Check your Understanding:

Answer the following Questions: (10 pts.)

1. Why is planning important in an outdoor recreational activity?

- There appear to be numerous crucial aspects to consider while planning an outdoor leisure
activity. Because you should be prepared for any eventuality, you should prepare basic
survival kits ahead of time. Before going for their destination, travelers should go over what will
happen and what they need do. Families must be aware of their surroundings and keep a tight
eye on their children at all times.

2. What should one do when faced with a medical emergency situation?

- Learn to be as calm as possible in the event of a medical emergency. Inquire for help—an
emergency line is accessible (911). If you're in an area where you won't be able to get a
signal, look for anything that might be useful. Rather than attempting to heal broken limbs,
grab a strong piece of wood and place it next to the injury, covering it in a strip of cloth. Always
be wary, for only the well-informed survive.

Enrichment:
Activity 1.
What are the 6 important things to consider/include in pre-planning an outdoor recreation activity?
Explain each important detail. (30 pts.)
The 6 important things to consider/include in pre-planning an outdoor recreation activity are
the following:

- Budget. Budgeting for outdoor recreation provides better performance and is more cost-
effective. Given a list of all the necessary things and the financial means, a group can freely
and openly purchase the items required. Outdoor activities involve the use of this item.

- First aid. Medical assistance is typically needed amid cases of medical problems, specifically
when the location is rural. For the time being, emergency aid enables anybody to rescue an
accident victim. It can also help in cases where calamities strike without warning.

- Site Plan. The most important thing is to ensure one's safety. Knowing what surrounds the
location makes it easy to get around and feel comfortable, especially if children are
accompanying you.

- Route Plan. It might be tough to know where to go in a strange land. A route plan can save
the lives of a person or a group of individuals by ensuring that the route that surrounds the
location is clear.

- Evacuation Plan. Tragedies can happen at any time and in any location. A group or person
might use an emergency plan to locate a secure place. But, that isn't always the case. In
addition to a site plan, campers must carry a list of emergency hotlines.

- Safety and Management Risk Plan. Safety and Management Risk Plan assures campers to
be safe while having their outdoor activities. Campers should make sure that the staff and
coordinators are well aware of everyone’s safety.

- Logistics. Permission is indeed necessary at schools or any private government social

event. That way, if an accident occurs, the school or group will be prepared to assist.

Activity 2.
Administering First Aid (20 pts.)
Scenario: You and your two other friends were hiking and along the trail you saw a man who
was unconscious, with blood oozing from his head. How should you deal with the
situation?

a. What is the first thing that you should do?

- The first thing I'd do is query the victim's identity. I'd try to wake someone up, but if they're still
sleeping, I'd listen for a heartbeat. Start CPR right away if the person isn't responding. After
that, elevate the person's head with a piece of cloth and ask a friend to call an emergency
hotline with the location's address for assistance.
