WORM SCRUNCHIE BY CAROL IBBETSON

This scrunchie is relatively easy to make and you can see how it got it’s
name !

It is made to fit around a standard 5cm (2in) circular elastic ponytail

band and can be made using any weight yarn. Tension is not
important but you should use a hook of an appropriate size for the type
of yarn you are using.

YOU WILL NEED

The sample shown was made using:

Approximately 5g of fingering weight variegated sock yarn.
1 x 3mm (US C2/D3, UK11) size crochet hook
Tapestry needle

ABBREVIATIONS

UK terms are used throughout, US terms are listed here for comparison.
BLO back loop only (back half of the ‘V’ on the top of the stitch), ch chain, dc double crochet (US single
crochet), FLO front loop only (front half of the ‘V’ on the top of the stitch), ss slip stitch, st(s) stitch(es)

INSTRUCTIONS

whether you end with 2dc or 1dc in the last st.
Round 3: Ch1, 1dc in BLO of each of the next 2
dc, *ss in BLO of next dc, ch12, 1dc in second ch from hook, work back down the ch with 1dc in each
remaining ch, ss in BLO of next dc on the band, 1dc in BLO of next three dc; repeat from * to the end, ss in
first dc. It does not matter where in the repeat you finish.
Round 4: Ch2, you will now work in the remaining front loops from round 2 as follows: *ss in FLO of next dc
from round 2, ch8, 1dc in second ch from hook, work back down the ch with 1dc in each remaining ch, ss in
FLO of next dc on the band, 1dc in FLO of next three dc from round 2; repeat from * to the end, ss in first dc.
