NAME
Who gave you your name? Who usually names
babies in your country? What names are the
most common in your hometown?
Traditionally, in Vietnam, the names of new-born children are

given by one of their relatives like their parents or fortune tellers.
In my case, my father came up with my full name. Thus, I am so
proud of my name.
Does your name have any particular (or, special)
meaning?
Do you like your name?
Yes, of course. My name “Hiền/Phát/Nam” can be interpreted as
a dutiful girl / ambitious boy as well as immerse success in my
future life. I assume my parents did have somewhat an
expectation when they named me that name. Hence, I am really
into my full name.
In your country, do people feel that their names
are very important?
Yes, certainly. In Vietnam, names are not only a means of
identification. They also deliver parents hopes and expectations
when a new child was born. Besides, a wide range of Vietnamese
believe that names are blessings for newborns. Thereby, a vast
range of populations consider their names a lucky charm for
them.
In your country, do people feel that their names
are very important?
Definitely, not. If I have an opportunity, I would not alter my full
name as there are tons of things I would have to do and all kinds
of forms to fill in to get a new name. Besides, this thing makes no
sense to me. I know changing the full name is so complicated but
it would be nice to try it some day.
Is it easy to change your name in your country?
Surely, not. I’m not sure if the procedures are easy as I have never
known anyone who tried to do such a thing. Nonetheless, I do
think the paperwork required would be quite arduous. Thus, it is
so cumbersome to alter full name in my host nation.
What names are the most common in your hometown?
To my mind. “Anh” will be the most common name in my
country as it is not only compatible with all genders but also
straightforward to pronounce as well as bear in mind. Threfore,
“Anh” is the most prevalent name.
Is your name common or unusual in your country?
Yes, absolutely. “Hiền/Phát/Nam” is so widespread in Vietnam,
whenever someone shouts my name on any crowded streets, I am
sure more than 5 people will turn their head back to find out
who’s calling them. Thus, my name is so conventional in
Vietnam.
Topic 2: ACCOMMODATION
Do you live in a house or an apartment?
At present, I am living in a lavish apartment with my family. I
enjoy my life there, because all facilities and services are
available within walking distance which means I can easily grab
anything I need in just a few minutes. Thus, I am so keen on my
house.
What is your favorite room in your home? Why ?
To my mind, I have a fancy for my own bedroom which is my
tiny world . Besides, I can do whatever I want without getting
scolded from my mom. Thereby, my room is safe and sound place
for myself.
Would you change anything about your home? Why / why
not?
Yes, of course. If I have a chance, I would like to alter the dining
area. As it is the common space for my whole family members to
gather every meal. It would be better if the dining space can be
more spacious. I know it will cost an arm and a led, but it would
be nice to try it some day.
Would you like to move to a different home in the future?
Do you plan to live there for a long time?
Yes, surely. I have a future plan to live in a villa when I get
married as well as I will decorate my accommodation based on
my own decisions. I know it is so complicated, but hopefully luck
will shine on me one day.
How is your apartment decorated?
Actually, my home is styled in a minimal way. Almost everything
is painted in white and blue with a few landscape paintings act as
a delicate touch. Thus, I feel laidback whenever I come back
home.
Do you have a garden?
Unfortunately, not. There is not enough space for a garden in our
apartment. I wish to have one in the future as all household needs
a green space. Hence, a garden is my ideal dream.
Are there many amenities near your home?
Yes, certainly. My house is located in a residential complex.
There are schools, supermarkets, hospitals and so on in my
surrounding areas. Thus, I feel carefree to shelter in my house.
🌿TOPIC 3: WORK/STUDY

Are there lots of English teachers in Ho Chi Minh City?

Yes, of course. Working as an English teacher has gained
popularity amongst youngsters in Vietnam. Simply because, the
income is quite good as well as the schedule is so flexible. Thus,
English teachers are very common in my host nation.
Do you get on well with your co-workers?

Yes, absolutely. We have a lot in common and we are the same
age. Apart from that, we are all crazy about travelling. Thus, I get
on well with my colleagues.
What was your first day at work like?
Honestly, from my vague memory, it was fantastic as my teacher/

colleague was so friendly to welcome me at the beginning. Hence,
the first day at school/work is one of my unforgettable memories.
What responsibilities do you have at work?
Actually, I am in charge of fulfill deadline, complete all tasks as
well as self improve myself in all skills. I find it so complex when
I do the same things day in and day out. Hence, I make effort to
get through every day.
Would you like to change your job in the future?
What would you like to change about your job?
To my mind, if I have a chance, I would like to upgrade my own

salary. Besides, I would like to broaden my horizons and outlook
in life with new challenges in my job. I know it will be arduous
but it would be nice to try it some day.
What is your typical day like at work?
Normally, I start my day at 6 a.m. Then I go to work/school at 7
a.m. I finish my work/study at 5 p.m. After that I enjoy dinner
with my family and I fulfill my deadline at night until 11 p.m.
Thus, I am busy as a bee every day.
