AVENUE MALECÓN IN GUAYAQUIL
The street known as Avenue Malecón in Guayaquil is one of the most emblematic and
recognized roads of the city. Its name is due to its location along the Malecon of the
Guayas River, which is an important point of reference for Guayaquil residents and
visitors.
Malecón Avenue is famous for being a meeting and recreation place for the city's
inhabitants. Along this street are numerous parks, gardens, plazas, restaurants, bars and
shopping malls that offer a wide variety of entertainment and dining options. It is also
known for hosting cultural and artistic events, such as concerts, festivals and exhibitions,
which attract tourists from all over the country.
The busiest places on Malecón Avenue are Park Seminario, popularly known as Park de
las Iguanas, and Malecón 2000. Seminario Park is a beautiful green space in the heart of
the city, where you can observe iguanas in freedom, which makes it unique and special.
It is a quiet and relaxing place, ideal for strolling and enjoying nature.
On the other hand, the Malecon 2000 is a pedestrian promenade that runs along the
Guayas River and offers a breathtaking view of the city and the river. Here you will find
several points of interest, such as the Anthropological and Contemporary Art Museum,
the South Market, the Civic Center and the Morisca Tower.
3. What are your favorite places on that street? Where are they? Why do you
like those places?
Samira. - My favorite places on Malecón Avenue are Park Seminario, popularly
known as Parque de las Iguanas, and Malecón 2000. I like these places because it
is a quiet and relaxing place, ideal for walking and enjoying nature with the family.
Vivian. - My favorite places on Malecón Avenue are the Gardens, it is a colorful,
beautiful and natural stretch of Malecón 2000. I like these places because it is an
area to walk quietly and learn about the diversity of more than 350 native plant
species and those that have been introduced to the country, it also has squares and
small squares created to complement the beauty of its nature.
Danny. - My favorite places on Malecón Avenue are the Plazas, especially Plaza
Olmedo is one of the main attractions of Malecón 2000, located in the south wing.
I like this place because it is a site that commemorates the Guayaquil hero and
poet José Joaquín de Olmedo, who was the first mayor of Guayaquil and the
precursor of the Revolution of October 9, 1820.
