Chapter 1

Prologue :

Every year, when the leaves turn brown and the grass dies, the villagers prepare for the
ruthless winter ahead, hoping their crops will be enough to survive the cold dark months.

The impending winter solstice will be different from the years prior. For it has been 7 years
since the north winds last blew, and like clockwork, the northern werewolves pack is due to
visit. Their hunt for new mates to bring in the spring season.

During the last week of autumn, when snow and ice have hardened the ground, every
unmated omega must be presented to the werewolf pack as a sign of peace. With the Omegas,
the offer of gifts; food, wines, and warm hides to furnish their den.

These unmated omegas must prove their worth to the wolves by hunting and surviving the
dangerous woods, alone. The selected ones will be courting the northern alphas and follow
the pack back to their home.

The Great hunt lasts until the Cold Moon reaches its fullest peak. When the final sound of the
horn resonates through the air, the Great Hunt ends. The winners of the Great Hunt will be
named pack leaders and will be allowed to start their own pack if they wish once their
leadership is over.

Polished leather, fur, and a gold necklace. Atsumu looked at the attire his mother set up for
him before the winter solstice celebration. He heard the stories so many times, and even saw
it happen as a pup once. Finally, the northern werewolves pack was coming back after seven
years.

The villagers had always teased him ever since he presented as an omega about how he
would surely be picked if he wasn’t already mated by the time the pack would be back.
Growing up with a twin and being competitive sure helped him become more independent
and resourceful than any other omegas in the village.

Atsumu knew how to hunt, fish, and camp. He wasn’t the only one, other omegas were
trained since they were pups hoping to be selected by the pack. He pretended to pay no mind
to it but deep down, he was curious. He remembered staying up late one night when he was
twelve years old to see those wolves turning into men and women and he had been required
to help in the village as well for the celebrations.

At that time he already knew about the deal between the pack and his village. The pack was
the village’s protectors and in return, they were free to pick their future mates from the
village. They celebrated the First Hunt gathering decades ago. Still, Atsumu fully understood
what the hunt meant when he saw that half of the omegas didn’t come back from their time
spent with the wolves. The next day he asked his father about it.
“What’s the point of going if they knew they could die?” Atsumu stomped his foot on the
floor.

His father scolded him at that time, telling him once again that it was an honor to participate
in the Great Hunt, the few omegas who left with the pack were practically legends in the
village.

Atsumu frowned at the memory. Faced with the actual decision to partake in the Winter
Solstice celebration, he scoffed. At that time, he didn’t understand why anyone would leave
their family and their home to go live farther into the mountains. He was now 20 and he
presented as an omega four years ago.

The moment he presented and his first heat ended, he was led to the village Elders. Learning
about the legends, the myths, and the actual truth. His mind, still fuzzy from his cycle,
wandered to his twin who presented as a beta a couple of weeks before him, he exhaled. At
least Osamu won’t have to go through that. His throat still tightened at the idea of leaving his
brother. Nonetheless, something inside him buzzed beneath his skin. Curiosity, hunger, a
prospect to leave the confines of the only place he’d ever lived in, and surprisingly, pride.

Atsumu glanced at his nest, caressing the materials with the tip of his fingers. It was what he
always knew. Maybe he didn’t feel as honored as he should to participate in the Great Hunt.
At least it offered him something to look forward to, that would take him out of his everyday
life. A slow, heavy exhale left his lips.

A knock on his door shook him out of his thoughts. Osamu appeared by the wooden
doorframe.

“Wanna go to the forest with me?” Osamu asked. “For old time's sake.”

One look at his twin, cladded in his hunting clothes, his bow secured on his shoulder and his
different knives over his body. One in his left boot, on by his belt, and the smallest blade
hidden in his sleeve. Atsumu smiled. Even if betas were better hunters, Atsumu would still
want to beat his brother to it.

“Ya sound like an old man, Samu.” Atsumu joked, concealing the lump in his throat.

“It’s called maturity, maybe ya should learn it,” Osamu threw at the omega his own hunting
gear with a huff. “Gear up, let’s go before night falls.”

Frolicking in the forest was exactly what Atsumu needed at this moment. To be carefree and
silly one last time with his twin, competing over which one of them could bring the bigger
amount of fish and rabbits, who could reach the river faster, everything they used to do
growing up. All of that made Atsumu feel lighter but it also made him acknowledge the lump
in his throat, growing bigger as the fateful day was coming closer.
“I want a rematch,” Atsumu huffed as they both lay down in the leaves beneath them.

“Want me to humiliate ya again? Ya got to the river first, take yer win and let’s call it even,”
Osamu grunted, rubbing his face down.

Atsumu was startled. “Ya never agree to call it even once in yer life,” he remarked. His scents
turned sour subtly. There was an unsaid truth behind Osamu’s choice of words.

“Don’t try to overthink it, Tsumu. Yer brain will melt,” Osamu wrinkled his nose.

While they lacked pheromones, a beta’s nose was sharper than any other secondary gender’s
which made them better hunters too. Osamu must have smelled the growing anxiety coming
from his twin. “Hey,” Atsumu hummed in return but didn’t dare to look at his brother. “Ya
don’t need to worry. Ya going to outdone everyone else.”

Atsumu bit his bottom lip when it started wobbling. He choked on the sob building in his
throat. “Am I stupid for wanting more than what we have here even if I don’t have a clue of
what it is?”

Osamu grabbed his hand, like when they were pups, a firm, reassuring squeeze to let Atsumu
know that everything would be okay. “Nah, yer just scared it’s okay. Just so ya know, we’re
not going anywhere. So, ya can go ahead.”

With his brother’s words, Atsumu felt the knot in his stomach loosen, tears falling along his
temple silently, getting lost in his dark brown hair. Wordlessly, he held Osamu’s hand until
the sun ended its course. Only one night left, he reminded himself.

The village was agitated. Ever since the first ray of light everyone was prepping for the
welcoming feast of that night. Gifts and spoils had been laid down by the altar usually used
for the gods. Today everything was different, the scenery, the villagers. Atsumu could sense
the threatening and worrying gazes who followed him all morning among the supportive
words and cheers.

“Good, they see ya as a threat,” the twins’ father puffed out his chest in pride during lunch
after Atsumu explained some weird interactions he had that morning.

“It’s not necessarily a good thing.”

Atsumu stopped eating and mirrored his parents as they all turned their attention to Osamu.
The omega’s brows furrowed before the realization hit him.

“He might have to hunt animals, but he’s not only a hunter out there,” Osamu looked up from
his plate, his jaw clenched.

“They could team up against me,” Atsumu mumbled. He hasn’t thought about that and he
should have. Some people were groomed the moment they presented as omegas. One of the
wolves could pick several omegas as their potential mates too.
Atsumu was pulled out of his thoughts by the warm hand of his mother comforting him, or at
least trying. Atsumu held her hand and smiled. “It’s going to be okay, we’re not even sure if
I’m going to be picked.” His mother returned his smile and squeezed his hand. Atsumu let
her clove scent coat his wrist and his heart clenched at the gesture.

The rest of the afternoon was a blur, it went all too fast and soon Atsumu was out of the bath
his mother had prepared for him. She helped him get dressed before Osamu came in. Their
mother left them. Silently, Osamu buckled Atsumu’s garments, securing the fur cape across
Atsumu’s shoulder like a protecting barrier. Atsumu could hear the crinkle of the newly
tanned leather against his skin. The fur felt suffocating, an unnecessary weight on his
shoulder.

The sun was running down its course and Atsumu felt every nerve on his body burning. A
cold hand landed on his neck, bringing his head to rest against his brother’s forehead.

“Deep breath,” Osamu murmured. “There’s nothing ya cannot do. It’s just a ceremony, like
when we are praying to the gods for good crops, and look, this year was good. We can
survive the dark months of winter and ya can survive this.” Osamu grounded him again. His
breathing turned back to a normal pace.

When Osamu leaned back, Atsumu opened his eyes and swallowed as Osamu secured a
leather braid around Atsumu’s forehead. It was a family symbol, one that was carrying his
family well wishes and protection.

“There, ya look good, just like our mother.”

Atsumu’s eyes blurred. On cue, their mother knocked at the door. The twins shared one last
hug. “Ready when ya are,” Osamu sniffed.

“Thank ya, Samu.” Atsumu’s words spoke hundreds of words they didn’t have to say out
loud. Osamu nodded and took the lead outside the bedroom. Atsumu’s parents embraced him,
murmuring prayers to their gods to keep him safe and successful.

The whole village gathered near the altar where large tables were full of food and drinks. The
sky was clear, and the moonlight highlighted the meadow at the feet of the mountains.
Everyone fawned over Atsumu, wishing him luck and good fortune. Atsumu felt dizzy. He
knew all those people, he knew the place, and yet, everything seemed different. The torches
lighting the celebration area burnt brighter than ever. Atsumu was handed a horn that was
pushed to his lips. He swallowed the drink messily. The warmth and spices curled at the back
of his throat, he wiped the trail of molded wine from his chin hastily.

The villagers guided him past the tables and bonfire, Atsumu looked up at the small hill, at
the top of it were the altars to pray to the gods. He wanted to look back but he was led
towards where the village Elders were waiting with the other omegas partaking in the Winter
Solstice. A hand on his shoulder paused the pressing crowd around him. Atsumu finally
looked back and found his brother's reassuring gaze on him.
“I’ll guide him,” Osamu announced and the villagers retreated, the scent of snowbells
reassuring him. Atsumu exhaled. Osamu guided him slowly to the Elders, Atsumu took his
time to regain his focus. “I know it’s scary, but ya were born for greater things than that,”
Osamu’s lips curled up and before Atsumu could even form an answer, his twin added, “So
go, conquer those monsters and play them like I know ya can.”

Atsumu’s heart swelled with affection but beat with excitement. He tilted his head to the side
with a grin that Osamu almost mirrored. The omega straightened his posture and walked past
the other omegas, in front of the Elders. He announced his presence with a smile, and the
smell of snowdrops swirled around him, filled with pride. Atsumu didn’t pay attention to the
heavy gazes on him as one of the Elders handed him a basket full of goods. He walked to the
end of the line where all the omegas were kneeling.

Suddenly, drums echoed behind the Elders, everyone fell into a heavy silence. The Head of
the village started to sing his prayers to the Gods, thanking them for the good harvests of the
year. A new prayer started, sending shivers down Atsumu’s spine. The old tale of the wolf
was a story Atsumu heard when he was a pup. He didn’t pay attention to it growing up until
he presented as an omega and heard the real version of the tale..

People shift into wolves during the full moon, giant beasts looking for prey to hunt,
frightening all the villages around. Until one of the pack alpha fell for a villager. Blessed by
the gods, their union sealed a pact between the wolf pack and the villagers. The wolves
would keep the village safe and in return, they could pick their mates among its habitants.

Atsumu dreamt about those beasts at night for weeks after hearing about them the first time.
He had millions of questions and apprehension but most of all, it birthed an undying hunger
for more.

