PowerLink Advantage Version 3.00


Installation Guide
Introduction The installation of PowerLink ™Advantage involves many different
components. Some components have their own installations and require that
you restart the computer after they are complete.
Do not install this software on a computer that has the PowerLink
Advantage Viewer software installed!

Installation The installation process is broken into the following stages:


Process 1) Install CIMPLICITY SQL Server Version 2000
2) Install CIMPLICITY 5.5+
3) Install PowerLink Advantage and configure the CIMPLICITY Alarm
Sound Manager
4) Manually create the PowerLink database (optional)
5) Restore the Sample project
6) Register CIMPLICITY
7) Access the Sample project

Time Complete installation (not including CIMPLICITY registration) takes


approximately 43 minutes.

System Requirements

Requirements To install and run PowerLink Advantage you must have:


• Administrator rights to the PowerLink Advantage computer
• Logged in as LOCAL Administrator of the machine
• Pentium IV 3 GHz (minimum)
• 1GB of RAM (minimum)
• CD ROM drive
• Mouse (minimum two buttons)
• Keyboard
• Speakers (to support audible alarms)
• 17" Monitor (minimum), resolution 1024 x 768, 65535 colors (minimum)
• Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4)
• 400 MB of free disk space for installation (additional space required for
project configuration). A SCSI hard drive is recommended.
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 (included on the CIMPLICITY 5.5+ CD)
• 4 CDs:
− *CIMPLICITY Plant Edition SQL 2000 CD Number 1
Intended for Server operating systems Windows 2000 Server.
− *CIMPLICITY Plant Edition SQL 2000 CD Number 2
Intended for Windows 2000
− CIMPLICITY 5.5+
− PowerLink Advantage Installation

* Only install one SQL server disc.

Stage 1 – Install CIMPLICITY SQL Server

Time This stage of the process takes about 20 minutes.

Pre-Install Before installing PowerLink ensure that:


checklist
• The PowerLink Advantage computer is assigned the name you require for
your project. If you decide to change the computer name after you install
PowerLink, you must uninstall and reinstall CIMPLICITY SQL Server
Version 2000.
• No other applications are running (i.e. real time anti-virus software).
• You are logged in as Local Administrator.

Install type Although your PowerLink package includes two SQL server CDs, only install
the SQL disc designed for your machine's operating system. For more
information see Requirements
This install is based on CIMPLICITY Plant Edition SQL 2000 CD number 2.

Procedure Follow these steps to install CIMPLICITY SQL Server Version 2000.

Step Action
1 Insert the CIMPLICITY Plant Edition SQL 2000 CD Number 2.
2 In the CIMPLICITY SQL Setup dialog box:

Select Install

3 In the Welcome dialog box, click Next.


4 In the Software License Agreement dialog box, click Yes.
5 In the User Information dialog box type in a name and a
company, click Next.

6 In the Setup Type dialog box complete the following:

Note: You can use Browse to change the installation drive.You


must not change the folder name.
6a In the Select Program Files Destination dialog box,
When prompted, select Yes to create a new directory.

Change <drive>

Click OK

Requirement: CIMPLICITY SQL Server Version 2000,


CIMPLICITY 5.5+ and PowerLink Advantage must be installed
on the same drive.

6b In the Setup Type dialog box. complete the following:

8 Click Next in the Check Setup Data dialog box.


Result: The install copies and sets up the appropriate information.
This process takes up to 25 minutes.
9 At the question dialog View Readme Files, click No.
10 In the Setup Complete dialog box, select Yes, I want to restart
my computer now, click Finish.
Recommendation: Once you have completed the MS SQL Server
installation, visit the Microsoft Website to download the latest MS
SQL Server 2000 service pack and/or patches.

Stage 2 – Install CIMPLICITY 5.5+

Time This stage of the installation process takes approximately 10 minutes.

