History
The First Digital Gas Insulated Switchgear Substation with Online Monitoring System in Thailand.

PEA Pattaya Tai3 is the first digital substation with an online monitoring system that was developed by the Provincial
Electricity Authority of Thailand (PEA) and Hitachi Energy in Pattaya city, one of the most popular tourist destinations in
the country under the contract TDDP1 – PYW/2564. The smart grid system uses digital technologies to enhance the
reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of electricity supply in the city, as well as to support the integration of renewable
energy sources and the electrification of transportation. The plan is part of PEA’s vision to become a world-class utility
that provides quality services to customers and contributes to the social and economic development of Thailand.

PEA is responsible for distributing electricity to more than 19 million customers across 74 provinces in Thailand. The
smart grid system that PEA developed in this substation uses digital technologies such as advanced metering
infrastructure, distribution automation, and demand response to optimize the operation and management of substation
assets according to IEC61850 standard. These technologies will enable real-time monitoring, automate the operation
and protection of the distribution network and advance maintenance planning, which will make the energy system
more sustainable, flexible and secure.

The plan is also considered as the first step and foundation of PEA to achieve its target of becoming “PEA Digital
Utility” a leading electricity business that meets the expectations of customers and society by using digital technology.

Key features and advantages of CoreSense Reliable design

Hydrogen & Moisture Sensor Solid state in situ moisture sensor
- Direct reading of moisture in oil
– Sensor measures capacitance using the transformer oil as a - Capable of withstanding vacuum and overpressure
dielectric fluid - Never requires maintenance or calibration
– Any water mixed into the oil will change the dielectric constant of the - Readings are insensitive to temperature variations
oil resulting in a capacitance change
– The sensor also measures the temperature Solid state in situ hydrogen sensor
– The amount of dissolved water in 𝜇l/l (ppm) is a function of the oil - No gas separation membrane
type, the temperature and the relative saturation of the oil. The relative - Capable of withstanding vacuum and overpressure
saturation can be determined from the capacitance. - Never requires maintenance or calibration
- Reading are insensitive to other gases or temperature variations

Forced Convection
- Avoid stagnant oil and allow more representative sampling
- No need for a mechanical pump and associated maintenance
- Enables an extension from the tank up to 40 cm