The drums beat louder and deeper, the sound resonated in his bones, and a blazing fire
coursed through his veins. Howls echoed through the meadow. Atsumu snapped his eyes
open.

“The pack has arrived,” The Head of the village announced.

Atsumu was quick to his feet, staring at the thick forest. The cold wind stung his face,
cooling his burning blood. Shapes running through the meadow grew bigger. Atsumu could
hear them rustling through the crispy leaves on the cold floor. Soon those shapes were
standing on their feet. Atsumu’s throat dried out. He couldn’t make out how many of them
were here, approaching his village.

In the distance, he could hear frightened whispers, gasps, and alphas containing low growls.
All those sounds were almost buried under the echo of his blood pumping through his veins,
his heart beating in his ears.

The Head of the village, Aran, walked down the hill to meet the pack, Atsumu’s eyes darted
from one face to another as the wolves came into the flickering light of the torches. He
counted seven until one of the elders swat his shoulder. “Get in line, and bring the gifts to the
pack,” She told the omegas. Before Atsumu could start moving she snapped his ankle with
her walking stick, “Remember to behave and bow yer head.” Atsumu wished he could muster
a retort as usual but his mind was strictly focused on the pack.

As he walked down the hill, tall shadows became faces. Sharp, rough, muscular, hair tousled.
Atsumu held his breath, but it was too late. Smells came flooding his nostrils, earth, fire,
forest, musc, and Atsumu was overwhelmed by the powerful scents coming out of the pack.
His eyes fluttered, his tongue felt heavy, and his heart was in his throat when he breathed
quickly, trying not to suffocate or submit in front of everyone. He suddenly remembered the
drink they almost shoved in his throat, it was probably to prevent them from going into their
cycle.

Behind him, other omegas trembled, and tripped over their feet, some even fell on the floor,
too weak to handle it. Yer not going to make it, Atsumu thought about them. He cleared his
throat as he stood in front of the pack, feeling the other omegas mirroring him as he kneeled
in front of the pack, his head bowed at the ground, presenting a basket full of dry meat, wines
and hides.

All the omegas slowly lowered the village’s gifts to the floor and stood up. Atsumu wondered
if what he felt was fright or if the prospect of living something new was making his heart beat
loudly against his ribcage. He felt the need to puff out his chest, his inner omega was
intrigued, playful.

Who Atsumu assumed was the pack leader stepped forward, Atsumu clenched his jaw before
such a powerful presence. The man stood in front of everyone, his posture tall, commanding
and rough. His hair fell on his forehead, brushing his eyelashes, he sported a dark stubble that
gave his face an edge and sharp look. Aran came to meet the man before the omegas.

“Meian, I’m glad to see ya again,” Aran greeted with an extended arm.

The pack alpha, Meian, greeted him back as he grabbed his arm to salute him.

“I hope the year has been kind to ya, Aran, “ Meian smelled like a fire in the woods, burnt
Cyprus.

Atsumu tried to stay still but he could feel the curious gazes landing on him. His throat was
dry, and he blinked rapidly, trying to stay focused. Until he couldn’t, his eyes quickly darted
behind Meian and Aran who were talking about this year’s crops. Atsumu only met deep,
blazing golden eyes. Atsumu heard that werewolves’ eyes tend to change colors when they
grow up, it was a way to know their secondary genders before they presented. Unmated
alpha’s eyes were yellow then, Atsumu noted somewhere in his mind.

Once Meian and Aran were done with their talk, both leaders invited the pack and the omegas
to step forward. Atsumu took a step, he didn’t know where to look or what to expect really.
He knew it was a crucial moment, from now on to the end of dinner, he could be picked by
one or more alphas.
He saw other omegas baring their necks in front of the pack, trying to charm them with their
scent. Atsumu wondered if he should do the same, but he wasn’t good at that. He was good in
the woods, he was good at hunting, fishing, and taking care of others. This mating parade
wasn’t something he was comfortable with.

Subtly, he took a step back. Atsumu watched with a curious eye alphas moving forward,
gravitating toward different omegas. There were growls and purrs from all around Atsumu.
It was overwhelming. His ribs felt like crushing his lungs. He shook his head. Before he
could flee, the horn echoed across the village.

Everyone settled in a circle around the fire, meat and ale were handed and everyone mingled
and started to eat. Aran nodded towards the fire, prompting Atsumu to join the rest of the
pack and the omegas. Atsumu swallowed and grabbed himself something to drink.

Waves of laughter and chatters rang loudly in the air, Atsumu was fidgeting with his drink on
the side of the fire. He tried to ignore the curious gaze in his way. He was a bit more at ease,
slowly getting used to the heavy and powerful pheromones coming from the pack. Still, there
was one smell that intrigued him.

A smell that came with one intense gaze. From across the fire, Atsumu could catch a glimpse
of him. The alpha sat on the opposite side of him, his head tilted on one side like he was
trying to decipher some ancient runes. His long curly hair fell on each side of his face, a
chiseled jaw that could put Meian’s to shame. Atsumu wasn’t blind. He saw the alpha staring
at him more than once ever since the festivities started. He wouldn't lie either, something was
pulling him towards the alpha.

Atsumu didn’t know if he should make the first move and greet the alpha personally. He still
was pretty much clueless on how to act. His thoughts were cut off when Kita, along with
Akagi’s drums started to sing a blessing, a song about a wolf who conquered the forest and
became its ruler but who couldn’t defeat the moon.

Atsumu listened to the words carried by the wind, his shoulders relaxed as he closed his eyes
to breathe in the crisp air feeling his lungs, his body warm thanks to the burning fire. In the
air, he could feel more than he smelled, the thrumming desire to conquer one’s heart. On cue,
he heard the leaves crack under someone’s feet. The enticing, strong smell of pine piqued his
curiosity. A heavy gaze landed on him as someone shifted next to him.

An undescriptive feeling ran down his spine, leaving goosebumps and prickles along the way.

Atsumu’s shoulder brushed against someone’s broad shoulder, the pine grew stronger as the
person shifted until they sat next to him. He slowly opened his eyes, looking down at the
alpha seated on his right, he noticed calloused hands resting on the alpha’s thighs. His eyes
kept tracking up, drinking in the sight of strong arms, shoulders covered in fur.
Long curly hair, framing the raven’s side profile. Atsumu swallowed, his throat was dry.

The alpha turned to face him, Atsumu felt a pull, their faces barely an inch away. The omega
couldn’t tell if the loud beating came from Akagi’s drum or his heart, ready to burst out of his
chest.
Atsumu stared at those deep yellow eyes. In the back of his mind, he wondered if they were
more suitable to rival the sun or the moon.

The song must have ended as cheers erupted around the fire. Atsumu tore his eyes away from
the alpha to join in the chorus of praise, he felt the alpha’s eyes still piercing through him.
Another song started, Atsumu shifted in his seat. He drowned the last bit of his drink hastily,
leaving a trail of ale dripping from the corner of his lips.

The alpha narrowed his eyes, pupils dilating as he stared at the liquid, he slowly brought his
hands to Atsumu’s face and waited a second before swiping Atsumu’s chin clean. Atsumu
gasped and before he could either apologize or thank the alpha, the latter brought his finger to
his lips and licked it.

“Sweet,” the alpha whispered.

Atsumu felt his face burning. He didn’t know why but he grabbed the alpha’s hand in a hurry.

“Ya- ya don’t,” Atsumu sputtered.

"Kiyoomi," The alpha cut Atsumu.

Atsumu held his breath as he processed what the alpha told him and the heavy weight of the
raven’s hand in his.

“I’m Kiyoomi,” Atsumu heard again after the alpha cleared his throat. He nodded to the
alpha. “Atsumu,” he weakly replied.

Kiyoomi hummed, shifting his hand so that his thumb caressed Atsumu’s knuckles.

“Your hands,” Kiyoomi nodded towards Atsumu’s hands, “You’re a hunter.”

Atsumu looked at their linked hands, maybe he should’ve released it, but he didn’t want to.

“Not just a hunter,” The omega pushed the words out of his mouth.

Kiyoomi turned his hands, palms face up, to examine them. His fingers trailed along the dips,
scars, and cuts, mapping Atsumu’s hands as if he tried to understand his story. Atsumu felt
his face burn. “You’re not just a hunter indeed,” Atsumu looked up from their hands to see
with how much care Kiyoomi looked at his hands, “You’re a fisher, woodworker, mmh,”
Atsumu nodded and a rise of amusement filled him.

“What else?” Atsumu asked with a tease rolling off his tongue.

“A crappy cook,” Kiyoomi teased back and Atsumu sputtered. “Not the best at sewing, but
that doesn’t stop you it seems,” Kiyoomi finally looked up and their faces were once again
close.

Atsumu opened his mouth to retort something, but nothing came to mind. He took in the
details of the alpha’s features. Kiyoomi seemed strong, raw, and a bit out of place somehow.
But, Atsumu felt the same way sometimes about himself and the village.
“Atsumu,” Kiyoomi said as if he tasted something for the first time. “You,” the alpha cut
himself, seeming unsure of how to proceed.

A warm feeling filled his chest, and Atsumu felt himself relax. All the knots in his body
disappeared as something shifted inside him.

“Do ya think I can win?” Atsumu blurted with a hint of apprehension in his voice. It tore
Kiyoomi out of his thoughts.

Kiyoomi’s eyes flashed red as he turned his head towards the omega, in a flash of a second
they were back to their glowing yellow. Atsumu blinked thrice, trying to make sure he didn’t
hallucinate.

Suddenly, Kiyoomi brought his face even closer, his eyes staring deep inside Atsumu’s.
Somehow it grounded the omega. “I feel like you’re resourceful, strong, and determined,”
Atsumu’s breath caught up in his throat, “Yes, we can win.”

Atsumu exhaled shakily. His whole body trembled with a new feeling. He caught himself
almost purring at their proximity. His own scent of snowdrops spiked, Kiyoomi’s nose
twitched, and his pupils dilated as his eyes flashed red once again.

Atsumu brought a hand to Kiyoomi’s face, letting it hover before Kiyoomi gave him the last
push by cupping Atsumu’s hand and pressing it gently against the alpha’s cheek.

“Yer eyes,” Atsumu whispered. “I thought a werewolf’s eyes didn’t change color until they
got mated.”

Pine permeated around them, piercing Atsumu's skin, warming him. “They do,” Kiyoomi
replied. “Which color do you see?”

Atsumu tilted his head to the side, eyes darting from one eye to the other. “I’m sure they just
turned red,” Atsumu breathed out.

Kiyoomi shivered, and got up, Atsumu feared that he did something wrong. The remaining
warmth of Kiyoomi’s face still tingling the tip of his fingers. He looked around him but
couldn’t make out anything clearly. Suddenly a hand grabbed his arm to pull him up to his
feet.

The smell of pine surrounded him like a blanket. He looked up at Kiyoomi who was towering
over him. “Are you willing to be my partner for the hunt, Atsumu?”

Excitement ran through his veins, his blood boiled, and Atsumu felt like he was one step
away from his fate.

