ISLAMIC SYSTEM OF MORALITY

Islam is a complete code of life; it is not only a religious belief of Muslims but also
a source of rules for their social life. Islam praises the good and condemns the bad and
also gives rewards and punishments. Apart from the fear of punishment and hell,
material punishments have also been prescribed to prevent injustice and cruelty.
THE BASIS OF MORALITY:
Islam's laws and system of ethics are based on God's commands. Islamic
morality begins with worshiping none but Allah. In Islam, discrimination on the basis of
race, color, language, etc. was abolished and the standard of superiority was declared
to be piety. Quran says:
“Verily the noblest of you in the sight of Allah is the most God-fearing of you (13:49)”
There are about twelve different commands from the verses of Surah “Al-Asraa”
of the Holy Quran, their summary is as follows:
Not to worship anyone but Allah, to be kind to parents, to take care of the rights
of relatives, travelers and the needy, not to be extravagant, adopting a moderate
attitude, not killing children for fear of poverty, avoiding adultery, not taking possession
of orphan's property, fulfilling one's promises, not walking stiffly on the ground, etc.
These injunctions cover almost all moral attributes and must be followed by a
Muslim.
THE FAULT AND ITS EXPIATION:

There are two types of sins, one is those that are committed against the rights of
Allah and the other is those that are committed in the form of violating the rights of the
people. Violation of Allah's order means negligence in worship and orders, etc., to
remedy this, a person can sincerely seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty. While it is
necessary to seek forgiveness from the affected person for not paying the rights of the
people, unless the affected person forgives, Allah will not forgive.
Showing compassion and forgiveness to others is a very good quality. Quran
says:
“Those who give in good times and in bad, suppress their rage and pardon other
people. God loves those who do good (3:134)”
Forgiveness was considered good, but revenge is also allowed. As it is said in
Quran:
“There is no blame on those who enforce justice after being wronged”
THE INJUNCTIONS:
The Qur'an calls Muslims the best “Ummah”. This honor was given because they
believe in one God, encourage good and forbid evil. However, there are also injunctions
against specific vices and clearly prescribed public punishments.
In the sermon on the occasion of Hajj al- Widaa, the Holy Prophet (PBUH)
declared that you are prohibited from taking each other's property and honor, And from
killing someone. In fact, murder, bodily harm and fornication are three major crimes in
Islamic law and their punishment has been determined by Allah. Punishment for
harming someone is retribution, i.e. life for life, eye for eye, etc.
Islam has taken precautionary measures to prevent adultery and fornication etc.
For example, discouraging mixed congregations and encouraging women to cover their
faces when leaving the house and talking to strangers. In Islam, the punishment for
slandering a woman's honor is also prescribed, while there are orders to prohibit alcohol
and drugs and other things. Quran says:
“O believers! Intoxicants, gambling, idols, and drawing lots for decisions1 are all
evil of Satan’s handiwork. So shun them so you may be successful. (5:90)”
During the reign of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), the punishment for drinking
alcohol was forty lashes, but during the reign of Hazrat Umar (R. A), this punishment
was reduced to 80 lashes. The Prophet (PBUH) established a strict system to prevent
corruption in government administration. He (PBUH) said:
“Both the bribe taker and the giver are in hell”
He (PBUH) said for the reformation of the ummah:
“Do not speak evil of time, thus you abuse Allah (May Allah protect us from that),
because the coming and going of night and day is from Allah.”
Islam strives to bring about consistent good behavior in every sphere of human
life at the individual and collective level, but the responsibility will always be applied to
the individual. Quran says:
“Allah does not lay a responsibility on anyone beyond his capacity. In his favor
shall be whatever good each one does, and against him whatever evil he does.
(2:286)”
The teachings of Islam regarding social behavior and general treatment of people
are very clear.
“The best of you is the one who does good to others (2:286)”
CONCLUSION:
It is clear from these commandments of Allah and the teachings of the Holy
Prophet (PBUH) that Islam provides complete moral guidance to its followers. Orders
have been given in this regard which must be followed. In the form of obedience, honor
and ease in this world and Paradise in the Hereafter are promised. While in case of
disobedience, a warning of hell in the hereafter has been given along with punishment
in this world.
