AIM:
To make a L-joint/corner joint on two gives M.S Plates of size(100 x 60 x 8)mm,by Arc welding.

EQUIPMENT and TOOLS REQURIED:

1.Arc welding Transformer 8.Apron

2.Welding Electrodes 9.Flat file

3.Electrode Holder 10.Ground Clamp

4.Gloves 11.Wire Brush

5.Tongs 12.Face Sheild

6.Chipping Harmmer 13.Welding table.

7.Goggles

SEQUENCE OF PROCESSES:
1.Edge Preparation

2.Positioning

3.Tack Welding

4.Welding

5.Cooling

6.Chipping

7.Cleaning and Filling.

PROCEDURE:
1.The given wrokpieces are thoroughly cleaned of rust and scale. Also, edges of the plates are field.

2.The plates are placed on the welding table .They are positioned such that one plate lies along the corner of the
plate from ‘L’Shape.Tongs are used for the purpose.

3.The electrode is held in an electrode holder. The ground clamp is clamped to the welding table.

4.Power is switched ON and the welding current is set to a proper value.

5.As current is passed , an arc is produced between the plates and the electrode.

6.Plates are set in correct position, maintaining 3mm gap between plates and welding rod tip.

7.Using face shield,tack-welding is done at both ends of the plates and at the centre of the joint .This done to
avoid movement of the plates during welding.Aligment of the work pieces is checked.
8.Now ,welding is done through out the length of the ‘L’joint with inform movement.

NOTE:electrode kept at 15 degrees-25degrees from vertical and in the direction of welding.

9.The power supply is switched off ,after finishing the welding.

10.Welded plates are allowed per a cooling. Then ,slags are removes by champing hammer.

11.Filling is done to remove spatter ,if any ,around the weld.Weld joint is cleaned by wire brush.

RESULT:
Thus, the required’L’or’corner joint’ is made on the given M.S plates by Arc welding