“Yes, alpha.”

Kiyoomi crooned. The alpha led them among the crowd until they stood in front of Aran and
Meian. Aran looked at Atsumu with a curious look as Meian and Kiyoomi clasped their arms
together.

“I’m glad to count ya as a hunter, Atsumu,” Meian said without looking at him, both wolves
staring at each other.

“Atsumu, come with me before the hunt starts,” Aran announced. Atsumu nodded and
reluctantly let go of Kiyoomi’s arm. Kiyoomi glanced at him, lips curling up. Atsumu
returned the smile and followed Aran.

Atsumu was led up the hill, farther in the woods. Atsumu tried to clear his head and process
everything that just happened.

“I’m proud of ya, Atsumu,” Aran’s voice sounded soft. Atsumu perked up at the praise. “I’m
letting ya a moment, don’t be too long, the hunt begins soon.”

Without another word, Aran left Atsumu on the outskirts of the forest, before he could ask
what was going on, a hand landed on Atsumu’s shoulder. The scent of snowbells flooded his
nose. When Atsumu turned around, Osamu was there.

Atsumu surged forward, bringing his twin in his arms. Osamu reciprocated the gesture by
hugging his brother tight. “Are ya okay? I saw someone picked ya.”

Atsumu held Osamu’s shoulders and it felt like he hadn't seen him in ages. Something in him
changed and it was whispering in his ear that Atsumu won’t ever be the same.

“I know, I didn’t think it would happen but, Kiyoomi, he-” Atsumu cut himself, catching his
breath, unsure of what to say.

Osamu’s eyebrows shot up, and a gentle smile adorned his face, soothing his previous
worries. “I know, I can see it,” Osamu squeezed his brother’s hand, “but remember to stay
focused.”

Atsumu nodded firmly before he embraced his twin one more time. “I’ll make ya proud,”
Atsumu affirmed.

Aran came back with an apologetic look on his face, “Atsumu, it’s time.”

Atsumu smiled at Osamu and followed Aran back to the hill. Quickly, Atsumu noted that
almost every omega was here standing in front of an altar, runes and books were opened on
the side. Candles melted and drawings used for blessings rituals rested on the altar.

Something shifted in the air, the trees rustled with the cold winds biting Atsumu’s cheeks,
carrying with it the scent of competition. Atsumu took a look at his fellow omegas and saw
nothing but hunger, except for some who put on a brave face that would have fooled Atsumu
if he hadn’t known them their entire life.

While omegas weren’t as aggressive as alphas or betas, they could still display great strength.
Atsumu smelled it, his own scent turning defensive, challenging. Growing up, he wasn’t the
most liked pup in the village and he was content with the way things were. He didn’t need to
mingle with pretenders. The few times he saw them at gatherings were enough for him. The
one time he truly got attention was when he presented as an omega.

Somehow, he regretted not paying more attention to them, now that they had somehow
become his rivals. Atsumu didn’t understand why they couldn’t just focus on winning instead
of sabotaging others. Yet, he was set on winning, on instinct his eyes roamed across the
crowd of alphas until his eyes found Kiyoomi’s.

The alpha was already looking at him. Atsumu exhaled and focused. If anyone wanted to step
between him and his goal, they better gear up because he was ready to claw his way back to
the alpha.

There was something about the way Kiyoomi looked at him. Something akin to pride, but
also challenging. He was asking Atsumu to prove himself. Atsumu wasn’t one to back out
from a challenge. The omega raised an eyebrow as if to say, “I’ll go beyond expectation, I’ll
show ya.” His inner omega walking in circles, ready to let loose.

The wait ended when Meian emerged from the forest. All eyes turned to the alpha. Atsumu
narrowed his eyes as he caught a whiff of snowbells. Osamu must be looking from
somewhere close.

Meian stood in front of the omegas and alphas, explaining the rules of the hunt. It was a
selection. The omegas had one night to bring the most food and prey back to the alpha of
their choice. It would show that they could provide for themselves, the pack, and their
potential pups.

They would be alone in the woods. The only rule was to “hunt and survive”. Atsumu
swallowed thickly as Meian’s voice emphasized the last word. He knew the woods by heart
but he only went in daylight. The woods were capricious and dangerous at night. Especially
without his hunting gear, Atsumu was barely prepared for a hunt. But he was nothing if not
resourceful.

Atsumu’s eyes darted to Kiyoomi quickly, looking for something to ground him. The omega
took a deep breath as Meian brought the hunting horn to his lips. Atsumu held his breath. A
loud sound echoed through the hill, meadow and the forest. Atsumu ran, carried by the smell
of pine.

Birds and creatures that lived at night moved in high alert after the horn rang. Atsumu
thought he could carefully run straight near the river where he could catch animals that came
at night to drink.

A whistle-like sound, the smell of iron and leather, Atsumu sensed the sharp blade flying
close to his face. He lunged in a bush, registering the hot liquid tickling down his face. The
leather braid fell in his hand. “Bastards,” Atsumu spat. He knew that it was a possibility to be
targeted by the other omegas, but he didn’t think they would act so fast.

Far from scaring him, Atsumu tore a part of his garnement to put pressure on the blood until
it stopped. He thought about his best options, he could hide his spoil somewhere, but then
again, the other hunters would be alerted by the smell of blood. He could quickly put traps
around one area and protect it, but he would be alone. Suddenly an idea came into his mind.
Not the best one in terms of time but the point was to bring the most by sunlight.

Atsumu cataloged all the traps already set by the village’s hunters and ran to them, trying his
best to avoid other unfortunate encounters. He gathered small prey in a big makeshift bag
made of ropes he found in an abandoned cabin nearby. Atsumu moved slowly, carefully,
muting his scent as best as could by hiding among strong scented trees and putting in motion
his plan.

It was probably three hours after the hunt began that Atsumu reached the hill where the pack
was waiting. From a distance he saw Kiyoomi standing up, Atsumu despite his aching
muscles and mind, flashed him a smile, dragging his bag in front of the pack and dropping it
in front of Kiyoomi bearing his neck.

“Keep that for me, will ya?” Atsumu huffed when he stood up to empty the content of his
bag.

Kiyoomi grinned at him and slightly puffed his chest. “You earned a favor, here,” Kiyoomi’s
hand disappeared behind his back, when it returned, Atsumu was presented a sharp, long
knife.

“Is it allowed?” Atsumu whispered.

Kiyoomi opened Atsumu’s hand with his free one, and placed the blade in the omega’s hand.
“The only rule is to hunt, Atsumu,” The alpha declared before leaning forward into Atsumu’s
space. Kiyoomi brushed Atsumu's brown hair back and growled at the cut. “Looks like you
will need it, don’t waste anymore time here.”
Atsumu was half staring at Kiyoomi’s yellow eyes and his sharp fangs. He never saw
werewolves’ fangs from that close and the sight made him shiver.

With a quick nod, Atsumu spined the blade in his hand and secured it in his belt, grabbed his
bag and ran back to the forest.

He repeated the same pattern in different areas he knew were popular among the hunters in
the village. Atsumu tried to stay stealth. Avoiding other hunters as much as he could. The
omega managed two trips back and forth between the forest and Kiyoomi. The wolf looked
prouder and prouder each time Atsumu came back. On his last trip, he noticed something that
made him freeze. Someone had been offering preys to Kiyoomi as well. He couldn’t help the
growl that left his lips as he looked at the pile. It was way smaller than his, but still, someone
was after Kiyoomi. It wounded his pride. His scent of snowbell turned edgier, more
aggressive.

Kiyoomi shifted in front of him, grabbing Atsumu by his nape. “Stay focused, show my pack
what you’re capable of,” Kiyoomi’s glowing eyes slitted. Atsumu shivered.

His inner omega was possessive, territorial even. Kiyoomi pressed on the gland of his neck
with his wrist, coating the skin with his pine scent. Atsumu relaxed a little, but his own mind
was set on hunting now. He sent a look at the alpha. “Watch me,” it screamed. The wolf
growled, pushing Atsumu to growl back, his fighting instincts getting sharper.

Without further notice, he sprinted back to the forest. Ears, eyes and blade sharp. He became
faster, fully accustomed to the lack of light beside the moonlight breaching through the thick
forest in some areas.

Atsumu ventured into a part of the woods where only advanced hunters go. The air was
humid, heavy in his lungs, creatures of the night shifting in the bushes. Atsumu kept his focus
on finding his way through the forest when the smell of rusted iron alerted him. He leaped on
the ground, growling. In the shadows, a shape moved. Atsumu pulled out Kiyoomi’s knife
swiftly.

Atsumu smelt cinnamon getting closer, he knew that smell. They’re coming for me. He
thought.

“Show yourself, let’s get over this quickly,” Atsumu snarled. His eyes darted through the
shadows, until they caught sight of his attacker. Atsumu heard a growl on his right and
shifted quickly, crouching down, ready to pounce.

Takeshi’s form came into view, lit by one of the few moonlight rays. “I thought ya didn’t care
about the Great Hunt, Atsumu. I’m surprised.”

Atsumu hissed, his grip on the blade tightened. “What? Feeling pathetic because ya can’t
play fair?”

Takeshi snarled at him, his shoulders tensed. “Ya might be a better hunter but I’m a better
archer and I will pierce ya before dawn. Who cares what ya bring if I take ya out?”
Snowbell cut through the thick, humid air, clashing with spicy cinnamon.

“I’d like to see ya try, ya pathetic good for nothing,” Atsumu spat and leaped forward. An
arrow whistled close to his left ear. He dodged it, but not the next one, the arrow cut the skin
on his shoulder, tearing the fur and leather he wore, apart.

Atsumu hissed. His blood burnt against his skin as it leaked down his arm.

Atsumu has hunted a whole lot of prey, but never a human before. Especially someone he
knew his entire life. They were past the time of playing in the river as pups. If Takeshi went
after him, he would bite back.

Atsumu shifted Kiyoomi’s knife, the blade close to his arm, he felt it dangerously close to cut
his skin. His blood boiled, a heat coursed through his entire body. Kiyoomi’s pine scent still
on his skin made him realize that he had something to protect. Atsumu wanted, craved it and
no one could pry it off his hands.

Atsumu strained his ears, catching every rustle of the winds, every leaf crushing under
Takeshi’s feet. He inhaled slowly, letting the crisp air filled his lungs. In the next heartbeat,
he jumped on Takeshi, pinning him to the ground, blade pressed against the omega’s throat,
his lips pulled back.

At that moment Atsumu might as well be a beast, ready to tear apart the flesh of a poor,
weaker being. His scent spiked, snowbell turning poisonous as it suffocated Takeshi who
could barely breathe without his Adam’s apple pressing against the cold knife.

“Ya coward, ya better run off the woods and leave yer pathetic dreams there. Crawl back to
whatever hole ya will find and never cross my or my alpha’s path ever again,” Atsumu
pressed the blade against Takeshi’s throat leaving him whimpering and scared.

