INTRODUCTION
In recent years it has been seen that the media have a great influence on society, creating types of behavior
that influence the way people act or think.
Although we know that the media are great creators of stereotypes and drivers of consumerism, it is up to the public that receives the
information not to be influenced by them.
The media are tools that allow us to keep everyone informed of what is happening at a national and international level. These are
channels that give us information, news and images about the world in which we live. In modern societies, which need to be in
constant contact and aware of everything that happens, the media are essential. It is believed that we could not live the same way we
do without the media.
The media are a powerful instrument of socialization, even more powerful than the family, school or work because they shape
feelings and beliefs, train the senses and help form the social imagination. Currently we are immersed in the media from children to
adults, and unfortunately it is not always a good habit, since many people do not use them but are negatively influenced by them.
At this time, both information and communication have become an essential asset for everyone, as they will allow us to build
knowledge and develop teaching-learning experiences that improve our understanding of the environment. Unquestionably, modern
society of the 21st century is linked to the media.
And today's children enjoy watching their favorite characters play or run on television much more than doing the activities themselves
or enjoying the outdoors. It is not only children who find themselves in this situation but also adults. But lately voices have been heard
stating that television affects mentally and morally those who spend a lot of time in front of it.
There are two ways in which the media influences, positive and negative.
The negative way in which the media influences, it could be said, is the violence that they project, causing serious prejudices in
viewers, especially in children and adolescents, which leads them to engage in violent behavior.
Today we know that exposure to violent scenes does not affect everyone equally, nor does it always affect in the same sense and
direction. The most affected are those who lack a sense of desertion to identify the good from the bad.
And from this perspective, the number of violent acts shown on television programs are so numerous that they can perfectly create
aggressive behavior in the recipients.
With these worrying data, we now have to ask ourselves the question: does the violence presented by the media influence the real
violence shown by children and adolescents? It is true that there are behaviors that children and adolescents tend to reproduce after
having observed them in movies or television programs.
And surely we all remember or conclude that there are real-world behaviors that may have found strong inspiration in social media,
especially audiovisual media and informational games.
But the effects of any media are not only in one direction, but the result we obtain with them depends on a series of variables, ranging
from the close social and cultural environment where the individual develops, his or her training, colleagues, cultural media with
those that interact and others.
It is a matter of pointing out that the maturation of the receiver also intervenes in the influence of the media. The influence is much
greater on children and adolescents than on adults.
Television tends to exclude any other activity: manual activities, conversations, regular running times, walks, hobbies...
Spectators have the tendency to consume more and more and worse. The being is isolated, each one is immersed in the media in their
corner, parents and children, each one in their room doing different activities.
As for the family, in addition to avoiding exposure, or overexposure, to violent content, the measures should not be through
censorship, but rather through observation , discussion and analysis of the programs .
We must observe the way in which children and young people today are so affected by this situation, since development in their
families is not like before. Many parents, who due to their work fatigue, or financial or physical limitations in finding other activities
for their children, have no choice but to watch television programming and, despite their reservations, place their children in front of it
while they do homework. housework or are absent to work. Television, in addition to being an easy option for parents, does not imply
an excessive cost since they have less and less time available to dedicate to caring for their children.
We must highlight other problems that are related to the negative aspects of the media, such as health problems , obesity , bulimia ,
anorexia , loss of moral and family values , sexual problems , etc. In short, there are many things that the media affects.
We must also recognize that the media, first of all, can exercise an information and education function, for which they must guarantee
the free flow of accurate and constructive information, eliminate misunderstandings, identify the interests that are claimed, the issues
in dispute and help in the construction of the means to clarify the problems. Which requires providing efficient and significant
information for what you want to do.
The only thing we can do in this inevitable situation is to create critical thinking, promote lost values and take the best of the media
such as assertive information, the acquisition of useful knowledge for personal growth and try not to absorb the negative aspects. that
the media transmit.
PERSONAL OPINION
I believe that the media has both positive and negative aspects.
1. Violent acts.
2. Failure to adapt the schedules of movies, series and programs that are not indicated for children.
3. They sell us the possibility of obtaining success or happiness with the law of minimum effort, which greatly affects young people.
4. Broadcasting of so-called junk programs that most of them transmit negative values to us.
To all this it is necessary to add the degree of involvement that parents have when allowing their children to watch programming that
is not the most suitable for them.
