ENSURE THAT 11KV SUPPLY IS ISOLATED , EARTHED & locked
DIS-ASSEMBLE THE COUPLING. REMOVE KEY 7.
Inspect & record condition of motor prior to overhaul
REMOVE MOTOR TERMINAL BOX FROM MOTOR.
REMOVE CABLE AND SEALING BOX FROM MOTOR.
REMOVE MOTOR EARTH BOND.
CARRY OUT THE P.I. TEST. RECORD VALUES.
CARRY OUT THE CHECKING OF WINDING CONTINUITY. RECORD PHASE BALANCE RESULTS.
REPLACE MOTOR TERMINAL BOX NUTS AND REPLACE TERMINAL LID.
UNSCREW THE TWO PLUGS 84 AND DRAIN THE OIL.
REMOVE LABYRINTH RING 87 HAVING FIRST RELEASED THE FIXING SCREW. REMOVE CAP 41.
REMOVE THE THERMOMETERS AND/OR THERMOCOUPLES OF THE TWO BEARING ON THE DRIVE AND NON-DRIVE ENDS A
REMOVE THE BOLTS 92 FIXING THE TWO UPPER HALF END SHIELDS 94 TO THE CAPS 90, ON DRIVE AND NON-DRIVE ENDS
SHIELDS TO FRAME 22, AND SCREWS FIXING THEM TO THE BOTTOM END - SHIELDS 82. REMOVE THE HALF END - SHIELDS
REMOVE CAP 90 ON THE DRIVE END (LEAVING THE SPLIT LABYRINTH 88 ON THE CAP), AND THE TOP HALF BEARING 105 H
REMOVE CAP 90 (BEARING CAP) ON THE NON-DRIVE SIDE AND THE TOP HALF BEARING 108 HAVING PREVIOUSLY RELEAS
SCREW INTO THE THREADED HOLE AT THE END OF SHAFT A BOLT LONG ENOUGH TO PROTRUDE FROM THE SHAFT. SUPP
SLIGHTLY LIFT THE ROTOR, ROTATE GENTLY UP AND REMOVE THE TWO BOTTOM HALF BEARINGS 102 AND 107. LEAVE T
REMOVE THE BOTTOM HALF OF END SHILEDS 82 FROM THE FRAME BY LEVERING AGAINST THE RAISED LUGS 14 HAVING
BEFORE EXPOSING THE STATOR WINDINGS, BLOW OUT AIR DUCTS AND MOTOR IN GENERAL.
TO EXTRACT THE ROTOR INSERT THE END OF THE SHAFT INTO A PIECE OF A STEEL PIPE OF SUITABLE DIAMETER, THEN RA
CARE MUST BE TAKEN TO PREVENT DAMAGES DURING OPERATION. IN PARTICULAR THE SHAFT END SHOULD BE PROTEC
THE STATOR AND ROTOR MAY BE PROTECTED BY INSERTING A PIECE OF SHEET OF METAL IN THE AIR GAP BEFORE PULLIN
BEFORE PULLING OUT THE ROTOR, BLOW BOTH THE STATOR AND ROTOR WITH COMPRESSOR AIR.
CLEAN THE ROTOR AND STATOR LAMINATIONS AND STATOR WINDINGS WITH ELECTRICAL CLEANING SOLVENT AND SOFT
DRY THE LAMINATIONS AND WINDINGS WITH WARM AIR.
INSPECT END WINDING LACING, STATOR WEDGES, ROTOR AND STATOR LAMINATIONS, ROTOR END RING AND BAR ENDS
PAINT THE STOR END WINDING WITH INSULATION VARNISH AS REQUIRED.
REFIT ROTOR IN STATOR USING SKIDS AND O/H CRANE.
TO ASSEMBLE THE MOTOR, CARRY OUT THE SAME OPERATIONS IN A REVERSE ORDER.
AFTER ASSEMBLING THE MOTOR, REMOVE TERMINAL BOX LID AND MEGGER MOTOR TO EARTH AT 1000V AND RECORD
CLEAN MOTOR TERMINAL COVER.