Atsumu got up with a growl and watched the other omega scrambled to his feet to the
outskirts of the forest. Atsumu’s breath was ragged. He felt a cold, undescriptible rage
beneath his skin. But most of all he felt proud. Proud of defeating his enemy and protecting
what was his.

The wind blew behind him, cooling his sweat-covered skin. He closed his eyes and breathed
in, his hair flowing. Atsumu craned his head back, staring at the Moon. “See, ya can trust
me,” He whispered.

Without wasting another minute, he covered his wounds as best as he could. A part of him
wanted to rest in his nest until he could lick his wounds and relax, but it seemed that time
passed, and only a few hours remained before dawn. With a newfound resolve, Atsumu
picked up his blade and bag, and went back to hunt.
The sky cleared, water pearled on the grass, and the first birds awoke, chirping. The night
was ending. Half of the contestants were still missing. Some felt confident enough to put an
end to their hunt and stayed by the pack’s side.

Kiyoomi ignored the side glances from his pack. His eyes were fixed on the forest where he
saw Atsumu disappear in, less than a couple of hours ago. While some alphas and omegas
were busy celebrating, a crispy wind ran across the meadow, the alpha’s skin shivered. His
lips curled up as the wind carried the smell of snowbell around him. Kiyoomi stood up, a
croon rumbled in his throat when he saw it.

Atsumu grunted, pulling with him his bag full, his shoulders cried under the strain and the
weight. His eyes were fixed on the meadow as he crossed the last part of the forest. Birds
chirped louder, the thick mist dissolved slowly as he stepped past the last trees. Right in front
of him was his goal. The pack was there, and among them, stood Kiyoomi.
Atsumu felt lighter, pushing through, the pain in his muscles lessened as he crossed the
meadow.

The omega ignored the gasps and whispers at his arrival. He closed the distance between him
and the wolf, proudly adding his spoil to his previous pile. His chest heaved, his hands
trembled. Still, he stood straight.

“For ya,” Atsumu was panting, then he looked at the rest of the crowd, “and yer pack.”

The silence stretched before cheers erupted around him, Atsumu’s eyes returned to the
alpha’s. His legs felt like jelly, and yet he couldn’t help but want to stand proud in front of the
pack, in front of Kiyoomi.

The alpha looked down at everything Atsumu brought back and offered his hand to Atsumu.
The omega grasped it, and he felt himself collapse. Suddenly he crashed against a warm
chest, secured in a protective embrace. Atsumu’s head plopped on Kiyoomi’s collarbones.

“Welcome back, Atsumu,” Kiyoomi whispered against his temple with a croon. Atsumu’s
skin shivered as the wolf nosed at his cheek, then his jaw. Atsumu’s lips parted to draw in a
sharp inhale.

“I won,” was all he said.

Atsumu let himself be manhandled by the wolf as the latter placed Atsumu on his back.
Faintly, Atsumu heard Kiyoomi say that they’ll be back later as the omega drifted off to
sleep, comforted by the warmth of Kiyoomi’s back. He nuzzled deeper into the alpha’s neck,
seeking more of the pine scent before letting himself fall asleep.

Atsumu burrowed himself deeper into the fur beneath him. As he stirred, he heard the sounds
of wood crackling, and a burning smell warmed his face. Atsumu shifted, and he winced
from the sting throbbing in his shoulder. Despite that, the omega felt at peace surrounded by
pine and the distant sound of water rustling soothed him. His hands roamed across the fur
when said fur moved. The omega cracked his eyes open and sat up, a gasp left his lips.

A giant, dark, raven wolf was lying behind him, before Atsumu could get scared, glowing
eyes slit open, pleading him to not run away. Gently the wolf stood on his four, strong legs.
Atsumu didn’t move. The wolf approached him slowly, its snout pointing at the omega’s
hands. Atsumu offered his palm, letting the wolf smell it. Atsumu smiled. “Kiyoomi,” he
gently called.

Kiyoomi blinked and let his head drop on Atsumu’s shoulder. The omega hissed as he
recalled the fight with Takeshi, his scent turning sour. Kiyoomi sniffed his shoulder and
growled. Atsumu smiled and lifted the handmade bandages covering the wound.

“Gods, I’m glad it’s not that bad,” Atsumu croaked. At the back of his mind Atsumu realized
that even in his wolf form, Kiyoomi was tall, with an imposing aura. Still, Atsumu didn’t feel
in any danger. In the middle of a meadow, the omega sat back on his heels and held his palm
to the wolf. Kiyoomi sat in front of him, his snout nuzzling into Atsumu’s hand. Atsumu
released the breath he didn’t realize he was holding, his shoulders shaking as he laughed.

No matter what happened or what was about to happen, that moment was suspended in time.
Atsumu brushed his hand through Kiyoomi’s fur. It was thick and warm despite the
snowflakes starting to fall over them. Atsumu looked up at the sky and then back at Kiyoomi.
Sunlight was bound to disappear in a few hours with the sun ending its short race.

“It seems like I slept a lot, we should head back soon,” Atsumu whispered, “I want to see
what’s happening next.”

Kiyoomi looked up and huffed in protest, making Atsumu chuckle. Kiyoomi laid his head on
Atsumu’s lap, the brunette brought his hand back to the wolf’s fur, scratching the spot behind
his ear. “I heard stories about werewolves being ruthless and scary,” Kiyoomi glanced at him
expectantly, “But ya ain’t that scary for a big bad wolf,” Atsumu teased.

Kiyoomi nipped playfully at his leg and Atsumu laughed. “Okay I take that back,” he
surrendered. Kiyoomi pushed Atsumu on his back and the omega kept laughing until the wolf
towered over him. Gently, Kiyoomi lowered his head, eclipsing the remains of the Sun, two
yellow glowing eyes begging to swallow Atsumu whole. In the same manner, Atsumu
brought his hands to cup the wolf’s face.

Slowly, fur shifted into toned muscles, raven curls, toned skin, and the wolf became human.
Kiyoomi caged Atsumu against the ground, Atsumu blinked, soft fingers tracing the alpha’s
features.

“Yer amazing,” Atsumu whispered, he brushed Kiyoomi’s curls back and let his thumb draw
a line between the two moles resting above Kiyoomi’s eye. The alpha kept his eyes on
Atsumu, letting him draw shapeless forms on his bare skin. Kiyoomi’s body was warm under
the omega’s fingers, keeping the crisp wind away.

Suddenly, the brunette’s eyes widened. Atsumu lifted his head quickly, taking note of the
alpha’s nude form. His face reddened. He looked back up at Kiyoomi’s face. The alpha tilted
his head to the side in question.

“Hum, ya don’t turn back with yer garments on it seems,” Atsumu blushed. He let go of
Kiyoomi’s face and pushed on his feet to put some distance between him and the alpha.
Kiyoomi looked down at himself and got up, turning to grab a pile of clothes that Atsumu
didn’t notice before. The omega heard a chuckle as the raven put his clothes back on.
Atsumu’s throat went dry as he watched the alpha’s skin disappear under leather and fur.

Once Kiyoomi was fully clothed again, he offered a hand to Atsumu who took it. The omega
felt a fur cape being draped on his shoulders. Pine blanketed him, warm, raw, comforting.
Atsumu’s eyes fluttered closed, he brought the cape to his nose, burying his face in it, when
the realization hit him.

Atsumu jerked his head back up and cleared his throat to smother the purr climbing up from
his chest. Kiyoomi cupped the omega’s nape and brought their faces incredibly close.
Atsumu gasped at their proximity. Kiyoomi’s eyes flashed red once more as the alpha leaned
down and nosed at Atsumu’s jaw. The omega gripped Kiyoomi’s forearms for balance.

He quickly relaxed as the alpha trailed his nose down Atsumu’s neck. The omega never let
anyone get this close to his scent gland besides his family, but he wasn’t scared, as if it was
supposed to happen.

Atsumu’s whole body shuddered when Kiyoomi nipped at his gland. One of his hands flew to
Kiyoomi’s neck, pulling him closer. The scent of snow bells thickened around them. A croon
left Kiyoomi’s lips. A kiss pressed on his gland and Atsumu shivered. His purr echoed
around them.

“Kiyoomi,” Atsumu whispered.

Kiyoomi nipped once more before they faced each other again, their breath mingling together
in white clouds of puff. Snowflakes clung to their hair as the Sun and the Moon shared the
sky for a brief moment.

Kiyoomi took Atsumu’s right hand in his and took out a beaded bracelet.

“A gift, for you,” The alpha said, his eyes roaming Atsumu’s face.

Atsumu looked at the bracelet and back at Kiyoomi, he blushed and offered his wrist to the
alpha. Kiyoomi leaned forward, his lips brushing against Atsumu’s scent gland. The wolf
kissed the pulsing skin and clasped the bracelet on the omega’s wrist. When he leaned back,
Atsumu lifted his hand, taking the details of the bracelet. It was a courting gift,

“Did you make this-”

“I did it for you, while you were sleeping,” Kiyoomi cut him, his eyes pinned Atsumu to the
ground. Snowbells and pine mingled around them.

A warmth spread across Atsumu’s skin, located near his wrist. Pine coated his skin slowly.
The omega brought his bracelet up to his face. Blush reddened his cheeks down to his neck
when he realized that the gift was scented.

“Thank ya,” Atsumu whispered.

Their faces inched closer, hot puffs of breath were proof of their speeding breaths. Kiyoomi
brushed his nose against Atsumu’s. The omega licked his lips, his eyes fluttering closed.

Suddenly, the sound of a horn echoed across the forest and the small meadow. Birds flew
above their heads as they both looked up, startled. When Atsumu lowered his head back,
Kiyoomi was already looking at him.

“Meian is calling us, we need to go back,” Kiyoomi rasped out.

Atsumu nodded but didn’t move. Neither did Kiyoomi. Silence hung between them, a
question burning the tip of Atsumu’s tongue. The brunette’s lips parted, sucking in a breath.
“I-If I don't,” Atsumu cut himself, unsure of what to say. If I don’t win, would we be able to
be together? Atsumu wanted to ask.

“I’ll be by your side,” Kiyoomi replied nonetheless.

Atsumu nodded. Kiyoomi’s hand traveled from his nape to his cheek, cupping his face.
Slowly Kiyoomi rubbed their noses together before he leaned back.

Atsumu blinked, processing what happened. He watched Kiyoomi walk back to the outskirts
of the forest, offering his hand to Atsumu. Kiyoomi gave him a wolf kiss. A smile bloomed
on Atsumu’s face as he crossed the distance between them, grabbing the alpha’s hand.

A new resolve carved itself in Atsumu’s heart as they stepped into the forest.

Chapter 3
Chapter Summary

What happens when you win a werewolf weird courting Hunt? Well, Atsumu is about to
find out !

Atsumu let himself be guided through the forest, with Kiyoomi’s strong grip on his hand,
Atsumu let the warmth of the wolf spread through his body. He looked up and took the sight
of Kiyoomi walking in front of him. Strong and broad shoulders seemed to shield Atsumu
from every danger. The alpha’s posture reminded Atsumu that Kiyoomi acted more like an
animal than a human.

