HISTORY OF BAYOMBONG CENTRAL SCHOOL SPED CENTER

By: Mrs. Lorma J. Basilio
A. Pre-War Period
Bayombong Central School is a complete Elementary School. It began
when a two-story brick structure was designed and constructed by an American
Architect, Mr. Shay, and was completed in 1906. Classes were held at this brick
edifice which stood at the northern wing of the present Bayombong Central
School.
Administrators, mostly Americans, headed the school. Among the
prominent names were Mr. Wycoff, Mr. Larkins, and Mr. Deble. As years passed,
it was necessary to open a high school department so the same building housed
the first-year students. Due to an increasing population of elementary pupils, it
was impossible to accommodate the high school. Hence, the high school moved
to a new site leaving the elementary school where it was.
The following year, 1928, under the administration of Victor Bobila, then
the Municipal President (term for municipal mayor) the building was extended
to accommodate enrollees, and the school was called Bayombong Central School.
The student outbreak of the war in December 1941 closed the school. The
buildings were not spared from war destruction. The school was used as a
garrison by the Japanese. After the war, classes resumed and were temporarily
held in private residences of civic-minded citizens like Mr. Ambatali and Mr.
Alberto Genato, to name a few. Other classes were held under the trees and in
places where learning and teaching could take place.

B. Period from Liberation to 2000
In 1945, under the provisions of Department Order No. 04 pupils in the
last year of the elementary received their credentials as graduates, and those in
the lower grades were promoted. In 1946, the school building that was ruined by
war was rebuilt with the aid of the people of the United States of America under
the Philippine Rehabilitation Act of the same year.
From then on, the school was headed by different administrators under
whose incumbency, worthwhile accomplishments were made. In the late
postwar years, the Bayombong Central School was headed by Mr. Gabino
Danguilan who worked on the construction of the front concrete fence. He was
followed by Miss Remedios Tottoc, a strict but academic-oriented school
administrator. Mr. Ricardo Guzman came next and later, Mr. Modesto Abellera,
both of whom emphasized academic and extra-curricular activities. Mrs.
Anastacia Gajeton, another' dynamic leader made names in the academic,
athletic, and co-curricular competitions. Mrs. Inocencia Abella became the next
principal. She continued the good works of her predecessors.
In the late 1970's Mr. Mariano Baliton took over. He is remembered for
bringing the Bayombong Central School Children's Choir to the National
Competition for Young Artists at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and
coming back as 5th placer in the nationwide competition in 1978. With the
untimely death of Mr. Baliton, Mr Dexter Danao was assigned Teacher-In-Charge
for one year and it was during his time that another national award as champion
in Quiz Bee (Philippine History and Culture) was garnered by Aloyda Bacud with
coach, Mrs. Maxima Viernes. Mrs. Pacita Collit was the principal of the school
from 1982-1984.
Mrs. Estelita Par later was appointed principal and she made their
contribution in different areas of concern. Mrs. Eugenia Ballutay was next
assigned as principal. She was a strict and academically-inclined administrator
who brought the Bayombong Central School to the limelight especially in
Mathematics and in various regional contests. The next principal was Mrs.
Lourdes Acacio whose administration saw the construction of the first catwalk
on the school grounds followed by Mrs. Jovencita Balut who helped the school's
achievements in the field of campus journalism. Mrs. Leonida C. Sagaydoro came
next and under her administration, the school had the best teacher's choir and
the biggest Drum and Xylophone Corps (with more than 200 members). In
addition, the shop Building was renovated and relocated to the northeastern part
of the school. Marcos Type building was also renovated to make it more
conducive to learning.
For the next six years, Mr. Jose T. Beleno was appointed as principal and
his best legacy is the completion of the Special Education Classes: the classes for
visually-impaired, hearing-impaired, children with behavioral problems, and fast
learners in July 2005. At present, the Bayombong Central School is one of the two
SPED Centers in the Province of Nueva Vizcaya. The following notable projects