FIT EARTH BOND TO MOTOR. MEASURE THE CONTACT RESISTANCE BETWEEN THE MOTOR FRAME AND THE EARTH BOND

ENSURE THAT 11KV SUPPLY IS ISOLATED , EARTHED & locked
REMOVE SECURING NUTS ON TERMINAL BOX COVER. REMOVE COVER CAREFULLY TAKING CARE NOT TO DAMAGE GASKE
INSPECT THE TERMINAL BOX AND GLAND BOX. CHECK CONDITION OF DRIER AND CHANGE IF WET.
CHECK FOR SIGNS OF MOISTURE, FLASHOVER, AND OVERHEATING OF TERMINAL CONNECTIONS.
DISCONNECT MOTOR POWER TERMINALS.
CLEAN TERMINAL BOX AND GLAND BOX INTERNALS USING DRY CLOTHS.
OPEN THE STAR POINT TERMINAL BOX COVER AND INSPECT THE TERMINAL BOX.
CLEAN THE STAR POINT CONNECTIONS WITH DRY CLOTH. CHECK FOR ANY SIGNS OF OVERHEATING.
MEASURE THE CONTACT RESISTANCE OF THE STAR POINT CONNECTIONS.
CHECK FOR WINDING CONTINUITY AND MEASURE THE WINDING BALANCE
MEGGER THE MOTOR FROM THE MOTOR TERMINALS WITH A 3KV MEGGER FOR 1 MINUTE AND RECORD THE IR
RE-CONNECT MOTOR TERMINALS AND ENSURE THAT THE RUBBER SHROUDS ARE IN PLACE.
CLOSE TERMINAL BOX AND STAR POINT ENSURING THAT THE GASKETS ARE INTACT.
CLEAR WORKING AREA

REMOVE
COLLECT PTW
IDENTIFY CIRCUIT AND INSPECT SWITCHGEAR TO CONFIRM THE MOTOR CIRCUIT IS ISOLATED AND EARTHED.
SECTON A: MOTOR EXTERNAL CLEANING THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTION APPLIES TO MOTORS WITH AN EXTERNAL FAN A
BRUSHDOWN THE FAN GUARD. CONNECT AN AIR LINE TO AIR SUPPLY AND PASS AIR UNTIL DRY. THEN BLOW OUT THE M
USE THE AIR LINE TO BLOW CLEAN THE MOTOR BODY IN GENERAL. CLEAN ANY REMAINING DIRT OFF THE MOTOR BODY
SECTION B: STAR POINT INSPECTION APPLICABLE FOR STAR CONNECTED MOTORS WITH AN EXTERNAL STAR POINT.
REMOVE SECURING NUTS ON THE STAR POINT TERMINAL BOX COVER AND REMOVE THE COVER CAREFULLY, TAKING CAR
INSPECT THE STAR POINT FOR SIGNS OF OVERHEATING. CLEAN THE TERMINAL BOX INTERNALS USING DRY CLOTHES WITH
CHECK INSULATION OF THE STAR POINT TERMINALS. ALL TERMINALS SHOULD BE INSULATED RIGHT UP TO THE LUG SHOU
CHECK FOR TIGHTNESS OF THE STAR POINT CONNECTION. CHECK THAT VIBRATION WASHERS ARE FITTED AND INSTALL IF
APPLY GASKET SEALANT OR A THIN FILM OF GREASE TO THE EDGES OF THE GASKET AND SPREAD UNIFORMLY TO LEAVE N
SECTION C: TERMINAL BOX INSPECTION:
REMOVE SECURING NUTS ON TERMINAL BOX COVER. REMOVE COVER CAREFULLY,TAKING CARE NOT TO DAMAGE THE G
CARRY OUT A PRELIMINARY SURVEY OF THE TERMINAL BOX AND GLAND BOX. CHECK CONDITION OF MOISTURE INDICAT
INSPECT TERMINAL BOX INTERNALS NOTING ANY SIGNS OF STRESS AND THE CONDITION OF THE CABLE. CHECK FOR ANY
COMMENT ON ANY SIGNS OF MOISTURE, FLASHOVER, OR OVERHEATING OF TERMINAL CONNECTIONS. IDENTIFY CAUSE
SEALING CHAMBER INSPECTION: A SEALING CHAMBER INSPECTION SHOULD BE CARRIED OUT IF THERE IS ANY DOUBT AS
DISCONNECT THE MOTOR POWER SUPPLY CABLES. OPEN THE SEALING CHAMBER AND INSPECT FOR MOISTURE/WATER
ENSURE THAT THE CLEARANCES BETWEEN PHASES, WINDING TAILS, IS MAINTAINED UNIFORMLY, GENERALLY ABOUT 50M
FIT A NEW GASKET AND FIRMLY RE-SEAL THE CHAMBER. ENSURE ALL BOLTS ARE UNIFORMLY TIGHT.