About the HMI This section outlines how to add and change the HMI Server Options in Step
Server Options 7 of the CIMPLICITY 5.5+ installation. This dialog box adds additional
dialog box licensed options to your PowerLink project. When the option box initially
appears, the right hand pane is blank. Making a selection in the left-hand pane
populates the right pane.

Clicking a Component in the left pane displays the associated right pane
options.

2 In the CIMPLICITY HMI Setup dialog box, select Install.
3 In the Welcome dialog box, click Next.
4 In the Software License Agreement dialog box, click Yes.
5 In the CIMPLICITY HMI Product Options:

Select HMI Server

Result: The Choose Destination Location dialog box appears.

6 The Choose Destination Location dialog box lists the destination
directory as C:\GE\CIMPLICITY\HMI. If necessary, change the
<drive>.

Click Browse

Requirement: CIMPLICITY SQL Server Version 2000,


CIMPLICITY 5.5+ and PowerLink Advantage must be installed
on the same drive.
6a In the Choose Directory dialog box, complete the following:
1. Make the required changes

2. Click OK

In the Choose Destination Location click, Next.

7 The HMI Server Options dialog box appears with the following
selections:
• HMI Server Base
• Application Options
• Communications
• System Utilities

For a standard installation, click Next and proceed to Step 8.


7a If your PowerLink Advantage system is licensed for Server
Redundancy or the Pager application, complete the following:
1. Select Application Options

2. Select the Option

Stage 3 – Install PowerLink Advantage

Time This stage of the install takes approximately 13 minutes.

Multi Language During the install, the system locale setting determines the language of the
Support PowerLink Advantage run-time help files. If the run-time help files are not
available in the system locale setting language, the English version is
installed.

Procedure Follow these steps to install PowerLink Advantage.

Step Action
1 Insert the PowerLink Advantage Installation CD.

Note: Before the install program begins the PowerLink Advantage


installation it performs a search to confirm that all of the required
components are installed on the PC, including a Windows 2000
Operating System.
If a Windows 2000 Operating System is not installed on the PC
If the installation program does not find Windows 2000
installation program displays an error message and you cannot
complete the installation.

2 In the Welcome Screen, click Next.


3 In the Software License Agreement dialog box, click Yes.

4 In the Customer Information dialog box, complete the following:

1. Enter a User and Company Name

2. Ensure Anyone who uses this


computer (all users) is selected

Click Next
Note: The User name does not have to match the computer name
or the Name entered in the CIMPLICITY SQL Server install.
5 In the Choose Destination Location dialog box, select the default
or browse for the drive you want to install PowerLink Advantage
on.
The path must read: <drive>:\GE
Click Next.
During the installation process some temporary DOS windows
may appear. Do not close them.
Requirement: CIMPLICITY SQL Server Version 2000,
CIMPLICITY 5.5+ and PowerLink Advantage must be installed
on the same drive.
Result: The install copies and sets up the appropriate information.
This process takes approximately 3 minutes.

6 In the Create Database? dialog box, select OK or Cancel.

If you select… then…


OK the database is created and you do not have to
perform Stage 4 of the installation. PowerLink
assumes it can use the default SQL Server
username and password.
Cancel you must manually create the PowerLink
database and Stage 4 of the installation process
must be completed. You must choose this
option if the default SQL Server username and
password have been modified, or if, for
example, you wish to change the default
location of the database files.
Note: Choosing this option assumes an expert
knowledge of SQL Server 2000.
7 In the Information dialog box, click OK.

9 From the Distributed COM Configuration Properties dialog
box, select GEFScadaDriver.

Select GEFScadaDriver

Click Properties.
9a In the GEFScadaDriver Properties dialog box, click the Identity
tab.

Select The Interactive user

Click OK

In the Distributed COM Configuration Properties dialog box,


click OK.

Time This stage of the process takes approximately 5 minutes.

Procedure Follow these steps to configure the CIMPLICITY Alarm Sound Manager.

Step Action
1 In the Information text box, click OK.