Narrative Portfolio 9
BACHELOR OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
AY. 2023-2024
were also undergone during the administration of Mr. Beleno: Renovation of the
Gabaldon building by the Jesus of Latter Day Saints, construction of the SPED
Center which also housed the principal's office; rise of computer room;
construction of Bagasao Type Building and Pangilinan Building.
In August of 2006, Dr. Erlinda C. Gumayagay assumed office as the
principal. During this year the Special Science Elementary School (SSES) has
started its first year of implementation in Grade I and Grade II.
The Imelda Building was made the SSES Building and the Special
Education Center. All Fast Learners' Curricula and classes for children with
special needs were relocated to the building.
The following year 2007, Mr. Cesario C. Mariano was welcomed to this
institution. Stronger working relationships were gained making the school
always on top. The school had its first internet connection, giving the SPED
Classes and SSES classes enriched lessons in Science, Math, and English. The
school had widened its working relationship, thus Project 57-75 Supplementary
Feeding sponsored by Jollibee Foundation and Bayombong Local Education
Alliance (BEA) was sustained from the 2nd year up to the present. Grade 1 below
normal was fed and the nutritional and academic performance of our pupils
gained a difference. Besides food supplemental, the stakeholders had given
Enrichment books made by Master teachers from beneficiary schools nationwide
in cooperation with Ateneo University. The school participated in various
National and Regional contests like the Search for the Heritage Building and Eco-
Friendly School, Most Outstanding SPED Teachers of the Philippines.
As an institution of learning situated in the capital town of the Province of
Nueva Vizcaya and established to serve the people, the Bayombong Central
School SPED Center has shown excellence and will continue the task of
developing well-rounded citizens who are assets of society.
The integration of Information and Communications Technology in the
curriculum made teaching and learning more interactive and retention level
higher thus making the national Achievement Test score higher. During his time,
the school had started the Headstart classes and he was able to get a permanent
item for Mrs. Stella Joy Calpito, the Headstart teacher.

February 15 – 16, 2024 Day 1: Deployment Day

On Deployment Day, my
group from BCES/sped center
arrived at the school at 7:30 in the
morning. At 8:30, the teachers also
arrived and we went to the
principal's office to inform them
that we, students from NVSU,
would be deployed in the school.
After that, the principal's assistant
assigned us to our cooperating
teacher.

One of the highlights of the

deployment day was the warm
welcome extended to students and
their families by the school faculty
and staff. We greeted each student
with smiles and words of
encouragement, reassuring them
that they were valued members of
our school community. This
gesture of welcome and support

was particularly important for

many students, especially those
entering kindergarten or
transitioning to a new grade level,
as it helped to ease any
apprehensions and instill a sense
of belonging.

For many students, especially

those starting kindergarten or
transitioning to a new grade, this
warm welcome and support
helped ease any concerns and
foster a sense of belonging.
February 19 – 23, 2024 I observed Teacher Aika's
kindergarten class for the first
time today. It was an insightful
experience that gave me a better
understanding of her teaching
style, classroom dynamics, and her
students' unique needs. I was
impressed by Teacher Aika's
passion for teaching, her
dedication to her students'
growth, and her ability to create a
nurturing learning environment
where every child feels valued and
supported. The children have a
daily routine where they follow
Teacher Aika. While only a few
children initially did not want to
dance, some eventually stood up
to dance and enjoyed the learning
process.
February 26 – 29, 2024
Today was my first day teaching
the letter Nn in kindergarten. I
was excited but slightly nervous,
especially about managing noisy
and inattentive children. As a
student teacher, I decided to
address this behavior by showing
them how to be quiet, listen, sit
properly, and raise their hands to
answer questions. Once they
understood the expectations, I
began my lesson.

I made a conscious effort to set a

Narrative Portfolio 16
BACHELOR OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
AY. 2023-2024

positive and welcoming tone as

the students entered the
classroom. Greeting each child
with a smile and a reassuring
word, I aimed to create a sense of
belonging and security in our
classroom community. Clear
routines and expectations helped
create a structured environment
where students felt safe to
explore, learn, and grow.

Reflecting on my second day as a

regular kindergarten teacher, I
feel a mix of happiness and slight
nervousness. Although the initial
jitters have subsided, there is still
a sense of anticipation and
eagerness as I navigate this new
role and build upon the previous
day's foundation.

Throughout the day, I experienced

happiness as I saw the bright
smiles and eager faces of my
children entering the classroom.
Their enthusiasm for learning and
excitement to explore new ideas
reaffirmed my passion for
teaching and strengthened my
resolve to make each day
meaningful and memorable for
them.

this week, we are reminded of
the profound impact of sports
in shaping character, fostering

in the spirit of sportsmanship
and collaboration, we reaffirm
our commitment to nurturing
the holistic development of
every student and
empowering them to reach
their full potential, both on

March 11 – 15, 2024 I carefully planned my lesson

before introducing the letter
"Ng", incorporating various

to different learning styles. I
am reminded of the
importance of patience,
creativity, and adaptability in
effectively teaching new
concepts, especially one as
challenging as the letter "Ng".
As a student teacher, I am
grateful for the opportunity to
learn and grow alongside my
students, and I look forward to
guiding them through many
more exciting learning
experiences in the days to
come.

Today, we dedicated the day

to preparing Bayombong
Central School for the
upcoming SBM - Regional
Benchmarking event. This
event holds significant
importance as it showcases
our school's achievements and
best practices to stakeholders
from the region. As student
teachers, we actively
contributed to the preparation
efforts by participating in a
school-wide cleaning initiative.
March 18 – 22, 2024 Today, I had the privilege of
introducing the letter "Pp" to
my kindergarten students.
Guiding young learners
through the exploration of
letters and sounds is both
rewarding and fulfilling as a
student teacher. Stepping into
the role of teaching fourth
grade has been an exciting yet
daunting transition. Engaging
with fourth-grade students has
already provided me with
valuable insights into their
developmental stage and
learning preferences.

