Work Sequence
1 All operatives to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment. Minimum six points of PPE:-
1. Hi Vis long sleeved jacket (Class 3)
2. Hi Vis Trousers
3. Hard Hat
4. Safety lace up boots – No Rigger boots
5. Suitable Gloves
6. Eye protection
2 Additional / alternative PPE to be worn dependant on operation and site specific risk assessment:-
Chainsaw – Type C Class 1 Chainsaw trousers, Class 1 chainsaw boots, Chainsaw spec helmet
combination including ear & face protection, Chainsaw gloves class 0
Brush-cutter – Multi protect hedge trimmer trousers type A, Class 1 chainsaw boots, Chipper spec
helmet combination including ear & face protection, Chainsaw gloves class 1
Safety harness as required
Life jackets as required
3 Carry out a 5 minute briefing prior to leaving for site and ensure that all documentation required for the
day’s activities are contained within the job pack
4 Upon arrival at site carry out a site specific risk assessment (SSRA). Amend the SSRA as required during the
day’s activities
In particular check for overhead cables
If appropriate consider water levels and flow

Work Sequence
5 Set up appropriate Traffic management in accordance with Safety at Street Works and Road Works
A Code of Practice (Red Book) or Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual as appropriate.
6 Prior to commencing any work, ensure that all equipment to be used is free from defects and pre-use
records have been completed.
8 Only trained and competent personnel shall operate chainsaws, chipper and mobile platform equipment or
use safety harness life jackets.
9 Banks and revetments can be uneven and slippery, ensure secure footing and vigilance whilst carrying out
work.
10 Ensure that chain saws, pole saws and other cutting equipment is used only on a stable base to minimise
the risk of slipping and injury.
11 Use mobile platform, if necessary and Pole-Saws in difficult to reach areas.
12 Vehicle and petrol hand tool emissions should be controlled by ensuring that they are only used
when necessary and that engines are switched off when not in use. Ensure they are maintained and
visually inspected for defects before use, and this is recorded.
13 Petrol hand tools and chipper should be operated for minimum periods only to limit noise emissions,
especially if close to occupied property.
14 Cut scrub using brush cutter to between 50 and 100mm above ground level. Clear/consolidate debris and
cuttings as work progresses to ensure secure footing and forward visibility of banks and wingwalls.
15 Cut tree branches into manageable sizes, load excess chippings, gorse and broom cuttings and tree
branches into vehicle for removal.

16 Load excess chippings, gorse and broom cuttings and tree branches into vehicle for removal.
17 Collect all site waste, including packaging and other debris, and take to a Ringway Jacob depot. Place waste
material in the appropriate skip(s).
18 Check site is free from all working materials and equipment, the site is clear from debris and before removal
of the traffic management.
19 Record details of work on Daily Work Record and pass to Supervisor.
