you have any questions.
severe drought conditions with no rain and the fire
danger was somewhere around explosive. Really. Dry
as a popcorn fart, or so the saying goes. I’ve watched
the horizon for as far as you could see for signs of
wildfire and monitored wind direction. After all, how
could you move all those cattle and how could I be of
any help. Probably in truth, not much. Maybe man the
sandwich table for the real fire fighters.
And lets not forget the brutal cold. Add a gale force
wind just to be sure you notice. I’ve been hunting in
years when the truck I was riding in was rocking. How
could you ever get a shot off in that? How could you GLASGOW OPEN HOUSE

snows came. to discuss your pea, lentil and
wheat marketing strategies.
I lived here through the year of the big flood,
caused, in part, by the record snowfall. Water
everywhere. I lived near the Milk River at the time, chsfarmerselevator.com
by the vet clinic. I guess we learned from those poor
people on Cherry Creek because when the sherif came
to the door one morning and told us they thought
the dike behind our house was going to breach, we
listened. We spent the morning moving most of the
entire house to some kind of safety and just when we
thought we were going to have to let the heavier items
go, our new- found friends showed up to help. (Sharon
is my best friend to this day!) The whole town listened
and I fell hopelessly and forever in love with Glasgow
and it’s people on that day. The sand bagging started in
earnest on the dike and I’ll venture a full third or more
of the town were there. My mailman was there and
the entire team of life guards for the public pool were
diverted from their training to help sand bag. The dike
still stands to this day but I’ll bet the current residents
don’t want to see a repeat!
You see, not just hearty people, but truly amazing
people live in Glasgow, Montana. People who
understand that to live here you gotta roll with the
punches. Sometimes you gotta grab a water hose or
volunteer for your local fire department. Sometimes,
you’re gonna need a big plow and a snow shovel.
Sometimes you’re gonna need that shovel to fill a sand
bag. Because, you see, Montana is a Land of Extreme
Weather.
