Introduction
In this book Cal Newport talks to us about how there are many advantages to doing
one task at a time, so as not to get distracted and how to overcome these
distractors that prevent us from finishing our tasks.
There are more and more distractors that lead us to superficial work. This
superficial work is the tasks that we do when we are distracted, since these do not
need much attention.
The more we do this superficial work the less we will be involved in activities that
require more attention than these are called by the author as focused work.
Thus, Cal Newport presents us with the argument of learning focused work, since it
is something valuable, which will help us achieve success in our lives, just as it
helped Bill Gates start a billion-dollar industry in less than a year. semester
The author divided the work into 2 parts:
First, he argues that, in almost all professions, maintaining a focused work provides
enormous benefits, even in one's personal life.
Then present the 4 rules to achieve this work and turn these rules into habits.
Thus the book is an important guide for those seeking success in a world full of
distractions.
The author also says that it is important that we do not spend our free time
browsing social networks
4-Eliminate superficiality
You cannot spend more than 4 hours in a total state of depth.
List the advantages of scheduling your day, one of the advantages would be that
you can see how much time you spend on superficial work, most people spend
30% to 50% of their time on this type of work.
To determine the time spent, you can schedule everything you do. At the beginning
of each work day, create a 30-minute block schedule where you must define work
and personal tasks.
How can I apply it in my life?
You can start by eliminating all the distractors that prevent you from achieving
focused work and allowing your brain to concentrate on a single task at a time.
Responding to emails more selectively, keeping in mind that you should not do it
quickly.
If after doing the 30-day no social media trial, you find that they haven't made any
difference for you or anyone else, delete them.
Finally, apply the rules to achieve good focused work and turn them into habits.