If a login box appears, select Cancel.


Result: The CIMPLICITY Alarm Sound Manager dialog box
appears.

or
The CIMPLICITY Alarm Sound Manager icon appears in
the Taskbar. Click the icon to open CIMPLICITY Alarm Sound
Manager.

2 In CIMPLICITY Alarm Sound Manager's Projects Tab, click
Add.
3 In the Add Project dialog box:

Enter SAMPLE, click OK

Result: The CIMPLICITY Sound Alarm Manager adds the


project name to the Project list.

Note: Once you have created other PowerLink Advantage projects


you can add them to the CIMPLICITY Sound Alarm Manager
using the same method.
4 Click the Startup Tab and complete the following tasks:
1. Ensure the Start at Windows
startup is not selected.

2. Browse for PL_audible.ini in


<drive>\GE\CIMPLICITY\HMI\exe

3. Click Save Profile…


.
Result: The Save As dialog box appears.

Result: The CIMPLICITY Alarm Sound Manager loads


PowerLink Advantage's SAMPLE project profile and its alarm
characteristics.

Continuing If .NET Framework 1.1 is installed on the PowerLink Advantage PC go to


PowerLink Step 14. However, if .NET Framework (Version 1.1) is not installed the .NET
Advantage Framework 1.1 dialog appears and you must complete the following tasks:

13 Once the install is complete a message box displays.

Note: If the PowerLink Advantage computer's regional settings are


set to a language other than English, you may see several dialogs
indicating the installation of .NET Framework language packs.
When prompted, click OK.
If .NET Framework Version 1.1 is installed
14 When the prompt appears, click OK.

15 Restart the PowerLink Advantage computer.

Stage 4 – Manually create the PowerLink database (optional)

Reminder! Completing Stage 4 is only required if you have chosen to manually install
the PowerLink Advantage SQL Server database in Stage 3, Step 7. If you did
not select this option proceed to Stage 5.

About this You have chosen to manually install the PowerLink Advantage SQL Server
Stage database if:
• you are installing the PowerLink database when the default SQL Server
username and password have bee modified
• you want to customize settings, such as the default location of the
database files.
Note: Completion of this stage assumes an expert knowledge of SQL Server
2000.

Procedure Follow these steps to create the PowerLink Advantage SQL Server database.

Step Action
1 Start MS SQL Query Analyzer.
2 Connect to SQL Server Using SQL Server Authorization, Login
Name and Password.
3 Use File Open to open the Powerlink.SQL script located in:
<drive>\GE\CIMPLICITY\PowerLink Data\Backup).
4 Modify the script as required.
5 Execute the query contained within Powerlink.SQL to create the
PowerLink database.
If your MS SQL server instance name is not .\CIMPLICITY …
Change the SQL server name from .\CIMPLICITY to <your MS
SQL server instance name> in both the
<drive>:\GE\CIMPLICITY\hmi\exe\ADOConnectionPri.udl and
ODBC connection configurations accessed through the Windows
Control Panel.

Future You must perform these steps for each new PowerLink project that will run
Configuration on this computer.
Note: To complete these steps you must be familiar with the CIMPLICITY
Workbench.

Procedure To manually create the PowerLink database, complete the following:

1 Use the CIMPLICITY Workbench to open the <project>.
2 Ensure the project is not running.
3 Select the point PL.SYSTEM.PRI_SQL_SERVER.
4 Change the default initialized value from .\CIMPLICITY to <your
primary MS SQL server instance name>.
If you have a redundant project…
5 Select the point PL.SYSTEM.SEC_SQL_SERVER.
6 Change the default initialized value from .\CIMPLICITY to <your
secondary MS SQL server instance name>.
For all projects…
7 Update the configuration.

Stage 5 - Restore the Sample project

Time This stage of the process takes approximately 5 minutes.

What this does For the PowerLink Advantage desktop shortcut to work, you must restore the
PowerLink Advantage Sample project to your computer.