MOTOR ELECTRICAL TESTS ENSURE THAT THE MOTOR IS EFFICIENTLY EARTHED AT ITS EARTHING POINT.
DISCONNECT THE MOTOR TERMINALS (ALREADY DISCONNECTED IF SEALING CHAMBER INSPECTION WAS CARRIED OUT)
INFORM THE CONTROLLER OF HV TESTING ON THE DISCONNECTED MOTOR. PLACE HV TAPE AROUND THE MOTOR AND A
MEASURE THE MOTOR WINDING BALANCE USING A MILLI-OHMETER. THE WINDING BALANCE REFERS TO THE DC RESISTA
MEASURE THE MOTOR INSULATION RESISTANCE (IR) AT 2.5KV DC.TAKE THE 15SEC.& 1MIN.READINGS. DISCHARGE THE M
RECONNECT THE MOTOR SUPPLY CABLE. CHECK THE TERMINALS FOR TIGHTNESS AND ENSURE ANTI-VIBRATION WASHER
WHERE TERMINAL SHROUDS ARE NOT PROVIDED, TAP ALL EXPOSED TERMINALS RIGHT UP TO THE LUG SHOULDER. ENSU
WHERE PROVIDED, ENSURE THE GLAND BOX IS IN GOOD CONDITION AND THE COMPOUND INTACT. ENSURE THAT THE E
CLEAN THE TERMINAL BOX AND GLAND BOX INTERNALS USING DRY CLOTHS AND AN APPROVED SOLVENT, E.G. CARBON
FIT BACK THE TERMINAL BOX COVER. USE A HEALTHY GASKET. ENSURE THAT ALL BOLTS ARE UNIFORMLY TIGHT.
APPLY GASKET SEALANT OR A THIN FILM OF GREASE TO THE EDGES OF ALL GASKETS AND SPREAD UNIFORMLY TO LEAVE
SECTION D: GENERAL CHECKS CHECK THAT THE ANTI-CONDENSATION HEATER, WERE PROVIDED, IS AVAILABLE AND FUNC
CHECK THAT THE MOTOR MOUNTING BOLTS ARE TIGHT. CHECK FOR ANY CRACKS IN THE MOTOR FRAME, FEET, OR THE M
INFORM THE SUPERVISOR OF ALL FINDINGS AND REPAIR WORK. IF THE SUPERVISOR APPROVES, CANCEL PTW.
USING THE IR READINGS FOR 15SEC. & 1MINUTE, CALCULATE THE ABSORPTION FACTOR GIVEN AS 1 MINUTE READING DI
SECTION E: CIRCUIT INSULATION RESISTANCE TESTING: TO BE CARRIED OUT AT THE SUPERVISOR/ENGINEER'S INSTRUCTIO
ROPE OFF THE AREA AROUND THE MOTOR AND AFFIX 'DANGER HV TESTING IN PROGRESS' NOTICES.
