Computers Usage
The greatest benefit of using computers from an early age is that it plays a crucial role for child’s
development. The world is changing so rapidly that everything is now computer operated. Since
children are curious to learn new things by exposing them to computer technology from the
beginning, they will learn it more quickly resulting in a more creative, confident and independent
individual. Another advantage is that this skill is beneficial for the child’s academic and professional
growth. When children are aware of how to use the computer appropriately, they can access to the
wide range of knowledge and resources available online and use it for their study purpose. They can
study independently and complete their assignments in order to achieve good grades. Also,
companies prefer those candidates who are computer literate and their progression to a higher level
is entirely based on their academic background and computer proficiency.
Despite the above positives, unarguably using computers for longer hours has many negative
consequences. One significant drawback is that it puts the child at risk in terms of physical and social
development. Studies have proven that young people need physical activity and regular interaction
in order to be healthy and productive members of the society. But because of their excessive usage
they are becoming addicted to the technology. They are so immersed that they are rarely concerned
about the people and matters happening around them resulting in a drop in their social interaction
and participation in any physical workout. Another disadvantage is the violent behaviour young
people are developing. This is because mostly children are using computers for playing video games
and browsing the internet. Unfortunately, most of these games are intense and violent where the
player is the hero of the game and that teaches them to be inconsiderate and self- centred.
To conclude, while early exposure plays an indispensable role in young people creative development,
social isolation and behavioural issues are the drawbacks that cannot be denied. Therefore, in my
opinion, children should be taught from an early age but continuously monitored to use it
appropriately to avoid the negative outcomes.
