Report on Chesterfield
Chesterfield Vs Ebbsfleet United
National League
Weather: Dry
Referee: S.Morland
- Grigg, Jacobs, Mandeville, Naylor,
Horton and Palmer all come into
starting 11 for Chesterfield.
- Grigg has 19 goals this season.
- Mandeville is the top assist maker in
the league with 11 so far.
- Naylor has 8 goals and 4 assists from
midfield.
- Dobra has 9 goals and 5 assists.
- Jacobs has 6 assists.
- Chesterfield are very good at pressing high up the pitch and winning
the ball back quickly.
- Both full backs are very eager to press high and also get involved in
attacking moves Jeff King (20) is especially good at this. During this
game he attempted 12 dribbles and completed 9. He also put 7 crosses
into the box
- Horton (3) is also keen to get forward and he provided 6 crosses into
the box during this game.
- Grimes (5) is brilliant in the air and won 7 out of 7 Aerial duels.
- Chesterfield have players in midfield who are comfortable playing 1 and
2 touch football and use this technique to play the ball from the
defensive line up to Grigg regularly and with a high degree of success.
- Grigg is a very good finisher and he had 4 shots in this game all were
on target and all were from different positions and angles.
WEAKNESSES
- Chesterfield like to press high continually during the game and this
leaves the 2 CBs exposed due to the full backs pressing high and
Ebbsfleets first goal exposed this weakness after 45 seconds.
- Central Defender Williams was targeted during this game he was
regularly out of position and only won 3 of 10 tackles and gave
possession away 6 times.
- Horton and King, although they get forward well the final ball into the
box is very inaccurate and out of the 13 combined crosses they
supplied only 1 was accurate.
- The willingness to press all game leaves Chesterfield visibly tired
around the 70 minute mark and Ebbsfleet came into the game more
when this drop off in effort was occurring.
- The midfield and central defenders do not like to be ran at directly, they
struggled in the second half when Ebbsfleet’s substitutes dribbled with
the ball.
Jeff King heatmap - Shows his attacking intent but also the gaps that
he leaves behind him.
Branden Horton heatmap - Shows how like King he presses forwards
but leaves gaps behind him.
Attacking Play
- Chesterfield attack with a mix of direct play, measured build up play and fast
passes through all parts of the pitch.
- They keep their shape well and move across and up the pitch in formation.
- The Goalkeeper goes short when Chesterfield feel they are in control of the
game but he goes long quickly for counter attacks and if Chesterfield are
chasing a goal.
- Dobra and Mandeville are skillful players who use both feet well and can
change flanks, they are comfortable cutting inside also.
- Oldaker and Naylor line up as DM but play more box to box. They are very
insync with each other and can play the ball through the 3rds or hit a long ball
accurately.
- Jacobs is a very hardworking AM who can pass accurately both short and
long, he also like to look for a through ball,he tried this 4 times successfully.
- Grigg drops deep and allows Dobra,Mandeville and Jacobs to run past him.
Defensive Play
- Chesterfield like to defend from the front quickly and aggressively. There is
no specific trigger point for the press, as soon as the ball is in play they
press.
- Grimes is key at the back, his aerial ability is impressive and he like to press
the attackers quickly and aggressively.
- Oldaker and Naylor move across the pitch constantly and take turns to drop
into defensive when under pressure.
- The wide players will get back and defend and tuck in when necessary.
- Chesterfield will not hesitate to play the ball long out of defence if under
pressure.