REMOVE THE CIRCUIT EARTH. CHECK FOR CONTINUITY ACROSS ALL 3 PHASES, I.E. CABLE AND MOTOR CIRCUIT. APPLY AN
PRESENT ALL TEST DATA AND COMMENTS TO THE SUPERVISOR WHO WILL DECLARE JOB COMPLETE ON ACCEPTANCE OF
CANCEL SFT
COLLECT PTW
ENSURE THAT 11KV SUPPLY IS ISOLATED , EARTHED & locked
Inspect & record condition of motor prior to overhaul
COUPLING REMOVAL: ASSEMBLE HYDRAULIC JACK AND PULLING BRACKET. APPLY PRESSURE TO PULL OFF THE COUPLING
IF THE COUPLING FAILS TO COME OFF USING THE JACK, HEAT CAN BE APPLIED TO THE COUPLING UNIFORMLY AND QUICK
COOLER AND FAN COVER REMOVAL: REMOVE THE FAN COVER AND/OR THE COOLER COMPARTMENT ON TOP OF THE MO
PULL OFF THE FAN IN THE SAME WAY AS THE COUPLING. THIS IS APPLICABLE TO MOTORS WITH AN EXTERNAL SHAFT MO
THROUGHLY CHECK FAN FOR ANY CRACKS ON WELDS,NOTE DOWN ANY AND REPORT ANY DEFECT FOUND TO SUPERVISO
BEARING REMOVAL MOTORS WITH ROLLER /BALL BEARINGS: REMOVE BOLTS OR SCREWS HOLDING THE BEARING CAPS O
SUPPORT THE DRIVE END SHAFT
REMOVE THE ENDSHIELD BOLTS- THE ENDSHIELD CAN THEN BE EASED AWAY FROM THE STATOR FRAME AND THE SHAFT
REPEAT FOR THE NON DRIVE END BEARING
ASSEMBLE THE BEARING PULLING EQUIPMENT
REMOVE ANY BEARING LOCKING NUTS TAKE GREAT CARE AS THE BEARINGS MAY HAVE TO BE REUSED IF SPARES ARE NO
PULL THE BEARINGS OFF EACH END OF THE SHAFT. STORE BEARINGS CAREFULY TO PREVENT ANY INGRESS OF DUST
REMOVE THE ROTOR FROM THE STATOR AND PLACE IT ON TH WOODEN BLOCKS OR STANDS
MOTOR WITH WHITE METAL BEARINGS SPEC.: REMOVE THE SEALING RINGS AROUND THE SHAFT AT BOTH ENDS OF THE
REMOVE THE BEARING BOX COVERS FROM ONE END OF THE MOTOR.
REMOVE THE OIL RING AND SLIGHTLY RAISE THE SHAFT TO TURN OUT THE BOTTOM HALF BEARING. REMEMBER TO KEEP
LOWER THE SHAFT UNTIL THE ROTOR RESTS IN THE STATOR REPEAT THE ABOVE FOR THE OTHER END OF THE MOTO
UNBOLT THE BOTTOM BEARING BOXES AT BOTH ENDS.
MARK ANY SHIMS ARCORDING TO POSITIONS WHERE THEY HAVE BEEN REMOVED .KEEP THEM SAFE FOR USE IN ORIGINA
REMOVE THE END SHIELD COVERS FROM EACH END
REMOVE THE ROTOR
INSPECT THE WHITE METAL BEARINGS
CHECK FOR SIGNS OF CURRENT CONDUCTION
CHECK IF THE BEARINGS ARE SCOURED OR WIPED IN ANY WAY
ROTOR INSPECTION:-CLEAN ANY DUST ON THE ROTOR.
INSPECT ALL COPPER BARS AND END SHORTING RINGS(PAY PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THE POINTS WHERE THEY MEET
USE DYE PENETRANT TO CHECK ANY SUSPECT BARS
STATOR INSPECTION:-CLEAN OFF ANY DUST OR GREASE
INSPECT THE STATOR BORE AND END WINDINGS
REPORT ANY LOOSE SLOT WEDGES OR WINDING TIES
GENERALLY CHECK THE CONDITION OF THE INSULATION ,NOTE DOWN ANY SUSPECT SPORTS ,REPORT TO THE SUPERVISO
REPAIR ANY ABNOMALITIES FOUND USING APPROVED INSULATION MATERIALS OR PAINT
CARRY OUT A MEGGER CHECK
REASSEMBLY:- STATOR AND ROTOR MUST BE CLEAN
FIT BEARING END PLATES TO EACH END OF THE ROTOR SHAFT
ROLLER/BALL BEARINGS:- HEAT THE REPLACEMENT BEARINGS IN AN OIL BATH TO APPROXIMATILY 150*C
FIT THE BEARINGS ,SLIDE THEM TO THE SHAFT ENDS UNTIL THEY LOCATE IN THE CORRECT POSITIONS.
