Shadow The Black Crochet Cat –

Miniature Edition

What you’ll need


• US 4 (3.5mm) Crochet Hook
• Approximately 50g of black DK yarn.
• Ribbon for the bow (optional)
• Acrylic toy stuffing
• 1 x pair 8mm safety eyes
• Stitch marker
• Scissors
• Sewing needle
Abbreviations
• MR – Magic ring
• CH – Chain
• SS – Slip Stitch
• SC – Single crochet
• SC Inc – Two single crochet stitches in the same stitch
• SC2tog – Single Crochet two stitches together in the front loop only.
• – Repeat sequence
• FO – Fasten off

Notes
• This pattern uses American crochet terminology
• If you are not familiar with the Magic Ring technique you can simply replace this with 2
Chains and use the second chain from the hook as your magic ring.
I.e. MR 5 = CH 2, in 2nd CH from hook 5 SC.
• This pattern uses an invisible decrease throughout, this is created by decreasing in the
front loops only.

Pattern
Legs (make 2)
Round 1: MR 5

Round 2: *SC Inc (10)

Round 3: *SC 1, SC Inc (15)

Round 4-5: SC around (15)

FO

Body
This is a continuation of the legs. You will join both legs together at round 6 and continue to
create the body.

Round 6 attach a new piece of yarn to leg one.

CH 1 and then 1 SC in the same stitch. SC around remaining 14 stitches of leg one, continue
to SC around 15 stitches of leg 2.

SS to the CH on 1st leg to finish round.

CH and SS do not count as a stitch.

For all other rounds continue to work in a spiral.

Round 7-9: SC around (30)

Sew up the gap between the legs

Round 10: *SC 4, SC2tog around (25)

Round 11: SC around (25)

Round 12: *SC 3, SC2tog (20)


Round 13: SC around (20)

Round 14: *SC 2, SC2tog (15)

Begin to stuff legs and body

Round 15: SC around (15)

FO.

Stuff remainder of body.

Head
Round 1: MR 6

Round 2: Inc around (12)

Round 3: *SC 1, Inc (18)

Round 4: SC 1, *Inc, SC 2 until last stitch, SC 1 (24)

Round 5-6: SC around (24)

Round 7: *SC 3, Inc (30)

Rounds 8-10: SC around (30)

Round 11: *SC 3, SC2tog (24)

Round 12: SC 1, *SC2tog, SC 2 until last stitch 1 SC (18)

Round 13: *SC 4, SC2tog around (15)

FO

Attach eyes between rounds 8 and 9 approx 5-6 stitches apart.

Firmly stuff.
Ears (Make 2)
Round 1: MR 4 (4)

Round 2: SC around (4)

Round 3: *SC Inc (8)

Round 4: SC around (8)

Round 5: *SC 1, SC Inc (12)

Round 6: *SC 2, SC Inc (16)

FO leaving long tail for sewing

Arms (Make 2)
Round 1: MR 4 (4)

Round 2: SC Inc around (8)

Round 3: * SC 1, Inc (12)

Rounds 4-6: SC around (12)

Round 7: * SC 1, SC2tog (8)

FO and leave tail for sewing.

Lightly stuff.

Tail
Round 1: MR (5)

Round 2: SC around (5)


Repeat round 2 until tail measures 3 inches

FO leaving end for sewing to body.

Cut a piece of pipe cleaner to 6 inches and fold in half. Thread through tail in order to be able
to choose tail position.

Assembly
Sew the head the body with eyes facing forward

Sew ears to the head Starting at round 2 to round 8 on each side of the face.

The sew the arms in place just under the head.

Sew the tail to the back of the body and tie a ribbon in a bow around the neck to finish.
