1. What is Hardware? Name its types.


Ans. Hardware refers to the parts of computers that we can touch and see.
There are two types of hardware- Input devices like Keyboard, Mouse and
Output devices like Monitor, Printer.

2. What is the difference between hardware and software?


Ans.
Hardware Software
The physical parts of a computer that The programs and instructions that
you can touch and see. tell the computer what to do.
Ex- Keyboard, Mouse Ex- apps, Games

3. What is application software?


Ans. Application software is a program that helps you do specific tasks on a
computer.

4. Define program.
Ans. A program is a set of instructions that tells a computer what to do.
5. What is the difference between input and output devices?
Ans.
Input Devices Output Devices
These devices are used to enter data These devices are used to get
into a computer. information out of a computer.
Ex- Microphone, Joystick Ex- Speakers, Printers
6. What is system software?
Ans. System software is the boss of the computer. It helps computer do its job
well by managing everything smoothly.

7. Who is the driver of the computer?


Ans. Operating System
8. Give the full form of –
a) RAM – Random Access Memory
b) ROM – Read Only Memory
c) CPU – Central Processing Unit
d) OS – Operating System
9. What is CPU, and why it is important?
Ans. CPU is computer’s brain. It does all the thinking and calculations to make
the computer work.

10. What does a printer do?


Ans. A printer is an input device that prints words and pictures from the
computer onto paper.

11. Classify the devices as an input device or output device.


a) Joystick – Input device
b) Printer – Output device
c) Plotter – Output device
d) Light Pen – Input device
e) Web Camera – Input device
f) Microphone – Input device
12. What does a mouse do?
Ans. A mouse is a small device that helps you move a pointer on computer screen
and select things to make them work.

1. Define Windows. Give its significance.


Ans. Windows is an important operating system as it’s easy to use and helps to
do many things like save, delete, open files with a mouse.

2. What does desktop contain?


Ans. Desktop contains small pictures called icons which represents different
programs, files or folders.

3. Give difference between a file and a folder.


Ans. A file is a collection of data or information including drawings, text,
pictures, etc. whereas folder is a place to store multiple files at one place.

4. How can you show or hide common desktop icons?


Ans. The steps are-
1. Click Start, then Control Panel.

2. Search ‘Personalization’ and click it.

3. Select ‘Change desktop icons.’

4. Check or uncheck boxes for icons you want.

5. Click OK.

5. Define Wallpaper and screen saver.


Ans. The background image on our computer screen is called Wallpaper.
The images or patterns that appear when your computer is idle for a
specified time is called Screen saver.

6. How can you add gadgets?


Ans. To add gadgets-
1. Right click on your desktop.

2. Select ‘Gadgets’.

3. Drag the gadgets you want from the gadget gallery to anywhere on desktop.
7. Define Gadgets.
Ans. The small programs that you can place on desktop for information.
8. Which icon is used to access all the storage of the computer?
Ans. Computer icon.
9. Where do all the deleted files or folder go?
Ans. Recycle Bin
10. Which operating system is launched by Microsoft in 2009?
Ans. Windows 7