Disregarding what was proper and what was allowed between two people. Atsumu didn’t
mind, he remarked with a smile. He wasn’t one to play pretend.

“Do ya spend all yer time in yer wolf form ?” He asked.

Kiyoomi stopped in his track and turned to face the omega. “Depends, It’s easier to stay in
my wolf form, but the fleas,” Kiyoomi shuddered making Atsumu laugh. “But,” Kiyoomi’s
lips curled up, “there’s a place where I like to go, and it’s easier to go there in my wolf form,”
The alpha brought a hand to push Atsumu’s hair back. “I can’t wait for you to see it,” He
added, tracing the contours of the omega’s jaw.

Atsumu swallowed another purr, and Kiyoomi started walking again, clearing a path for the
omega to follow safely.

Atsumu asked questions about the pack, about how and where they live, Kiyoomi answered
every question the omega asked, pleased to see that Atsumu was curious about his pack and
his family.
“Yer not that different from us,” Atsumu remarked. Kiyoomi chuckled. “Except for the wolf
part I mean,” Atsumu corrected himself, a blush dusting his cheeks.

“Not every one of your people thinks that way,” The alpha carried Atsumu over a pile of mud
covered by dead leaves.

Atsumu clung to Kiyoomi’s shoulders and when he processed what the wolf just said, it hit
him. He wasn’t the first villager to join the pack. ”I remember when I was a pup, I saw half of
the omegas from my village not coming back from the Hunt. Some were killed, I assume the
others are all in yer pack now,” Atsumu said.

Kiyoomi sent him a look full of questions. “Most of you survived or fled this hunt, but back
when I was still struggling with my Moon cycles, it was harder, not every omega who got
through the Hunt made it to the pack,” The alpha declared.

Atsumu tensed. As he recalled his fight with Takeshi, he could’ve ended his life if it wasn’t
for the thought of his brother finding out Atsumu could kill someone. “But, if they survived
the Hunt, why didn’t they make it to the pack?” The omega’s scent soured with worry.

Kiyoomi turned around, Atsumu could smell that Kiyoomi was pushing his scent towards
Atsumu, comforting pheromones coating his skin, spreading warmth and reassurance through
his veins. “Some omegas ran away with the alpha, becoming packless wanderers. Others got
killed by other omegas and it’s against the laws to kill your own, so they were chased away
from the pack,” Kiyoomi’s jaw clenched, his eyes slit, turning darker.

Atsumu reached out, first with the tip of his fingers, then his palm. He brought his face closer
until he could nuzzle the alpha’s jaw, his fingers slowly tangled in dark curls. He coaxed a
croon out of Kiyoomi. Feeling the wolf relax in his arms, Atsumu nosed at the junction of
Kiyoomi's neck and shoulder. Pine was stronger there, the skin hot and tender. The omega
wanted to sink his teeth into that slightly swollen part where Kiyoomi’s scent gland was
calling him.

Kiyoomi cupped the back of Atsumu’s nape, bringing him closer. Atsumu took the gesture as
an invitation, especially when Kiyoomi tilted his head to the side. The omega shivered, he
brushed his lips against the gland, then he nipped at it. The alpha's hand in his hair tightened.
Atsumu purred, he rubbed their neck together, scenting each other for the first time.
It felt intimate, sharing the scent of someone he longed for. His instincts made his stomach
flip. Something within him shifted like things were falling into place. Kiyoomi tugged on
Atsumu’s hair, bringing their faces a breath away from each other. Kiyoomi’s lips looked red,
bitten. Atsumu’s eyes narrowed on them. The omega licked his lips, trying to get the taste of
the alpha’s. A growl thundered in the wolf’s chest making Atsumu whimper. Atsumu inched
their face closer, their lips brushing. Kiyoomi licked at the omega’s lips, watching with
rapture how they opened. Atsumu’s eyes fluttered, he was gasping for air.

Atsumu tightened his fingers, pressing Kiyoomi to close the distance in a bruising kiss.
Atsumu’s lungs expanded, filled with pine as the alpha stole his breath away. Pressing hands
itching to explore, to take and get closer. Their bodies were trying to melt together. The kiss
sent Atsumu into a delirious state. He craved what he was getting, but somehow it wasn’t
enough.

He let his hands wander to the alpha’s broad shoulders, gripping and holding onto them like
an anchor. Kiyoomi grounded him, making him feel every inch of his body. The alpha licked
the roof of his mouth, Atsumu shivered, and his knees buckled up, Kiyoomi was quick to
loop his arms under Atsumu’s thighs, lifting him in the air before his back met a tree.

Atsumu gasped for air, a whine fled his lips, his instincts preening under Kiyoomi’s hungry
gaze as their lips met again. Atsumu trapped Kiyoomi’s bottom lip between his teeth, earning
a growl from the wolf. His canines ached to pierce the skin and taste Kiyoomi in his entirety.

Kiyoomi growled, sending shivers down Atsumu’s throat. Pine and snowdrops rose in the air
around them. In Kiyoomi’s eyes, Atsumu could see the hunger. He could’ve sworn it was just
his reflection if it wasn’t for the flash of blazing red taking over the alpha’s pupils.

“Yer eyes are so pretty,” Atsumu purred with wonder, releasing Kiyoomi’s lips.

The alpha pecked his lips once more before he buried his face into Atsumu’s neck, his hot
breath tickling his sensitive skin. He tangled his fingers in Kiyoomi’s hair, scratching lightly
the spot behind the alpha’s ear. Kiyoomi nipped at his neck, making Atsumu tremble.

“I could stay here,” Kiyoomi confessed, a whisper ghosted over Atsumu’s skin like a caress,
and the omega replied with a purr after kissing the alpha’s temple.
A howl echoed above them. Atsumu looked up as Kiyoomi’s shoulder slumped. “We need to
join the others,” The alpha announced, reluctantly putting Atsumu back on his feet. Atsumu
nodded, he couldn’t help but smile at the alpha’s visible pout.

When Kiyoomi and Atsumu returned to the rest of the pack hand in hand, the omega was
surprised to see them ready to leave. The smell of snowdrops spiked and Atsumu’s grip on
Kiyoomi’s hand tightened. The alpha walked in front of him, tilting the brunette’s head back.

“We’re going back to our territory for the celebration,” Kiyoomi’s voice grounded Atsumu
who relaxed. The comfort and warmth of the wolf’s pine scent permeated around them and
Atsumu looked behind Kiyoomi before nodding.

“Let’s go then,” Atsumu straightened his back.

“One last thing,” Kiyoomi interrupted. The raven took a few steps back. Atsumu felt the air
around them thicken. The wind carried something animalistic. Kiyoomi’s features turned
darker as clouds covered the night sky.

Growls and whines echoed across the place. Atsumu froze on the spot as Kiyoomi took off
some of his clothes and lowered himself to the ground. The raven’s spine shifted with a bone-
cracking sound, his hands gripped the crisp leaves beneath a layer of snow. Claws and fangs
stretched, the curls disappearing under a rich fur coat. A snarl and Kiyoomi’s human features
were gone, except for his glowing yellow eyes that speared into Atsumu’s soul as they
flashed red once again.

A piercing howl rang, tearing Atsumu out of his stupor. Behind Kiyoomi, the pack had turned
into wolves. A couple of omegas fleeting the meadow back to the village, screaming in fear.
Atsumu had seen Kiyoomi in his wolf form before so he wasn’t scared but it was the first
time he saw a werewolf turn from up close. He swallowed, reaching for the wolf’s back,
swinging one leg over to straddle the wolf.

Around them, other omegas did the same, Atsumu looked up at the scene, it looked unreal.
Kiyoomi huffed and glanced back at Atsumu, the omega gripped the fur on the wolf’s neck
and leaned forward. Kiyoomi lunged ahead, and the pack followed, speeding through the
meadow and into the forest, Atsumu looked at the village getting farther and whispered his
goodbyes, carried by the crisp wind.
After a while, the pack stopped higher in the mountains, it was colder, and the Moon had
risen along the way. Stars littered the coal sky, reflecting on the lake where the pack had
stopped. Not far from there, Atsumu could see traces of life. Many new smells tingled
Atsumu’s nose. The omega realized that it was probably where the pack lived. His eyes took
in every detail, nose twitching with every new smell.

The night was fully settled when the pack slowed down their trek higher in the mountains.
The frost bit Atsumu’s skin as they got there. the Moon had risen along the way. Stars littered
the coal sky, reflecting on the lake where the pack had stopped. Not far from there, Atsumu
could see traces of life. Many new smells tingled Atsumu’s nose. The omega realized that it
was probably where the pack lived. His eyes took in every detail, nose twitching with every
new smell.

The pack slowly reached the border of a thick forest. Kiyoomi glanced back at Atsumu. The
omega met his eyes and followed where the wolf was looking. Before them, Meian led the
pack through the woods. Something akin to relief permeated the air, Even Kiyoomi seemed
to relax. Atsumu was curious.

They came to a stop. Before them, the trees had thinned out, and a whole sacred area was
delimited by runic stones and torches. Drums echoed ahead, reminding Atsumu of his own
village’s celebrations, and warmth spread through him at the not-so-distant memory.

Kiyoomi lowered himself to the ground, inviting Atsumu to get down. The omega complied
and watched Kiyoomi shift back to his human form. Atsumu blushed at the alpha’s toned
chest, his muscles shifting under a skin littered by moles, shaping galaxies. Atsumu
swallowed, ignoring the warmth blooming on his face, and unclasped his own fur coat to
drape it over Kiyoomi’s shoulders, he let his hands roam delicately over the warm skin before
Kiyoomi cupped his hands and kissed his palms.

“You are about to meet the rest of the pack, Our leader, Bokuto will guide you through the
ceremony alongside his mate,” Kiyoomi announced, “You will be asked to choose between
staying or leaving,” the alpha’s brows furrowed.

Atsumu bumped their noses together. “I’m not leaving ya, Kiyoomi.”
Kiyoomi’s lips curled up, the rest of the hunting party already made their way into the ritual
grounds, leaving them both at the entrance. “The current pack leaders will guide us through
the ascension ritual, meaning we will be asked to step in their stead,” Kiyoomi explained
while drawing shapeless words on Atsumu’s wrists, the slight pressure against his glands
made him relax, catching the alpha’s words after a pause.

“We?” Atsumu searched for the truth in Kiyoomi’s eyes.

Kiyoomi’s chest puffed, “You probably didn’t realize because you were exhausted and
wounded, but,” the alpha’s eyes turned red, “You won the hunt, Atsumu.”

The words rang loud in Atsumu’s head, he exhaled a laugh, his eyes wandering on Kiyoomi’s
face. “I won,” he tested the words on his tongue. Atsumu wanted to preen and parade. He
knew how important it was in his village, remembering how everyone talked about it with a
hint of fear or how they would use the Hunt as a comparison to show one’s bravery. And
Atsumu won.

