Symptomatology, Diagnosis & Pathology 2

DESCRIPTION A one year unit of study which builds on the skills and knowledge learnt in
Symptomatology, Diagnosis and Pathology 1 to further develop understanding of
pathological processes, physical examination and diseases in each body system.

Self Directed Learning
Components of this unit require self directed study where students will perform research
and or set tasks followed by reviews promoting learning, engagement, debate and
group discussion.

LEARNING By the conclusion of the unit of study, students should be able to:
OUTCOMES 1. Outline the nature of psychiatric disorders.
2. Describe disease processes for specific paediatric diseases.
3. Identify physical, psychological and emotional symptoms of disease processes
in children.
4. Outline the role of investigation in paediatric diagnosis.
5. Outline the process for assessing common paediatric diagnosis.
6. Determine the rationale for treatment from the pathological changes occurring in
paediatric disease.
7. Describe issues related to drug and alcohol use.
8. Identify common physical and psychological problems associated with ageing
9. Describe disease processes associated with Environmental pathology
10. Describe disease processes relating to specific Nutritional disorders
11. Define the relationship between the disease process and Microbiology
