Introduction 2

 After faith, the second important requirement of religion is


purification of morals

 This means that a person should cleanse his attitude both


towards his creator and towards his fellow human beings.

 This is what is termed as a righteous deed

 Faith and righteous deeds lead to paradise


‫‪3‬‬

‫و ََ َم ْن يَأْ ِت ِه ُم ْؤ ِمن ًا قَ ْد َ َِع َل الصا ِل َح ِ‬


‫ات فَأُ ْولَ ِئ َك لَه ُْم‬
‫ات الْ ُعال (‪َ )75‬جن ُ‬
‫ات عَ ْد ٍن َ َْت ِري ِم ْن َ َْت ِِتَا ا َأل ْنَ ُار‬ ‫ادل َر َج ُ‬
‫َخ ِ ِادل َين ِفهيَا َو َذ ِ َِل َج َزا ُء َم ْن تَ َزَّ (‪)76‬‬

And he who comes before Him as a
believer having done righteous deeds,
exalted ranks are for such people,
evergreen gardens beneath which streams
flow and they shall abide therein forever.
This shall be the reward of those who
purify themselves. (20:75-76)

Fundamental Questions:

 What is the means through which a person can know


what good and evil is?

 What is the real motive which impels a person to purify


his morals?

 What is the objective of this effort?


‫‪7‬‬

‫َون َ ْف ٍس و َما َس ّٰوهىَا ۝۽فَ َالْهَ َمهَا فُ ُُ ْو َر ََا َوتَ ْْ ّٰوهىَا ۝‬

‫اب َم ْن َد ّٰسـهىَا ‪ۭ 10‬‬


‫۝‬ ‫ّٰ‬
‫قَ ْد َافْلَ َح َم ْن َزكهىَا ۝ َ۽وقَ ْد َخ َ‬
‫۽‬

And the soul bears witness and the


perfection given to it, then [God] inspired
it with its evil and its good that he
succeeded who purified it and he failed
who corrupted it. (91:7-10)
‫‪9‬‬

‫ْار ِج ِعي ا ََل َ ِرب ِك َرا ِض َي ًة َم ْر ِضي ًة (‪ )28‬فَا ْدخ ُِِل ِِف ِع َبا ِدي (‪)29‬‬

‫َوا ْدخ ُِِل َجن ِِت (‪)30‬‬

O you whose heart remained content [with his


Lord in times of comfort and distress]! Return
unto your Lord, such that He is pleased with you
and you are pleased with Him. [Return] and enter
among My servants and enter My Paradise.
(89:27-30)

‫اَّلل يَأ ُ ُ ِ َ ِ َ ِ ْ َ ِ‬ ‫ب‬ ‫ر‬ ‫م‬ ‫ِإ َّن َّ َ‬
‫ون (‪)90‬‬ ‫َاء َو ْال ُمن َك ِر َو ْالبَ ْغي ِ يَ ِع ُ‬
‫ظ ُك ْم لَعَلَّ ُك ْم ت َذَ َّك ُر َ‬ ‫ع ْن ْالفَ ْحش ِ‬ ‫َ‬

God enjoins you to justice, goodness and


spending on the kindred, and forbids
lewdness, evil and arrogance. He
admonishes you so that you may take heed.
(16:90)

Tell them: “My Lord has forbidden all lewd


acts – whether hidden or open – and evil and
wrongful rebelliousness.” (7:33)

‫ات َوالْ ُم ْؤ ِم ِن َني َوالْ ُم ْؤ ِمنَ ِ‬
‫ات َوالْ ُم َت َص ِد ِق َني َوالْ ُم َت َص ِدقَ ِ‬ ‫ات َوالصا ِب ِر َين َوالصا ِب َر ِات َوالْ َخ ِاش ِع َني َوالْ َخ ِاش َع ِ‬ ‫ِ‬

‫اَّلل َك ِثري ًا َواذلا ِك َر ِات‬
‫ات َواذلا ِك ِر َين َ‬ ‫وج ْم َوالْ َحا ِف َظ ِ‬
‫ات َوالْ َحا ِف ِظ َني فُ ُر َ ُ‬ ‫َوالصائِ ِم َني َوالصائِ َم ِ‬
‫اَّلل لَه ُْم َم ْغ ِف َر ًة َو َأ ْجر ًا َع ِظاميً (‪)35‬‬ ‫َأعَد ُ‬

Men and women who are Muslims, are true


believers, serve God diligently, are sincere,
patient, humble themselves before God, spend in
charity, who fast and guard their private parts
and remember God in abundance – on them God
will bestow forgiveness and has prepared for
them a great reward. (33:35)
