Design of shear wall :

1-Design of Wall P23 at story (10 to 11):

Classification of wall :

- Le/h = 5.83/0.3 = 19.433 → selender wall

- also the selenderness ratio doesn’t exceed their limitation.
clause (3.9.7.2) BS 8110-1

-We design for critical case :

N = 6345.3 KN Mi =140.5 KN.m Mo = 153.79 KN.m

Vi = 95.812 KN Vo = 244.66 KN
-For (the critical case):

From Reinforcement concrete , by T.J.MacGINLY P319:

-Design of the outer zone :

Assume the outer zone have length = 600 mm

Le = 6.33 – 0.6 = 5.73 m

The force to resist the moment = Mi/Le =140.5 /5.73 =24.52 KN

The total axial force for each zone = 6345.3/2 +24.52 =3197.2 KN

Use for link diameter= 12mm , cover=25 mm

effective depth= 600-25-12-25/2 = 550.5 mm

d/h =0.9175
Mo/B*h2 =153.79*106/3002*600=2.848
N/B*h =3197.2/300*600 = 17.7
( From BS8110-3 ) using chart with fcu =30 and d/h = 0.9
We found that 100As/B*h =2.65
As = 2.65*600*300/100 = 4770 mm2 → in ETABS As= 4098mm2
Difference = 14%

Use diameter = 25 mm
No. bars = 3600/(π*0.25*(25)2) = 7.33
Use 8 bars
Provide 8 T25 for each zone
-Design of the inner zone :

-For the inner zone a minimum area of reinforcement will be provide

From BS8110 , TABLE 3.25:

ASMIN = 0.4% of the cross section area = 0.4*5130*300/100 = 6156

mm2

on the 2 faces , for each face As =6156/2 = 3078 mm2

For 1 m width , As = 3078/5.13 = 600

mm2 No of bars = 600/201 = 3T16

Spacings = 1000/3 = 333.3 mm

So provide T16@300 mm c/c at each face.

Design for shear :

Vi = 95.879 KN

Vo = 244.66 KN

From S.S Ray P380 :

No shear reinforcement is necessary if the following equation is

satisfied :
𝑣𝑖 𝑣𝑜
+ ≤1
𝑣𝑐𝑖 𝑣𝑐𝑜

Where : vci and vco are the shear strengths for the wall in the in-plane
and out of plane direction respectively.

-Shear check for the out of plane shear :

VO = 244.66 KN

For 1 meter width , VO = 244.66/6.33 = 38.65 KN

per meter Shear stress , vO = VO/b*do

do = effective depth = 300 – 25 – 12– 25/2 =250.5

mm b = 1 m

⸫ vo = (38.65*103)/(1000*250.5) = 0.154 N/mm2

1 1 1
0.79 100𝐴𝑠 3 400 4 𝑓cu 3
vco = ∗( ) ∗( ) ∗( )
1.25 𝑑𝑖∗ℎ 𝑑 25

As = 0.4*300*6330/100 = 7596 mm2

For one face , As = 3798 mm2 , or 600 mm2/m
100As/b*do = 100*600/(1000*250.5) = 0.239

400/do = 400/250.5 = 1.597

vco = 0.468 N/mm2 > vo ➔ O.K , No shear reinforcement is required

for the out of plane shear.

-Shear check for the in-plane shear :

Vi = 95.812 KN

Shear stress , vi = Vi/hw*di

hw = shear wall thickness = 300 mm

di = effective depth = 0.8*L = 0.8*6330 = 5064 mm (From S.S Ray P379)

⸫ vi = (95.812*103)/(300*5064) = 0.063 N/mm2 < 0.8(fcu)0.5 ➔ O.K

From BS8110-1 , Table 3.8 :

For 100As/bd ≤ 0.15 & d ≥ 400 mm➔vci = 0.34 N/mm2 > vi ➔

O.K

No shear reinforcement is required for the in- plane shear

But according to BS8110-1 clause (3.12.7.4) we must use minimum

horizontal reinforcement :

AS(min) = 0.25% for fy =460 N/mm2

AS = 0.0025*1000*300 = 750 mm2

For one face = 375 mm2

Use diameter (12) for link

No.bars = 375/113.097 = 3.3

Spacing = 1000/3.316= 301.6 mm

Spacing= 300 mm

Provide 4T12 @ 300 mm C/C

( Vi/Vci+Vo/Vco )

(0.063/0.34+0.154/0.468) = 0.513 < 1 ok
