CONTROL SYSTEM
DESCRIPTION
1.1 Concept
Control system is based on control desks located in control room and filtration building.
Furthermore all devices can be controlled from MCCs and Local Panels.
Status of all devices such as pumps, valves and instruments will be monitored in mimic,
control desks and also MCC panels.
Local level: to detect and transmit primary data to the upper level, and execute
orders coming from the upper level by acting on the process.
MCC Panel: Each part of plant has a MCC panel by which all related indications and
commands can be formed.
Monitoring and control level: where all the data are received from the lower level,
processed and if necessary used to generate automatic orders for action on the
process. Also the data are monitored, recorded, visualized, and can be analyzed
and reported as necessary.
The highest priority is local panel. After that MCC panel has the second place. At last the
lowest priority is for Control Desk.
Designer:
Client:
Each device such as pumps, valves, blowers, etc has its own local panel by which it can
be turn on and off locally. Basic statuses like on, off and fault will be shown in local panel.
There is a selector switch in local panel called local/remote selector switch by which
control can be passed to MCC panel.
As said before, devices can also be controlled and monitored in MCC panels. Each
process unit has a MCC panel. Devices of each unit will be controlled and monitored via
MCC panels. There is a selector switch in MCC panel called local/remote selector switch by
which control can be passed to control room and desks.
All devices can also be controlled and monitored from control room and desks. Two set
of desks will be considered for this water treatment plant. First set of control desks will be
R1 located in filtration building, near each filter. Each filter has its own control desk.
Indication and control of filter valve and backwash pumps and blowers is possible via filter
control desk. There is a small mimic in each desk which monitors status of valves and
operation mode of filter.
There is another control desk in control room. This desk equipped with a large mimic
which show status of all part of water treatment plant. There are also some push buttons
on desk which will be used for control different devices. Detail information about control
desks will be discussed later.

Instruments:
There are two analyzers for measuring pH and Turbidity in suction well. The associated
R1
values will be indicated locally and in control room.
There is also flowmeter in main line of Low Lift Pumps which measure inlet flow to
water treatment plant. Flow will be shown locally and in control room. This flowmeter is
R1 equipped with totalizer. The flow also will be recorded in control room.
There are two float level switches in suction well in order to show high and low limit of
level in suction well.
Each low lift pumps has a pressure gauge installed on discharge line.

3.3 Filters
Each filter has some valves such as inlet valve, outlet valve, backwash valve etc. they
can be controlled just from filter desk. But the status of them will be indicated in filter
R1
desk and control room. In order to control backwash sequence, each filter is equipped
with a smart relay which controls backwash timing.
Instruments:
There is a level switch for each filter. The level alarm will be shown in filter desk and
control room.

In order to control line pressure, each line has either surge tank or hyrdophore tank.
Instruments:
There is a flowmeter in main line of each High Lift Main Line. These flowmeters are
equipped with totalizer. The flow value will be recorded in control room.
Each high lift pump has a pressure gauge installed on discharge line.
Each hydrophore or surge tank has a side glass level indicator and four level switches.
At the outlet line of each High Lift Main Line there is a pressure transmitter.