Not only did Atsumu win the Hunt, but he was also presented with the opportunity to lead a
pack of werewolves, blessed by their gods. Among those opportunities, he got to rule
alongside Kiyoomi.

Atsumu’s hands tightened around Kiyoomi’s forearms, he took a moment to paint the wolf’
features in his mind, something to hold on to for the rest of his life. Those red eyes calling
him, Atsumu stepped forward. “This is one uncommon way to court someone,” he
whispered, a glint of mischief dancing in his eyes.

Kiyoomi chuckled, but Atsumu caught the tip of Kiyoomi’s ears turning red. The alpha
stepped back, and offered his hand, “Good, I don’t expect my mate to be common,” Atsumu
smiled and took his hand, his heart thundering in his chest as the words echoed in his head:
My mate.

They stepped inside the sacred ground, and Atsumu felt his heart race.
The pack was standing around the path leading to an altar, forming a crescent. The wind
whistled around them, forcing the flames of torches to dance and flicker, chasing the cold
away.

Atsumu took in every new face and tried to register every runic stone, the blessing of the
gods written on them as Kiyoomi led him toward the altar. Two figures stood there, ready to
greet them. From what Kiyoomi told him, Atsumu understood that he was facing the current
leaders of the pack. Atsumu glanced at Meian who was standing on his left, eyes fixed on the
pack leaders, he belatedly realized that Meian wasn’t the pack leader.

One of them only wore brown leather pants, a crown made of wood and claws sitting at the
top of his white hair, a giant coat of fur adorned with jewels sat on his shoulder, his red
gleaming eyes dancing with the light. He stood and smelt like an alpha, it must have been
Bokuto from what Kiyoomi told him before. Bokuto had a hand clasped with a man with
midnight hair and matching red eyes, dressed in similar garments, an omega. Both of them let
their mating bite show proudly. Mindlessly, Atsumu brought a hand to his own mating gland,
wistful.

Atsumu looked back at the omega leader, who was staring back at him with a fond smile.
Memories from when the twins were pups resurfaced, their parents used to leave the twins at
home for a few days to sell some goods at the bigger neighboring village's fair. There was an
omega who used to take care of them during the time their parents were gone, one from
whom Atsumu learned about werewolves and other creatures.

“Akaashi,” the name left his lips in a whisper.

Akaashi’s eyes softened. “You grew up well, Atsumu,” The omega replied with a gentle
tone.

Atsumu blinked and shook his head. He remembered that Akaashi took part in the Winter
Solstice’s Hunt seven years ago, but never imagined that he would be the one winning it. A
smile bloomed on his face, matching the older omega’s.

The pack alpha greeted them with a booming voice, his fangs sharp, peaking out as he smiled
at the crowd. “The Winter Solstice brought you all here, blessed by the Moon, you proved
your worth throughout the Last Hunt of the year. As tradition demands, Keiji and I served the
pack for the last cycle,” The alpha brought Akaashi’s hand to his lips, whispering something
to his mate who smiled at him. “We must step down and celebrate our new leaders’
ascension.” The hunting party turned their gaze toward Kiyoomi and Atsumu.

Atsumu met Akaashi’s eyes, and the omega let go of his mate’s hand to walk toward them.

“Before we celebrate the new leaders’ ascension, I want you to understand that a pack is a
family, a home. No matter who leads it, if you want to belong, you can,” Akaashi’s eyes
wandered to every hunter but lingers on Atsumu.

Atsumu huffed a laugh. Akaashi opened his arms and stepped back. “If you want a place
among us, you will be welcome as one of us. If you don’t, you’re free to leave. The Moon
will guide you in your decision.”

Atsumu took one step forward and then another toward Akaashi. It was like running toward
his fate. He glanced back at the wolf whose chest rumbled with pride and affection, pine
permeated around Atsumu as if the alpha was holding his hand.

“Welcome,” Akaashi said. The pack howled around them, and Atsumu’s heart raced.

The three omegas from the village stood proud, in front of Akaashi, soon joined by the pack
alpha. His oak scent permeated around them, like protection, reassurance, only a pack alpha
could provide.

“Koutarou, I think it’s time to celebrate the new leaders’ ascension now,” Akaashi said to his
mate.

“I know,” Bokuto held out his hand. Akaashi took it with reverence. They both walk back to
their place by the ceremonial stones. Bokuto grinned at the pack, his eyes gleaming with
pride. Each hunter walked back to their partners. Kiyoomi was quick to take hold of
Atsumu’s hand as soon as the omega stepped next to him. With a gentle tug, Atsumu’s hip
was glued to Kiyoomi’s. The cold air was being chased afar by the wolf’s body heat when he
circled an arm around Atsumu’s waist.
Around the altar, drum players started to beat softly. It sounded like a heartbeat. Atsumu’s
mind quieted down a little. He was anchored by the alpha next to him as he was guided to the
altar where both of them kneeled before Bokuto and Akaashi.

The leading pair said a prayer to the Moon as they removed each other’s crowns one after the
other. The reverence behind each of their movements had Atsumu longing. He glanced at
Kiyoomi who was already looking at him, his eyes still glowing red. A wolf’s eyes turn red
when they find their mate. Atsumu remembered.

At this instant, he wanted to forget everything about the ritual and take Kiyoomi in his nest to
claim him in return. Instead, he let his scent reach the alpha. Pine and snowbell melted on
their skin as the leaders held out their hands for Kiyoomi and Atsumu to take.

Kiyoomi was about to become the new pack alpha and Atsumu would be the new pack
omega. Blessings and promises were solemnly spoken without a second thought. Both of
their faces were painted to symbolize their engagement with the pack and their gods.

Lastly, Bokuto handed a crown to Kiyoomi who took it carefully, his chest heaving with
pride. Atsumu was handed the crown previously set on Bokuto’s head. He carried it carefully,
feeling the weight of it in his hands. A symbol of power, a distinction, but most of all, it was
the responsibility it carried.

Kiyoomi leaned forward, presenting his head to Atsumu. The omega placed the crown on the
raven curls and bowed in front of Kiyoomi in return, he closed his eyes. The weight settled
around his forehead. leather-laced fangs dipped in gold crowned him. Atsumu inhaled.
Kiyoomi cupped his hands, gently pulling him up.

When Atsumu opened his eyes again, Kiyoomi was now alone, a step higher towards the
altar. Atsumu straightened up and took a step forward, meeting Kiyoomi in front of the
sacred stone. The alpha leaned forward. Atsumu presented his neck, shivering when Kiyoomi
pressed a kiss to his mating gland.

Howls and drums thundered in front of them as the pack celebrated their new leaders.
Standing next to Kiyoomi, in front of the pack, Atsumu never felt so proud. The pack
congratulated them, offering cheers and encouraging words. Kiyoomi was almost tackled on
the ground by his pack mates. Atsumu smiled as he recalled similar memories of his own
family back in the village. His eyes slowly rose to meet the Moon with a silent prayer for his
brother’s well-being.

The celebration was still going strong when Kiyoomi pulled Atsumu out of a conversation
with Akaashi. The omega grabbed his crown before it could fall off his head. Atsumu
suppressed a yelp as Kiyoomi looped his arms around him. Kiyoomi's body was warm, a
trace of ale on his breath that the omega could almost taste as the alpha brought their lips
closer.

“I want to show you something,” Kiyoomi whispered. Atsumu barely had time to nod that the
alpha was already taking him away from the sacred grounds and deeper into the woods.

The night was cold, starlight flickered in the sky as Atsumu’s emotions settled. Kiyoomi let
go of him as they reached a rocky border of the woods near a waterfall. Atsumu stood there
watching as Kiyoomi smiled at him fondly. “Remember that place I talked to you about? The
place I want to take you to ?” Kiyoomi’s voice was soft, yet Atsumu felt the excitement
coming from the alpha’s scent spiking up.

“The one where it’s easier to go in yer wolf form ?” Atsumu tilted his head to the side.

“That one, yes,” Kiyoomi’s lips curled up, the tip of his ears and nose turning pink. “It’s my
den.”

The implicit question rang loud between them.

“The big bad wolf taking the poor omega in his den, I guess the rumors were true,” Atsumu
teased.

Kiyoomi slung closer, but Atsumu stood his ground, “Only one way to find out,” Kiyoomi
growled slowly, teasing Atsumu’s wrist with the tip of his fingers.
“Take me then,” Atsumu breathed out as his scent sweetened.

Kiyoomi stood back and shifted into his wolf form with a piercing howl echoing across the
waterfall. Atsumu settled on the wolf’s back, and they made their way across some parts of
the woods that would be impractical for humans to walk through. Rivers, rocks, and thick
roots sticking out of the floor without much light or stars to guide them through. Atsumu
wondered what it felt like for Kiyoomi and his peers to be able to go where simple humans
like him couldn’t.

Along the way, Atsumu picked up Kiyoomi’s scent on trees and rocks. He was coming to the
alpha’s den, the pheromones were thick and territorial, a warning to back out if Atsumu ever
saw one. Despite the scary appearance of the place, Atsumu felt safe.

Kiyoomi slowed down in front of a small waterfall. The sound of water was the only thing
Atsumu could hear besides the wolf’s heavy breathing. The alpha walked along the river and
rounded the water cascading, spending cold splashes of water on Atsumu’s face, shaking him
fully awake.

They entered a cave lit by the moonlight thanks to a breach above. The air was cool, but the
heat Kiyoomi was radiating from his body kept Atsumu warm. Kyioomi stopped and lay
down for Atsumu to come down as the wolf shifted back into his human form.

The place was filled with Kiyoomi’s scent. Atsumu padded around the cave, discovering
trinkets from Kiyoomi’s hunts and things he built.

“This is from my first hunt,” Kiyoomi said, taking a small fur cape from Atsumu’s hands.
The omega looked at the endearing expression Kiyoomi had on his face as he put it back on a
wooden stool, taking Atsumu’s hand to show him more.

“And this,” Kiyoomi said as he guided them to a round wooden nest made of furs, “is my
bed.” Atsumu looked behind Kiyoomi’s back, taking the sight with wonder. He had never
been inside an alpha’s den, even less a bed. Still, his instincts were pushing him to dive in,
put his scent alongside Kiyoomi’s and claim it too.
The alpha stepped aside as if he could read Atsumu’s mind. “You can make it yours if you
want,” Kiyoomi traced the column of Atsumu’s neck with his nose, before nipping at the
omega’s jaw. “It can be our nest,” he whispered against Atsumu’s skin.

Atsumu mewled at the invitation, brushing his lips against Kiyoomi’s. “I’m going to make
ya, a real pack leader’s nest,” he replied with a glint in his eyes when the alpha leaned down
to close the distance between them and press their lips together.

Kiyoomi let Atsumu go after their kiss to let the omega work through the nest. Atsumu
worked with precision and cautiousness to assemble the place. He never had such a big space
to play around and his instincts preened at the occasion to build a large, new nest for him and
his alpha.