April 1-5, 2024 Today, we, the students

students prepare their

upcoming event. As the
conference is
approaching, it's
important to ensure that
students have a

preparations.

The DSPC at Bayombong

Central School was a
resounding success,
bringing together
aspiring journalists and
writers to hone their
skills, engage in friendly
competition, and form
meaningful connections
within the district.

As I reflect on today's

While observing the
interactions between
students and teachers
during the Catch-Up

reminded of the
profound impact that
positive relationships
and shared experiences
can have on the learning
process. Teachers took
the time to connect with
each student
individually, offering
personalized support,
praise, and
encouragement. These
moments of connection

of trust and rapport, but
also created lasting
memories that students
will cherish long after
they leave the classroom.

In the days leading up to

lesson plans,
incorporated feedback,

further enhancing the
quality and effectiveness
of my lesson.
I was really impressed by
the high level of student

May 1-3, 2024 Today was the day of my
final demo as a student
teacher in a kindergarten
classroom. I must admit, I
was feeling incredibly
nervous. The anticipation
and excitement mixed with
a touch of anxiety made my
heart race as I stepped into
the classroom. The demo
began with a circle time
activity, where we sang a
song and engaged in a
lively discussion about the
letter "J". The children
participated and helped me
to calm my nerves as their
little voices filled the room.

Today has been a very

rewarding day full of
learning and discovery. I
am overjoyed and
enthusiastic as I reflect on
the numerous new teaching
strategies I've encountered
for teaching kindergarten,
thanks to Ms. Melissa. The

NARRATIVES

I embarked on my teaching journey with excitement and a touch of

nervousness. I was eager to make a positive impact on my young
learners, so I carefully crafted my lesson plans, keeping their needs
and interests at the forefront.

With a cheerful melody and colorful visuals, I sparked their

curiosity as we began our journey to discover words that begin with
the letter "N." From "niyog" to "nose," the children's eyes lit up
with excitement as they identified familiar objects and creatures.

Building upon the joy of our first lesson, we delved into the
delightful world of the letter "P" in our second session. With
laughter and anticipation filling the air, I introduced the letter "P"
through catchy rhymes and cheerful illustrations, igniting the
children's imagination.

As I gathered my students in a circle on the vibrant rug, I began

our lesson with a cheerful greeting, setting the tone for a joyful
learning experience. With a twinkle in my eye, I introduced the
concept of digraphs, explaining that sometimes two letters come
together to make a single sound, just like "Ng."

In the lesson plan, it is essential to have an understanding of hands-

on activities, games, and imaginative play to integrate
developmental milestones for kindergarten-aged children.

As I walked into the classroom for my second local

demonstration, I felt a surge of nervous energy.
Knowing that Sir Kevin was observing me, my
heart raced and my palms grew slightly sweaty. I
took a deep breath, determined to turn my
apprehension into passion and purpose. Gathering
my young learners around me, I greeted them with
a warm smile and gentle reassurance as I began our
lesson on the fascinating topic of "Parts of Plants."
I knew that my enthusiasm would be the key to
capturing their attention and calming my nerves. I
made connections between plant parts and their
everyday experiences, such as eating fruits and
vegetables or noticing different types of leaves in
the environment. This approach helped children
understand the relevance of the topic and
encouraged them to apply their knowledge outside
the classroom.

As I stepped into the classroom for my final
demonstration, a whirlwind of nerves and
anticipation swept over me. Today was not just any
ordinary lesson; it was my final demo, and to add
to the pressure, our esteemed early childhood
education (ECE) instructor would be observing me
closely. I took a deep breath.

As I greeted my young learners with a smile, I

couldn't help but notice the knowing glint in their
eyes. With a determined resolve, I began our lesson
on the captivating letter "Jj." My voice quivered
slightly with nerves, but my enthusiasm burned
brightly as I engaged the children in a lively
exploration of words that begin with the delightful
sound of "Jj." From "jelly ace" to "jacket,"
"jackstone" to "jumping rope," each word elicited
gasps of wonder and excitement from my young

In the dynamic field of early

childhood education, every day is
full of opportunity and promise. In
our kindergarten classroom, led by
Ma'am Aika, we embark on a joyful,
growth-oriented, and enlightening
adventure. The cornerstone of our
efforts is Early Childhood Care and
Development (ECCD), as we strive
to provide a solid foundation for our
young students' developing minds.

The importance of ECCD in a child's

early years cannot be overstated.
Young minds are most open during
this critical time, absorbing
information like sponges and
shaping their views of the outside
world. Under Ma'am Aika's careful
supervision, every encounter
becomes a chance for learning, and

work of art. With each child armed with glue,
scissors, and boundless imagination, we set to
work, ready to bring our vision to life. In that
