and additive/incremental

knowledge management approaches, including the Resource-based view
(RBV-KM), Knowledge-based view (KBV-KM), and Mixed-based view
(MBV-KM). The UIC is framed as novice product designers- customers
learning through a Malaysian B2C niche card design e-commerce platform.
The findings suggest that RBV-KM exhibits higher participation, KBV-KM
leads to more meaningful knowledge- sharing (moderated by leadership),
and MBV-KM results in better design outcomes, knowledge sharing, and
the highest designer-customer satisfaction.

The overall customer satisfaction rates aligned with these results. The
key factors influencing customer satisfaction are familiarity with the
learning environment and tasks, the type and quality of leadership,
feedback/comments from the UIC, and the development of community,
identity, ability, and cultural fit. The findings on rewards and (intelligent)
guidance are consistent with prior literature.

According to (Yew, Lee-Yin et, al ,2022) Organizational learning

combines specialized tacit knowledge and resources to enable the
development, integration, management, and innovation of strategic
interdisciplinary knowledge. In other words, organizations integrate their
core expertise and know-how to facilitate the creation, combination, and
application of strategic knowledge across different disciplines.

We present a classroom exercise developed to teach the tools of

determining order quantities and reorder points for inventory management.
This exercise presents the students with an inventory management
scenario but only provides a portion of the data that are required to set
order quantities and reorder points. The activity is a type of inquiry-based,
partial information exercise that requires the students to identify the data
they need and request it from the instructor to develop their
recommendations. It has been used successfully at both the
undergraduate and graduate level to teach inventory management
concept.

According to (Atkins. Byan D. et,al, 2021) The classroom exercise is

designed to teach students the techniques for determining order quantities
and reorder points in inventory management.

Recognizing the existence of customer-supplier roles and

relationships in the performance of research can lead to an improvement
in the management, and hence delivery, of research. Research, especially
university-based research, is often managed with a light touch, with the
researchers operating independently, and neither their institution nor their
funder intervening to a great extent. Whilst this has significant advantages,
the explicit understanding and execution of specific roles will enhance the
research performance for both those undertaking research and those
using its results.

This paper presents a simple matrix to help explore the

customersupplier relationship, and to identify some key activities of each
during different stages of the research process. Three stages are
identified, relating to the commissioning and winning of funding,
undertaking the research, and reporting and using the results. Each of
these provides a focus for a set of roles, which might be the responsibility
of different individuals or organizations. The role of the research
administrator in this model is also explored, to show how it is an integral
part. (Contains 2 tables and 5 footnotes.)

According to new study(Carter, Ian M. et.al, 2019) In order to better

understand the interaction between suppliers and customers and to
pinpoint some of the crucial tasks that each must do at various phases of
the research process, this study provides a basic matrix. There a

REVIEW OF RELATED STUDIES

An effective distribution channel can be a source of strategic

advantage for companies. However, little research exists about the
distribution channel structure in India, which is largely traditional and quite
unique. The first part of this round table article provides an overview of
distribution channels, particularly their constituents and structure, with a
special focus on distribution channels in India. The second part of the
article reports on a panel discussion with eminent academic and industry
experts on the challenges that companies in India face in designing,
constructing, and managing distribution channels on the ground.

According to new study ( Mulky, Avinash G. et.al, 2020) This round

table article's first section gives a general overview of distribution channels,
highlighting their components and organizational structure with a particular
emphasis on Indian distribution networks.

Supply chain finance (SCF) has attracted considerable attention being

an innovative business model that allows firms, especially smalland
medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to convert illiquid assets into cash
without incurring additional liabilities. However, its effects on SME
performance and risk have been insufficiently studied. The
competitiveness of SMEs depends on performance enhancement and risk
mitigation. Thus, this study constructs a scaled-decile rank transformation
of account receivable turnover to gauge the degree to which a supplier
implements SCF, thereby examining the relationship between SCF,
performance, and risk. We collect data on 4,679 SMEs from the Chinese
manufacturing sector.

Thereafter, hierarchical linear regression, a complex form of multiple

linear regression analysis, is employed to test the hypotheses. The results
indicate that an SME’s SCF adoption positively impacts its performance but
negatively impacts its risk. To further explore cross-sectional variability, we
investigated the buyer-supplier relationship’s moderating role. Results
show that an increase in customer concentration strengthens both the
positive effects of SCF on performance and the negative effects of SCF on
risk. Overall, our study contributes to the literature on the interface of
operations and finance in supply chains by exploring the multiple facets of
SCF adoption and highlighting the moderating role of buyer-supplier
relationship in SCF and SME competitiveness. Finally, we provide

managerial implications for SMEs and financial service providers by

validating the value of SCF implementation and the buyer-supplier
relationship management in forging competitive advantages.

According to new study (Liu, Feng et.al, 2021) As an innovative

business model that enables companies, particularly small and
mediumsized enterprises (SMEs), to turn illiquid assets into cash without
taking on extra obligations, supply chain finance (SCF) has garnered
significant interest.

The object of the paper is to study the relationship between

management accounting, strategic management accounting and strategic
cost management. The Aim is to define each of them based on a
systematic literature review of different accounting literatures in strategic
management accounting, to emphasize the relation between them. The
paper attempts to offer definitions of Strategic cost management based on
different authors throw the years and also to reveal a relationship that
exists between Strategic Management Accounting and other disciplines.

