Kama was the son of Kunti, mother of the five Pandava princes, and the Sun God, Surya. He was as much
a prince as any of the other five brothers. However, he never knew his true lineage. He was brought up as a
commoner by a simple charioteer, and was often humiliated. Teachers refused to teach him, and his equals
shunned him. He never received any honour despite his valour. Yet, he did not lose heart.
Eventually, when Kama discovered his royal ancestry, he could not but disown it. Duryodhana, the eldest
Kaurava prince who shared an intense rivalry with the Pandava brothers, alone befriended him and offered
him kingship. For this act of kindness he remained loyal to Duryodhana until the very end.