Procedure Follow these steps to restore the project.

Step Action
1 From the Start menu select Programs\GE\PowerLink
Advantage\Configuration Tool.
Result: PACT (PowerLink Advantages Configuration Tool) opens.
2 In the PACT application complete the following:

Select Restore…

Result: The Restore Project to <drive\GE\PACT>dialog box


appears.
3 In the dialog box complete the following: 1.Click the Browse folder

Result: The Select Backup File to Restore dialog box appears.

3a In the dialog box complete the following:

Select Sample.zip

Click Open

4 In the Restore Project to <drive>:\GE\PACT dialog box SAMPLE


is added to the Name field.

Click Restore.

Result: PACT unzips the project and adds it to the directory. Click
OK once the project is successfully restored.
5 Select File | Exit to close PACT.

Stage 6 – Register CIMPLICITY

Time The amount of time to complete this stage depends on the length of time it
takes to receive the System Authorization Code from GE SAS.

The four day After you install the CIMPLICITY software, you have a four-day grace
grace period period to register it. During this time, you have full access to the base system.
If you have not licensed your software at the end of the four days, your
system becomes unlicensed and functionality is restricted.

Registration CIMPLICITY registration is performed in three stages:


Steps
1. The registration process generates a System Key Code (Steps 1-6)
2. Contact GE Fanuc for a System Authorization Code (Step 7)
3. Enter the System Authorization Code in the System Authorization
dialog box (Steps 8 & 9).

Step Action
1 In Start/Programs/GE/PowerLink Advantage click
Result: The CIMPLICITY Registration:Serial Numbers dialog
box appears.
2 In the CIMPLICITY Registration:Instructions dialog box,
complete the following:
1. Select New Registration

2. Click Next

3 In the License Agreement dialog box, click Yes.
4 In the User Information dialog box:

1. Enter the required information

2. Click Next

5 In the CIMPLICITY Registration:Serial Numbers dialog box,


enter the serial number from the CIMPLICITY License Key
certificate found in your PowerLink Advantage package.

1. Enter the supplied Serial no.

2. Click Next

Result: CIMPLICITY Registration:Authorization dialog box


displays contact information and a generated System Key Code.

6 In the CIMPLICITY Registration:Authorization dialog box,
ensure the information is correct, click Next.

Print the Registration

Click Next

7 Contact GE Fanuc to obtain the System Authorization Code.


Note: GE Fanuc contact information is available on the printed
registration you created in Step 6.

8 After receiving the System Authorization Code from GE Fanuc,
complete the following:

1. Enter the supplied System


Authorization Code

2. Click Next

Result: The Setup Complete dialog box appears indicating a


successful CIMPLICITY installation.

1. Select Yes, I want to restart my


computer now

2. Click Next

8 Restart the computer.

End of PowerLink Advantage installation is now complete.

Stage 7 - Access the Sample project

Introduction Once you have installed PowerLink Advantage you can run the Sample
project.

Procedure Complete the following to log in/log out and shutdown the PowerLink
Advantage Sample project.

Step Action
Starting the Sample project

Click the desktop shortcut to start the Sample project.


Logging in to the Sample project
In the PowerLink Advantage Login dialog box complete the
following:

1. Enter ADMINISTRATOR

2. Click Login

If you are logged in to the PowerLink Advantage computer with


the user name ADMINISTRATOR, you are automatically logged
in to the SAMPLE project.
Note: If the dialog box times out without someone logging in,
click the Main Screen button to reopen the login dialog box.
Logging out of the Sample project
1 Click the GE logo button located on the upper left corner of the
PowerLink Advantage screen.

Result: The PowerLink Advantage Options dialog box appears.

2 In the PowerLink Advantage Options dialog box:
1. Click the drop arrow

2. Select Shutdown Server

3. Click OK

3 A confirmation message box appears, click Yes.


Results: The PowerLink Advantage Sample project shuts down.
