A. BIOGRAPHY
Mark Elliot Zuckerberg was born on May 14, 1984, in White Plains, New York, into a well-
educated and wealthy family, and grew up in the nearby town of Dobbs Ferry. His father,
Edward Zuckerberg , was a dentist and his mother, Karen , worked as a psychiatrist
before the birth of the couple's three other children: Randi, Donna and Arielle raised in a
Jewish family.
Mark developed an interest in computers at an early age. When he was twelve years old,
he used Atari BASIC to create a messaging program called “Zucknet.” His father used the
program in his dental office so the receptionist could inform him of a new patient's arrival
without shouting across the room. The family also used Zucknet to communicate within
the house. Together with his friends, Mark created computer games just for fun.
His parents saw that the young man needed a higher quality education, so they took him
to the exclusive private school Phillips Exeter Academy, in New Hampshire, where thanks
to his good performance and love of numbers he won prizes in mathematics, astronomy
and physics and classical studies. One of the things he enjoyed most was attending the
Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth summer camp, this was a key place where
Zuckerberg could unleash his imagination, curiosity and ingenuity. Zuckerberg knew how
to read and write French, Hebrew, Latin and ancient Greek.
In 2003 he entered Harvard University and there he would continue and deepen the
creation of different programs. Before finding the popular Facebook, Zuckerberg

Still at Harvard University, in 2004, Zuckerberg created Facebook with the support of the
Computer Science professor and his roommates Eduardo Saverin, Chris Hughes and

connection network between students at Harvard University. The name of the website
was inspired from a newsletter that many universities give to their new students so that
they can meet other students within the center.
Mark made it a priority that Facebook allowed him to add friends, with whom he could
exchange photos and messages, and create groups of friends. Each user had a wall to
allow friends to write messages. Then several modifications were made to the website.
In a short time, Facebook became viral and very popular among university students. The
young man had to leave university because Facebook needed his full attention.

United Kingdom and the United States alone, it had about 64 million users. This is also
because Facebook was only available in English.
By 2008, Facebook diversified and embraced several languages, including French,
German, and Spanish. After that, its popularity and users grew like wildfire.

Mark married Priscila Chan, a young woman from China, who studied at Harvard. They
had two children, Máxima Zuckerberg and August Chan Zuckerberg.
