Highlights
Exploring the Role of Carbon Capture and Storage

Harnessing Hydrogen, Ammonia and Alternative Fuels

The Strategic Summit amplified the voices of public and private
sector leaders from Asia and beyond. Across a wide range of Investing in Renewable Energy Development
keynotes, policy sessions and panel discussions, attendees have
gained insights into the trends, challenges and opportunities
Driving Interconnectivity for ASEAN’s Power Grid
shaping the energy sector.

Leadership Panel
COP28, 2030, And The New Global Sustainability Policy
Roadmap – Implications, Impact And Opportunities For Asia’s
Energy Transition And Climate Leadership
• Asia’s population comprises 60% of the global population, and a high energy consumption
accounting for over 50% of global energy consumption. This energy usage results in significant
CO2 emissions, estimated to exceed 20 billion tonnes annually.

• Any meaningful progress towards global carbon neutrality hinges heavily on Asia’s proactive
engagement in sustainable practices and emission reduction strategies.

• Energy usage goes beyond borders, and the panel highlighted the importance of coordinated
efforts and shared plans to optimise energy utilisation while minimising environmental impact.

• The panel discussed the evolving dynamics within industries, where competition is gradually
giving way to “co-opetition” – a collaborative approach that combines competition with
cooperation.

Leadership Panel
Gas And LNG As A Cost-Effective Transition Bridge – Meeting
Present To Long-Term Demand For Low Carbon Energy
• Asia’s diverse economies heavily rely on natural gas and LNG, but recent market volatility has
raised concerns about reliability and affordability.

• Regional cooperation, infrastructure investments, and policy frameworks are essential for
resilience.

• There was an emphasis on the enormity of the problem and the need for long-term contracts
to mitigate pricing volatility.

• The panel also highlighted the importance of considering stakeholder preferences in

decarbonisation efforts and the role of price in transitioning from coal to gas.

Southeast Asia is a very critical region for the world

to achieve a successful energy transition. There is
very high political will, which is great in terms of a
top-down approach in trying to mobilise capital,
different business models and policy to work
towards that. Of the ASEAN countries, 11 already
have 2030 and 2050 climate targets in place.

Leadership Panel
Methane Abatement – Asia’s Imperative, Challenge And
Opportunity

• Approximately 40% of Asia’s energy sector methane emissions could be abated at

zero cost, with the benefits outweighing the implementation costs.

• Eliminating methane emissions presents a significant opportunity for the global

energy sector to support net-zero objectives rapidly.

• There is a need for collaboration, resources, and capacity building to address

methane emissions, and to acknowledge the gap between expectations and current
efforts, emphasising the need for appropriate financing and international support for
methane reduction initiatives.

Leadership Panel
Developing The Asian CCUS Ecosystem – Charting The Course
For Carbon Capture Technologies Deployment
• The wider Asia-Pacific region has substantial potential for CCUS deployment, with numerous
emitter companies and potential hubs.

• Challenges to unlocking this potential include exponential growth, unequal access to viable
storage, varying regulatory maturity levels, and the need for cross-border policies and
infrastructure development.

• There are ongoing bilateral agreements in the region concerning CCUS projects, indicating
progress in this field.

• Balanced policies, compliance, technology growth, and affordability are crucial considerations.

The 2025 Strategic Summit will aim to facilitate high-level

dialogues on navigating the dual challenges of energy security
and economic development.

Thailand’s Clean Mobility And Future Roadmap

• Thailand’s journey towards the goal of transforming the mobility

landscape of Southeast Asia and beyond is encapsulated in the
“Thailand Clean Mobility” programme, which is not just a policy
framework, but a call-to-action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
from the transport sector, significantly.

• Thailand aims to be a leader in ASEAN’s mobility transformation,

exemplifying how regional co-operations and technological actions can
yield substantive benefits in tracking global challenges.

• Challenges such as hard risks in infrastructure development, technology

adaptions and public acceptance are prevalent in Thailand, and this
requires innovation, persistence and co-operation.

Southeast Asia’s Evolutionary Drive: Game Changers in Mobility
Transformation
• Last year alone, Southeast Asia had a total sales of 25 million motorbikes – half of which were
by Indonesia, with Vietnam in second place, and Thailand and Philippines coming close.

• SEA has a fast growing economy but what is unique is the socio-economic infrastructure
and also the urban-rural populations. Are there enough efforts for all populations or is there a
biased focus on the cities only?

• Government incentives and the process of phasing out old vehicles should be made available
not just for the OEMs, but for the entire mobility value chain.

• The amount of data that is being associated with cars or batteries that we are making is
massive. There is a need for new technologies to grab these data by associating it with
products that are still designed in an old-school way.