When the nest was fully done, Atsumu caressed it with the tip of his finger and a purr of
satisfaction. Kiyoomi embraced him from behind, lacing his arms around Atsumu’s waist,
burying his face in the crook of his neck. “It’s beautiful, “ Kiyoomi whispered against the
skin.

Atsumu tilted his head, and let Kiyoomi press his lips on his neck, his breath hitched when
the alpha grazed his fangs against his swollen scent gland. Snowbells sparkled around them,
slowly mixing with Kiyoomi’s pine scent as the alpha’s grip turned firmer.

Fingers slowly detangled Atsumu’s attire, acting with the utmost care when Kiyoomi reached
the wound on the omega’s shoulder. The alpha kissed over the bandage, rubbing Atsumu’s
arm carefully. “I know hunters fight each other during the hunt, but that doesn't stop me from
wanting to rip them into pieces,” Kiyoomi confessed, a low growl rattling in his chest.

Atsumu turned around, cupping the alpha’s jaw to try and coax him out of his bubbling anger,
“It shows that I fought for ya and that I won,” Atsumu nipped at Kiyoomi’s jaw. “Now I can
stand next to ya, lead the pack with ya,” he leaned down to whisper in Kiyoomi’s ear, “Now I
can have ya.”

Pine coated every inch of the cave in a matter of seconds, Kiyoomi’s chest was thundering
with a pleased and feral snarl. They chased each other’s taste in a bruising kiss, hands
claiming each other’s body in a dance of limbs and short breaths. Atsumu felt like his whole
body was burning harder than the sun. Kiyoomi’s touch did nothing to extinguish the heat. It
added more to the omega’s feral need to claim his alpha.

Atsumu sat on their nest, bringing Kiyoomi down with him, he took the chance to remove
anything that covered the alpha’s chest, and let his fingers cling to Kiyoomi’s shoulder and
neck, keeping him here.

They mapped each other’s skin as their clothes fell on the floor little by little before fully
settling inside their nest. A necklace worth of fresh bites littered Atsumu’s neck and chest as
the alpha made his way down, kissing every inch of skin offered to him. Atsumu was panting,
trying to find a way to breathe despite the constant attention he received from the alpha.

Atsumu never felt like this, he never felt as powerful, and yet his sanity was fragile, even
during his cycle his instincts never clawed around his mind like that before. He struggled to
stay sane and coherent until the alpha nipped at the glands between his thighs. A foreign
scream fled Atsumu’s lips, barely acknowledging his own voice, the omega closed his legs
around Kiyoomi’s head.

Kiyoomi parted his legs firmly. As their eyes met, Kiyoomi’s eyes were blazing red, pupils
blown out. Atsumu couldn’t tell their scent apart anymore to contrast how every touch from
Kiyoomi was sending Atsumu into a spiral of need and lust.

Kiyoomi tore a whine out of him as his fangs pierced the skin and found a home in his scent
gland. Atsumu’s legs shook with tremors but the alpha’s grip on them left Atsumu no choice
but to go through it when Kiyoomi gave the same treatment to the second glands on
Atsumu’s markless thigh.

Atsumu’s heart and head were pounding, pine coursing through his veins, as Kiyoomi licked
the wounds clean. “I bet you taste as good as you smell,” Kiyoomi confessed in a trance, his
eyes fixed between Atsumu’s legs.

Slick trickled down, catching the alpha’s gaze. “Take me,” Atsumu mewled, breathless.
Kiyoomi’s hands shook as they let go of Atsumu's legs to flip him on his belly. Atsumu
buried his face in the pine-smelling fur beneath him as he presented for Kiyoomi.
Atsumu’s mind barely registered the warm breath against his skin that Kiyomi was already
getting a taste of the omega. Atsumu arched under the feeling, but Kiyoomi’s hold prevented
him from falling. He held onto the nest as a wave of pleasure washed over him. It wasn’t like
getting off during his cycle. This time, he wasn’t in charge, he was getting what Kiyoomi was
giving him. It felt intimate, vulnerable, and most of all, empowering.

Atsumu stopped thinking, succumbing to his own body, and thrust back against Kiyoomi’s
tongue. He let himself go, certain that it would be okay from the way Kiyoomi was holding
him. Atsumu took his pleasure, discovering how intense it could get thanks to another
person’s touch. His mind was filled with Kiyoomi; his scent, his touch, the noises coming out
of the alpha’s mouth.

Pleasure built itself quicker and harder, coiling at the base of Atsumu’s spine, the omega was
breathless. His knuckles turned white from his grip on the nest as he held it in, almost scared
of tripping over the edge. It all went into flames when a knuckle joined the alpha’s tongue
inside of him. Atsumu came with a silent scream, choking between his lungs. His arms gave
up, and his legs twitched as Kiyoomi slowed down to lay Atsumu down.

Kiyoomi nosed alongside Atsumu’s spine, the smell of slick clinging to his lips as he sucked
a fresh mark on the omega’s shoulder. Atsumu was non-verbal at this point, but his scent
translated anything Kiyoomi had to know.

Atsumu turned around to face the alpha, and weakly held the nape of Kiyoomi’s neck,
pressing lightly against the scent, sending shivers all over Kiyoomi’s body. Even in his
human form, Kiyoomi was looming over Atsumu as a predator ready to devour him. Atsumu
felt Kiyoomi’s pulse against his thumb as he pressed down slightly harder against Kiyoomi’s
gland. A low snarl bubbled into the alpha’s chest.

Atsumu’s lips parted, his eyes taking every shift in the alpha’s behavior as if he struggled not
to succumb to his own instinct and devour Atsumu right here and now. Atsumu grinned until
his lips melted against Kiyoomi’s.

The kiss seemed tender but Kiyoomi’s tongue was claiming Atsumu’s mouth with hunger.
Atsumu was lifted from the nest and settled on Kiyoomi’s lap as the alpha suckled on
Atsumu’s earlobe. The omega braced himself on Kiyoomi’s shoulder, gaining the leverage to
push the raven’s back against the nest, his hands splayed on Kiyoomi’s firm chest.
Atsumu settled against Kiyoomi’s length, rubbing it against his dripping hole. He took his
time pressing down against the alpha’s cock, watching Kiyoomi throw his head back. His
thighs burnt where Kiyoomi previously marked him, but the feeling delighted him.

Atsumu was ready to take his alpha and claim him, he leaned over the edge of the bed,
grabbed Kiyomi’s previously discarded crown, and set it back on the alpha’s head again. “Yer
first act as a leader is to make me yers,” Atsumu ordered, his voice as sweet as honey.

Kiyoomi’s fingers came up to cup Atsumu’s jaw, bringing their face a breath away, “It’s
about time you find out what it means to be the leading omega,” Kiyoomi growled. His eyes
never turned back to their yellow color. Atsumu stared at them with a fond look. “Yer eyes
are red, Omi.”

Kiyoomi’s eyes widened, his lips curling up. “Because I found my mate,” It was only a
whisper but it thundered through Atsumu’s core.

The omega leaned down, stealing the alpha’s breath away in a tender kiss. They held each
other through it, tracing every muscle, every dip, and valley of skin. Everything felt far away
as if their love kept the Earth on its axis. Like puzzle pieces coming together.

Atsumu felt pressure near his entrance. His lips burning from their kiss, Atsumu’s breath was
slow, focused. He lifted himself, guiding Kiyoomi’s cock to his dripping hole. Atsumu was
proud when he noticed how Kiyoomi’s eyes shifted to the place where their bodies finally
started to connect. It seeped into every fiber of his being as if he was branded.

The stretch was delightful. Atsumu only kept the tip of Kiyoomi’s cock inside at first,
enjoying the feeling. He was fascinated by how his own body accommodated his alpha. Long
gone was the fatigue of the last few days' events. Atsumu felt empowered, glorious.

Atsumu slowly sunk on Kiyoomi’s length, trying to control his breath, eyes closed, he was
savoring every second of it. His resolve snapped when clawed fingers dug into the base of his
spine and his hip. A growl rumbling made him open his eyes.
Before him, Kiyoomi was a delightful sight. A breathtaking one. Atsumu's fingers shook as
he reached for the alpha's jaw.

" Take me ," Atsumu demanded, sinking lower into Kiyoomi's cock.

Matching moans echoed between them when Kiyoomi pushed his hips up to meet Atsumu's
ass. Atsumu shuddered, his head hitting Kiyoomi's forehead. The alpha nuzzled his temple
when Atsumu finally caught his breath and acclimated himself to Kiyoomi.

It was as if the threads of destiny were holding their gazes, unable to look away as they began
their mating dance. Bodies grew hot under their blazing touch, breathing the same air around
them packed with their scents. A matching fire lit their gaze. Atsumu took all the details,
every flinch, twitch, and silent growl leaving Kiyoomi breathless. The glowing red of the
wolf’s eye acted like a burning iron, branded Atsumu’s soul. His whole body screamed to
claim and be claimed.

Pleasure built in his spine, coiled in his belly, and his body shuddered. Atsumu was out of
control, he wanted to take everything Kiyoomi could give. His nails raked the alpha’s back,
leaving red trails behind them. His mouth tasted Kiyoomi’s lips, his tongue, his skin.

Atsumu was hungry, and Kiyoomi fed him. Kiyoomi was restless, thrusting inside Atsumu as
if it was the only thing he was supposed to do. Praises whispered in the crook of the omega’s
neck next to his pulsing gland. Kiyoomi took, kissed, and worshiped Atsumu.

It was more than a heat, it was feral. Both of them let go of their control, melting into each
other as one. Atsumu was so lost in pleasure that he didn’t sense he was going over the edge.
"Omi," Atsumu breathed out, "Come on," his eyes tight shut.

Kiyoomi nipped at his jaw as one of his hands circled Atsumu's dripping cock, his thrusts
becoming faster. Atsumu surrendered to pleasure. He came on Kiyoomi’s cock with a choked
cry, tightening and milking Kiyoomi’s pulsing cock. The alpha bit into Atsumu’s shoulder to
smother the snarl he let out as he came inside Atsumu.
Atsumu sagged against Kiyoomi’s chest. Both of them spent, nuzzling into each other's neck,
trying to soak in their scent. Their breath echoed into the cave. When Atsumu finally lifted
his head from the cocoon of Kiyoomi’s neck, the Sun chased away the Moon. Atsumu
laughed, prompting Kiyoomi to look back at him.

“What?” The alpha inquired. Atsumu thought back to where he was just a few days ago, and
how things had changed. How he himself had changed. His days back at the village seemed
far away. Nonetheless, it felt right. In this little hidden spot where only he and Kiyoomi got to
share precious moments, Atsumu smiled. He cupped Kiyoomi’s jaw, tracing its contour with
the tip of his calloused fingers. Atsumu was used to handle wood, his hunting bow. Kiyoomi
fell under that category of a strong thing he already held, and yet he held onto Kiyoomi as if
he was the most precious treasure he had ever held.

“I’m a hunter, always have been, and I never thought it could’ve brought me to something
like this,” Atsumu punctuated by placing a kiss over Kiyoomi’s lips. The alpha smiled back
at him, capturing his lips, in a long, sweet kiss as he coated Atsumu with his scent.