ALLOW THEM TO COOL
LOCATE ONE ENDSHIELD AND PREPARE LIFTING EQUIPMENT TO RAISE ROTOR FOR INSERTING INTO THE STATOR
INSERT THE ROTOR
FIT THE REMAINING ENDSHIELD
BOLT THE ENDSHIELDS TO THE STATOR
PACK BOTH BEARINGS WITH GREASE
FIT THE OUTER BEARINGS END CAPS AND THE BOLTS THAT HOLD THEM IN POSITION
CEHK AIR GAPS -RECORD RESULTS
REASSEMBLY OF WHITE METAL BEARINGS:-INSERT THE ROTOR INTO THE STATOR MAKE SURE IT IS CENTRAL
REFIT THE END SHIELD PLATES TO BOTH ENDS OF THE STATOR FRAME
FIT THE BEARING PEDESTALS TO EACH END OF THE MACHINE (TAKE NOTE FO WHERE THEY WERE REMOVED).FIT DOWEL
LIFT THE ROTOR SHAFT AT EACH END
SLIDE IN THE BOTTOM HALVES OF THE WHITE METAL BEARINGS NOTE: SOME NDE WHITE METAL BEARINGS ARE INSU
CARRY OUT AN AIR GAP CHECK ON THE ROTOR
ADJUST THE AIR GAP UNTIL IT IS THE SAME ALL ROUND
ASSEMBLE THE TOP HALF OF THE BEARINGS (MECHANICAL WILL CHECK BEARING CLEARENCES)
FIT THE SHAFT SEALS ON EACH STATOR END PLATE.
CHECK THAT THEY ARE NOT RUBBING ON THE ROTOR SHAFT
COOLER AND FAN REPLACEMENT:- PUT THE FAN COVER BACK PLATE OVER THE SHAFT
HEAT THE FAN BASE TO ABOUT 150*C
FIT THE FAN ON THE SHAFT
REASSEMBLE THE FAN OUTER COVER AND COOLER COMPARTMENT TO THE MOTOR ,MAKE SURE THE JOINTS ARE SEALED
CHECK THAT THE CASING SEALS AROUND THE ROTOR SHAFT ARE NOT RUBBING
HEAT COUPLING TO 150* C
FIT COUPLING
MEGGER MOTOR- RECORD RESULTS
INFORM SUPERVISOR THAT THE JOB IS COMPLETE
WHEN SUPERVISOR IS SATISFIED THAT THE JOB HAS BEEN COMPLETED AND HAS BEEN DONE CORRECTLY
RAISE WOC FOR THE MOTOR TO BE PAINTED

PULL THE BEARINGS OFF EACH END OF THE SHAFT. STORE BEARINGS CAREFULY TO PREVENT ANY INGRESS OF DUST
REMOVE THE ROTOR FROM THE STATOR AND PLACE IT ON TH WOODEN BLOCKS OR STANDS
MOTOR WITH WHITE METAL BEARINGS SPEC.: REMOVE THE SEALING RINGS AROUND THE SHAFT AT BOTH ENDS OF THE
REMOVE THE BEARING BOX COVERS FROM ONE END OF THE MOTOR.
REMOVE THE OIL RING AND SLIGHTLY RAISE THE SHAFT TO TURN OUT THE BOTTOM HALF BEARING. REMEMBER TO KEEP
LOWER THE SHAFT UNTIL THE ROTOR RESTS IN THE STATOR REPEAT THE ABOVE FOR THE OTHER END OF THE MOTO
UNBOLT THE BOTTOM BEARING BOXES AT BOTH ENDS.
MARK ANY SHIMS ARCORDING TO POSITIONS WHERE THEY HAVE BEEN REMOVED .KEEP THEM SAFE FOR USE IN ORIGINA
REMOVE THE END SHIELD COVERS FROM EACH END
REMOVE THE ROTOR
INSPECT THE WHITE METAL BEARINGS
CHECK FOR SIGNS OF CURRENT CONDUCTION

FEEL THE MOTOR BODY FOR VIBRATIONS. REPORT HIGH VIBRATIONS TO FOREMAN IMMEDIATELY.
INSPECT THE HEAT EXCHANGER FOR ANY SIGNS OF BLOCKAGE OF THE COOLING AIR DUCTS.
