Positive influence of the media

There are two ways in which the media influences, positive and negative. ... It is a matter of pointing out that the maturation of the
receiver also intervenes in the influence of the media . The influence is much greater on children and adolescents than on adults.

MEDIA AND ITS INFLUENCE ON SOCIETY

INTRODUCTION
In recent years it has been seen that the media have a great influence on society, creating types of behavior
that influence the way people act or think.
Although we know that the media are great creators of stereotypes and drivers of consumerism, it is up to the public that receives the
information not to be influenced by them.

The media are tools that allow us to keep everyone informed of what is happening at a national and international level. These are
channels that give us information, news and images about the world in which we live. In modern societies, which need to be in
constant contact and aware of everything that happens, the media are essential. It is believed that we could not live the same way we
do without the media.

The media are a powerful instrument of socialization, even more powerful than the family, school or work because they shape
feelings and beliefs, train the senses and help form the social imagination. Currently we are immersed in the media from children to
adults, and unfortunately it is not always a good habit, since many people do not use them but are negatively influenced by them.

TYPES OF COMMUNICATION MEDIA

There are two types of communication media: visual and auditory and these can be united or related.
1. Audiovisual media are those that rely on images and sounds to express a message. Within this group is television . Nowadays it is
a mass medium due to its speed, the amount of resources it uses (images, sounds, people) and above all, because of the possibility it
offers the public to see the events and their protagonists without having to be present. In addition, it is a not very expensive means that
most people have within their reach. It has a wide variety of information formats such as interviews , reports , scientific, cultural
programs , news , etc.
Digital media , also called “ new media” , are the most used currently. They are usually accessed through the Internet. The speed and
creativity they use to communicate make these media a very attractive tool full of resources, which means they have more consumers
every day. At the production level, they do not require a lot of money or many people to be produced, since only one person with
sufficient knowledge about how to take advantage of the resources available on the network is enough to get them started. Its variety
is infinite and unlimited, which means that, every day, a large number of people lean towards these media to create, express, design,
inform and communicate.
Visual media are magazines , newspapers , brochures , books and in general, all printed paper publications that aim to inform or
entertain. They are the least used medium by the public in our country. But despite this, some types of media, such as newspapers, are
highly influential in society, because in addition to having more complete, elaborate and reliable information due to their production
process, they contain analyzes prepared by influential and well-known people. who like lyrics to express themselves because they
consider them more faithful and transparent, since it is often said and thought that television does not show reality as it is.
2. Auditory media : radio is the medium that constitutes this group. Its importance lies in the fact that it is perhaps the medium that
most quickly obtains information.
HOW THEY AFFECT SOCIETY
The rapid advancement of communication and information systems causes man to feel attracted to them. They allow us to develop
new forms and supports to transmit, create ideas and thoughts oriented, in most cases, to coming into contact with other individuals.

At this time, both information and communication have become an essential asset for everyone, as they will allow us to build
knowledge and develop teaching-learning experiences that improve our understanding of the environment. Unquestionably, modern
society of the 21st century is linked to the media.

And today's children enjoy watching their favorite characters play or run on television much more than doing the activities themselves
or enjoying the outdoors. It is not only children who find themselves in this situation but also adults. But lately voices have been heard
stating that television affects mentally and morally those who spend a lot of time in front of it.

There are two ways in which the media influences, positive and negative.

The negative way in which the media influences, it could be said, is the violence that they project, causing serious prejudices in
viewers, especially in children and adolescents, which leads them to engage in violent behavior.
Today we know that exposure to violent scenes does not affect everyone equally, nor does it always affect in the same sense and
direction. The most affected are those who lack a sense of desertion to identify the good from the bad.
And from this perspective, the number of violent acts shown on television programs are so numerous that they can perfectly create
aggressive behavior in the recipients.

With these worrying data, we now have to ask ourselves the question: does the violence presented by the media influence the real
violence shown by children and adolescents? It is true that there are behaviors that children and adolescents tend to reproduce after
having observed them in movies or television programs.
And surely we all remember or conclude that there are real-world behaviors that may have found strong inspiration in social media,
especially audiovisual media and informational games.