The enduring value of contextual view of management accounting and

its content emphasizes power and relationship between Management
Accounting, Strategic Management Accounting and Strategic Cost
Management.

According to new study ( Duci, Ejona et.al, Examining

the2021)
connections between strategic cost management, strategic management
accounting, and management accounting is the aim of this research.

It aims to address the lack of understanding of how sustainability is

being incorporated into quantitative inventory management models in the
supply chain context. The study is based on a classification of the
reviewed literature according to the following criteria: supply chain
structure, environmental approach, problem type, modeling, and solution
approach. As a result, 36 articles were analyzed and classified. The main
findings show that studies that incorporate social sustainability into
inventory management along supply chains are lacking, while
environmental studies are a growing research area.

Uncertainty issues also need to be incorporated into sustainable

inventory management models. Another important result of this study is
the definition of a roadmap with trends and future research guidelines.

The identified future research guidelines include incorporating decisions

that can help to improve economic, environmental, and social
sustainability. Thus, future studies should focus on both following
quantitative models that incorporate inventory decisions integrally with
transportation and location decisions, and more complex models, and
employing new algorithms and heuristics to solve them.

According to new study ( Mula, Pablo Baccera J. et.al,

It
2022)
seeks to
overcome a lack of awareness about how sustainability is being integrated into
quantitative inventory management models in the supply chain.

The fast-food service industry has been growing rapidly across China
over the last few decades. In accordance with the rising consumption level
in the country, Chinese customers care increasingly about their food
choices. The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors that can
influence customer satisfaction, loyalty, and happiness, with a particular
focus on the moderating role of gender. Data were collected through an
online survey completed by customers who visited Western fast-food
restaurants (KFC, McDonalds, etc.) in China. The structural equation
model was applied to test 12 hypotheses.

Results showed that perceived price, food, service, and physical

environment quality positively affected customer satisfaction. Perceived
price can significantly influence customers’ judgement of the quality
dimensions of a restaurant. Moreover, customer satisfaction and
happiness can lead to a sense of loyalty. Happiness functions as a
mediator between satisfaction and loyalty. Nonetheless, our findings
indicated that customers’ perceptions of food quality based on price and
satisfaction levels based on service quality differ significantly between the
genders, which demonstrated that gender moderation exists in food
consumption. This study will contribute to a better understanding of
managerial and theoretical perspectives, which will be beneficial for
subsequent research.
The resultsAccording to new study ( Zhong, Yongping, et.al, 2020)
showed that perceived price, food, service, and physical environment quality all
had a beneficial impact on consumer satisfaction. The perceived price of a
restaurant can have a major impact on guests' perceptions of its quality.
Furthermore, consumer contentment and happiness.

Collaboration is a commonly used term in business today, but few

managers understand how to implement collaboration effectively, nor do
they appreciate the potential value that may be unlocked by collaborating
internally within the organisation and externally across the supply chain.
Focusing on an individual’s or a team’s behaviour (e.g. cooperation, trust,
commitment and communication) often gets neglected, but communication
and trust are all too frequently linked with partnership failure.

Recognizing and managing behaviour in collaborative partnerships

becomes essential when managing more strategic and higher risk
partnerships. This chapter explores different interpretations and
approaches adopted within organisations to manage collaborative working.
Case study examples provide important insights in understanding some of
the key challenges, benefits and lessons that may be learned and
transferred in ensuring future best practices in collaborative working.

According to new study (Lynch, Jane, et.al, 2019) The word

"collaboration" is often used in business today, but few managers know
how to use it effectively or recognize the potential benefits of working
together both internally within the company and externally throughout the
supply chain.

1.3 THEORETICAL FRAMWORK

The theoretical framework is based on the Resource-Based View

(RBV) theory, which suggests that a firm's internal resources and
capabilities are the primary sources of competitive advantage. In the
context of Angel's Burger, the key supply chain management capabilities,
such as supplier relationship management, inventory management,
logistics and transportation management, and procurement strategies, can
be considered as valuable and unique resources that the restaurant can
leverage to gain a competitive advantage.By effectively managing its
supply chain, Angel's Burger can achieve cost leadership, differentiation,
and responsiveness, which can lead to superior business performance in
terms of financial metrics, operational efficiency, customer satisfaction,
and market share.

Vicky Mojica, a former overseas Filipino worker (OFW), founded

Angel's Burger with her husband Joseph in 1997. The fastfood network's
widespread accessibility and low prices made it a favourite among
students, workers, and families looking for quick and affordable meals.

Here are the key factors that can influence customers' choices of
Angel's Burger in the Philippines, Taste and flavor of the burgers, using
high-quality and fresh ingredients, Consistency in product preparation and
presentation,Variety of menu options to cater to diverse customer
preferences and the pricing,Affordability of the burgers and meals,
considering the local market's purchasing power,Perceived value for
money compared to similar burger establishments
,Competitiveness of pricing within the Philippine fast-food industry. By
understanding and addressing these key factors, Angel's Burger can
strategically position itself to attract and retain Filipino customers,
ultimately enhancing its overall business performance in the Philippine
market.
