Syllabus for Online/Classroom Learning

I. COURSE TITLE: GEC 11: UNDERSTANDING THE SELF

II. COURSE CREDIT: 3 UNITS

III. COURSE DESCRIPTION:


This course is designed to equip young college learners in the exploration on the nature of self and its significance, its fundamental philosophical
perspectives including eastern philosophies, its concepts and principles on the different dimensions of the self, the self in the allied sciences as well
as the factors and forces that affect the development and its maintenance to arrive at a better understanding of the whole self. It strives to meet
this goal by stressing the integration of the knowledge and understanding of the whole self in the everyday experiences of the students’ lives -
making them more critical, reflective and better individuals enabling them to manage and improve their lives and attain a better quality of life.

IV. COURSE OUTCOMES:

At the end of the course, the students are expected to:


CO1: Create an individual portfolio that reflects one’s self-discovery, thinking and assessment about their awareness on
their physical, material, emotional, intellectual, digital, sexual and moral self;
CO2: Apply philosophical and social sciences perspectives relating to understanding the self by making a critical analysis
of concepts, statements or situations;
CO3: Apply effectively and appropriately the different dimensions of the self in their day to day living through a