But the effects of any media are not only in one direction, but the result we obtain with them depends on a series of variables, ranging
from the close social and cultural environment where the individual develops, his or her training, colleagues, cultural media with
those that interact and others.

It is a matter of pointing out that the maturation of the receiver also intervenes in the influence of the media. The influence is much
greater on children and adolescents than on adults.

THE MEDIA AND THE FAMILY

Doctors, pediatricians, psychologists and sociologists consider it worrying that when parents and children meet at night, the media
prevents the personal relationships essential for the well-being of the family. The very reasons for being of the home seem to fade
around the media. It seems that these, when turned on, dominate family life.

Television tends to exclude any other activity: manual activities, conversations, regular running times, walks, hobbies...

Spectators have the tendency to consume more and more and worse. The being is isolated, each one is immersed in the media in their
corner, parents and children, each one in their room doing different activities.

As for the family, in addition to avoiding exposure, or overexposure, to violent content, the measures should not be through
censorship, but rather through observation , discussion and analysis of the programs .
We must observe the way in which children and young people today are so affected by this situation, since development in their
families is not like before. Many parents, who due to their work fatigue, or financial or physical limitations in finding other activities
for their children, have no choice but to watch television programming and, despite their reservations, place their children in front of it
while they do homework. housework or are absent to work. Television, in addition to being an easy option for parents, does not imply
an excessive cost since they have less and less time available to dedicate to caring for their children.

We must highlight other problems that are related to the negative aspects of the media, such as health problems , obesity , bulimia ,
anorexia , loss of moral and family values , sexual problems , etc. In short, there are many things that the media affects.
We must also recognize that the media, first of all, can exercise an information and education function, for which they must guarantee
the free flow of accurate and constructive information, eliminate misunderstandings, identify the interests that are claimed, the issues
in dispute and help in the construction of the means to clarify the problems. Which requires providing efficient and significant
information for what you want to do.

HOW TO SOLVE THESE PROBLEMS

The best remedy for the influence of television is the practice aimed at a critical and analytical reading of the messages received from
it.

An important aspect to reinforce is education . It is necessary to cultivate critical thinking.

Acquiring critical thinking means an intellectual attitude that proposes analyzing or evaluating the structure of reasoning, particularly
the opinions or statements that people accept as true in the context of everyday life.
CONCLUSION
To conclude this extensive topic we could say that the mass media exert a significant force on contemporary culture. Whether we like
it or not, the media plays a greater role than ever in the education of the new generations, they shape tastes and tendencies in
audiences of all ages, they build the agenda of the issues we discuss daily and they have even changed the ways of governing and
make politics.

The only thing we can do in this inevitable situation is to create critical thinking, promote lost values and take the best of the media
such as assertive information, the acquisition of useful knowledge for personal growth and try not to absorb the negative aspects. that
the media transmit.

PERSONAL OPINION
I believe that the media has both positive and negative aspects.

Among the positive aspects are the following:

1. Through them we can be informed of everything that happens in the world: economy, events, news of greater or lesser importance,
meteorological progress, politics, technical advances, etc.
2. Some of these media do not involve much financial expense, such as television, radio, newspapers or magazines, etc.
3. We can obtain the information we want in a relatively short period of time, even more so if we have a computer with Internet.
4. They are means of distraction, especially for older people who do not usually go outside and entertain themselves with programs or
series.
As for the negative aspects , I must highlight that they are normally due to misuse of these media (spending excessive time) and the
sensitivity or personality of the person receiving the messages. I think that in recent years, television has fostered negative values,
especially in children and adolescents, due to the values of the messages they transmit to us.
Some examples are the following:

1. Violent acts.
2. Failure to adapt the schedules of movies, series and programs that are not indicated for children.
3. They sell us the possibility of obtaining success or happiness with the law of minimum effort, which greatly affects young people.
4. Broadcasting of so-called junk programs that most of them transmit negative values to us.
To all this it is necessary to add the degree of involvement that parents have when allowing their children to watch programming that
is not the most suitable for them.
