quantity of details. It is the most type of map used in east Africa. e.g: 1:50,000
b) =3marks@1mark
Map can be represented/expressed in three ways:
i –Statement scale; this is the method where by a scale is described in words to show the
relationship between map distance with ground distance e.g : One centimeter on the map
represented by a half kilometer on the ground
ii. Representative Fraction (R.F) scale; it is the method where by scale is expressed by fraction
or decimals /ratio e.g : 1: 100,000 or 1/50,000
iii. Liner scale, this is the graphical representation of scale where by scale is drawn as a graph
with units of measure.

Given :
Statement scale = 1 cm = ½ km
Standard measure = 1km = 100,000 cm
R.T.F - R.F scale
Solution:
If 1km = 1000,000 cm
½ km ?
= 100,000 cm × ½ km
1km
= 100,000 cm = 50,000
:. R.F = 1: 50,000

Water management is the deliberate effort to maintain water uses for sustainable uses in order to
provide better results. Water management is very important to our daily life .Thefollowing are
some of those importances1 ½ marks
- It ensures continuous availability and supply of water to respective users. ie presence of various
strategies to maintain water make sure it’s production and supply to users
-It reduce the contamination and destroying of water sources such as rivers, lakes and springs .This
is mainly done through provision of education and the use of strict laws and penalties .
- It reduce or vanish the conflicts of water between users, water management helps in reconciliating
the groups of water users conflicts and ensure the collective efforts in managing and using water
peacefully
- It is a useful strategies in conservation and protection of water, management of water is also
involves establishing methods of water conservation such as plating trees at catchment areas.
- Reduce water borne diseases in water resource such as bilharzias, malaria, typhoidUTI,Amoeba etc
.This is done through fumigation and water treatment
- It ensure the increase of water species and products ie due to proper water conservation and
restriction of poor method of using water maintain conducive environment to various water species