“So, you’re claiming that I’m your most valuable spoil, is that it? ” Kiyoomi replied when
they parted, his red eyes gleaming with mischief. Atsumu rolled his. Without warning, the
alpha pushed Atsumu on his back.

Atsumu felt pressure on his rim and bit his lips to keep himself in check. Kiyoomi leaned
forward, “I need to show you how great it is to have me, then,” Kiyoomi started grinding his
cock inside Atsumu’s sensitive walls. It drew a moan out of him.

“We have all the time for that, alpha,” Atsumu replied, circling Kiyoomi’s waist with his
legs.

“I feel like I already wasted too many moons without you,” Kiyoomi closed the distance
between them, as they fell into a slow rhythm together.
- EPILOGUE -
Chapter Notes

This story is officially done! Thank you for following this story and I hope you enjoy it !

Thank you Chlo for beta reading this and brainstorming with me ! <3

Atsumu held his breath. His fingers pulled the bow tight. His eyes and ears focused. He took
in every sound and the rustle of the winds. His mind cleared, and his eyes shifted. With a
whistle-like sound, he released the arrow which found its target without trouble.

He walked towards his prey when another arrow flew by his head, lodging itself in the tree
where Atsumu was crouching by. He looked up and furrowed his brows.

“If ya want to take revenge, just ask politely, ‘Samu,” Atsumu retrieved the arrow from the
tree with a huff.

“I had to wait for days until ya finally took that deer out to do it, I was getting impatient,”
Osamu teased. Atsumu tutted his tongue. "Yer not really hard to track down either," Osamu
added, catching the arrow Atsumu threw at him in annoyance. "As much as you can mute
your own scent when hunting, ya can hardly mute yer alpha's scent," Osamu pointed at
Atsumu's bonding mark on his neck with the tip of the arrow.

Atsumu furiously blushed and sputtered curses at his brother, but couldn't deny it. Kiyoomi
and he had properly bonded during their last synched cycle and once the need to stay at all
times beside your mate faded, both of them were desperate for each other's scent. With time
they lost count of who was wearing who's garments as their scents mixed and surrounded
their den.

"Speaking of scent," Atsumu said with a glint of mischief, "don't ya think I could smell a
certain alpha of my pack on ya, brother ?" He playfully hit Osamu's brother who retaliated by
shoving him on the ground.
Both of them engaged in a silly squabble on the blossoming ground, laughter, and biteless
curses echoed around them before a howl pierced through the sky. Atsumu perked up
immediately.

"Kiyoomi's calling," Atsumu whispered, and both twins knew playtime was over.

"Duty calls," Osamu replied. The beta didn't miss how much his brother changed in the few
months he had been the leading omega of a wolf pack. Pride filled Osamu’s heart, and he
gently squeezed Atsumu's shoulder before helping him get on his feet.

Not without a tinge of sadness to be apart, they shared a brief hug. "The gathering is tonight,
we have to get ready for it, all the elders are coming," Atsumu reported everything to Osamu
to keep him in his daily life, as it always was. The only part of it he kept as a secret was his
story with Kiyoomi. Even if Osamu didn't need any words to see what was obvious.

"Maybe ya will be surprised," the beta added for good measure.

Atsumu rolled his eyes and gathered his prey on his back to take it back to the pack. "Please,
ya would think wolves would be above politics and all of that, but not at all," Atsumu secured
his belongings, and they both walked to the entrance of the forest where they usually part
ways.

The smell of pine got stronger as a tall shadow progressed through the thick roots and trees.
Atsumu's body shifted, ready to welcome his alpha.

With a final push, Osamu sent Atsumu to his alpha. "See ya later," Atsumu said without
looking back, and he could smell his brother sending his farewells.

The remnants of winter were all gone now, spring was blooming, and with spring came the
Pack’s Council. They had to go through the matter of food, territories, and alliance.
Everything was put to rest when the dark months came. Atsumu received guidance from
Akaashi on what to expect since it was Atsumu’s first council as the leading omega, and of
course, his mate was by his side.

"Why is my heart always thundering when you come back from a hunt?” Kiyoomi asked
when they finally stood a few feet away from each other.

“Fond memory of our courtship ?” Atsumu offered with a smile when Kiyoomi laughed.

Atsumu crossed the distance between them, letting his hunting spoil fall in front of the
alpha’s feet. “For ya and yer pack, alpha,” Atsumu teased.

Kiyoomi looked at him fondly and extended his hand for Atsumu to take, and Atsumu laced
their fingers together “Welcome back,” Kiyoomi brought him closer until they kissed, “I
missed you.”

Atsumu smiled into the kiss, “Let’s go home, Omi.”

Atsumu’s head was pounding and the elders had been talking over each other for the last
quarter. He wanted nothing more than to dive into his nest. He kept a strong composure to
match Kiyoomi’s, and Atsumu was pretty sure no one could see through his charade. Except
for his mate who rubbed small circles on Atsumu's wrist to keep him grounded.

As leaders, Kiyoomi and Atsumu were entrusted to lead the debate, listen to everyone’s
concerns and ideas, and act according to what they deemed best for the pack. The winter had
been successful for the pack, they had enough food, and no one passed due to any illness or
malnourishment. So Atsumu thought about something and leaned closer to Kiyoomi.

“I’m quite sure they are testing us as their new leaders,” Kiyoomi tapped his fingers against
Atsumu’s wrist to prompt him to continue, “I’ve never seen elders bicker like that expect
when they’re bargaining at the market,” Atsumu concluded, and Kiyoomi’s lips curled up.
Before one of them could say anything the elders became louder, arguments fell into deaf
ears, and nonsense was sputtered. Kiyoomi’s voice boomed across the place, “Enough,” he
quieted the crowd, looking at them with wide eyes and jaw slack. “The dark months are
behind us now, spring is blooming and we’re suffering no threats from outsiders,” Kiyoomi
eyed them one by one, “Things were carefully thought out by the previous leaders, and it
allows us to be at peace, and look for new ways to improve, not quarrel, so I invite you to
think about that instead.”

Atsumu squeezed Kiyoomi’s hand in support, a gesture that the alpha returned by rubbing his
thumb across his knuckles. All the elders looked among themselves before one of them
agreed on their behalf. “If anyone has something else to announce, it’s time, otherwise
Atsumu and I invite you to enjoy the celebration.”

People nodded and started to get up from their seats when Meian stepped in front of them.
Suddenly a scent way too familiar reached Atsumu’s nose. “To speak the truth I have a
request, leaders,” Meian spoke, chest puffed out.

Atsumu smiled. “Make yer request, Shugo, and we will listen to it,” Atsumu had an idea of
what the alpha was about to ask and it made his heart feel at peace.

“I wish to court an outsider from one of the villages we swore to protect.” Meian looked up at
Atsumu with a prideful grin.

“If ya can vouch for them, let’s arrange a meeting, and then decide,” Atsumu suggested, fully
knowing that soon, his brother would be able to prove himself and join his pack.

Meian bowed in gratefulness.

“Congratulations, Shugo,” Kiyoomi said before he stood up, joined by Atsumu, “Now let’s
enjoy the festivities, shall we?”
Cheers erupted, and the crowd soon rushed to the village to celebrate the end of the Spring
council and everything sweet the Sun brought with it.

Once they were back at their den, Atsumu and Kiyoomi shrugged off their clothes and crown.
Instead of going to bed, Kiyoomi took Atsumu by the hand to lead him outside, in front of the
lake.

The stars created a wavering mirror on the water, the night was still young, but here they
were at peace. Atsumu playfully climbed on Kiyoomi’s back who rushed them through the
clear water with laughter disrupting the quiet of the place.

The water was soothing, clear, and warmer now and both of them relaxed in silence for a
moment, letting their touch convey their thoughts. Kiyoomi traced the bonding mark on
Atsumu’s neck, a small smile on his face. His red eyes glowed, like a torch in the middle of
the night. The sight was magnetic and brought Atsumu closer until they embraced each
other.

“This is my favorite part of the Council, I admit,” Kiyoomi confessed before he nipped at
Atsumu's bottom lip.

“Leadership looks good on ya though,” Atsumu replied between kisses, swallowing the
mockery of a grumble Kiyoomi made.

“I find it funny that your first act as a leader will be to accept your brother in our pack,”
Kiyoomi teased. “It could appear as favoritism, you know?”

Atsumu rolled his eyes and looped his arms around the alpha’s neck, “Aren’t I yer favorite
though?” His eyes fixed on Kiyoomi’s lips. Not missing the way Kiyoomi swallowed.

“You are, but I’m yours as well,” Kiyoomi huffed.

“How can ya be so sure?” Atsumu brought Kiyoomi closer and straddled his hips while the
alpha supported him by his thighs.

“Well, you fought for me,” Kiyoomi said, while his hands roamed to Atsumu’s ass. “And you
won me.” Atsumu trembled slightly in Kiyoomi’s hold.

“It’s not ya, the water is cold,” Atsumu's failed attempt to lie elicited a laugh.

“I shall take you inside then,” Kiyoomi lifted them both out of the water and walked back to
their den. Atsumu was splayed in their nest as Kiyoomi towered over him, droplets of water
running down his skin that Atsumu itched the taste.

“Come here,” Atsumu whispered and Kiyoomi complied. Lips and limbs melt together as if
they did it many times before. Atsumu trapped Kiyoomi’s bottom lip between his teeth,
slightly piercing the skin. Kiyoomi hissed but his scent turned spicier.

“Looks like your fangs are getting sharper,” Kiyoomi said, licking at the blood on his lips. He
cupped Atsumu’s face and stared at his eyes. “Your eyes are getting redder too.”

Atsumu’s heart squeezed. His body started to shift and adopt more wolf traits over the
months he’s been bitten by Kiyoomi. “It means that I’m becoming more like ya then. It’s a
good thing.”

Kiyoomi crooned and crushed their lips together. The kiss tasted like the ale they drank and
blood. Atsumu mewled into the kiss as he brought his alpha closer. “Why don’t ya show me
again how strong I will be once I become a wolf myself?”

Kiyoomi’s pupils dilated, “I have to be careful because you’re already stronger than most,”
he confessed before he took Atsumu apart until the sun came up and Atsumu was fully
satisfied. With his body changing came a more feral hunger, especially when it came to his
mate. A hunger that Kiyoomi was more than willing to take care of.

In the quiet hours of the morning, Atsumu woke up. Sun lightened their entire den and bathed
Kiyoomi with a gorgeous veil. making him look out of this world. Atsumu admired his mate,
his fingers tracing the alpha’s spine. Kiyoomi clumsily grabbed Atsumu’s hip and brought
him closer.

Right there, Atsumu wondered if their cycle of reining will bring more mornings like that. He
was confident in their bond and knew they would make what was best for their pack. They
vowed to after all. Mindlessly, Atsumu let his thoughts wander to the future and what would
they leave behind. After all, they were known as the "Hunter, the lover, till the sun rises and
even beyond."

The end.
