Activity 1. The works of science and technology greatly influenced the development
of nation-building in the country. At this point, let us try to determine the extent of its
influence in the country. Please elaborate your answers to the questions below:
1. Discuss the traced development of science and technology from the pre-
colonial times up to the present.
In pre colonial times, there were two civilization namely the ancient and the medieval.
In Ancient civilizations, they developed the mathematical systems and astronomical
observations. While in medieval, science and technological development continued
where they made significant contributions to astronomy, mathematics, and
engineering. In simple words, they laid the foundation of science and technology.
After the pre colonial was the colonial and industrial period. In this period, the age of
exploration started, where people explored and discovered new lands leading to new
inventions, just like how Ferdinand Magellan ventured and discovered the Philippines.
After that is the scientific revolution, where scientist such as Isaac Newton and Galileo
Galilei used science, to unravel how the world works. Lastly, the Industrial Revolution.
In this period, machinery changed how things were made which led to big cities.
The Modern Era is what we live in today. During this period, much more advanced
technologies were made and developed that gave every people a better way of living.
By the use of science and technology, everything now is much easier to accomplish
and achieve.
In conclusion, from ancient civilizations until now, science and technology have been
getting better and better. Technologies are getting more advanced, which is changing
our lives.
Identify some achievements in the field of science and technology from President
Marcos up to the present administration.

protect and preserve the environment, and to ensure the sustainability of the
natural resources. These are the Clean Air Act of 1999 and Electronic
Commerce Act of 2000.

Activity 2. In this activity, you are required to elaborate on your answer to each
of the questions below.
1. What do you think are the significant contributions of science and technology to
the Philippine nation-building?
Just like in the other countries, science and technology also contributed on the
economic growth in the Philippines. Many infrastructures are also developed including
transportation system, water system, energy system, communication networks, and
etc. Education in the Philippines was also developed in order to build skillful workforce
that can drive innovations and developments in the future.
2. What specific government policy do you like the most in contributing to the
development of science and technology in the Philippines?
The government policies I like the most is regarding in Education, since it helps
improve the quality of education and upgrade school facilities. There are also
public schools that are free for those people who are not financially stable, to give
them chance to learn and gain new knowledge.
4. What policies do you want the government to implement in the near future?
The policy that I might want to implement in the Philippines in the near future is sex
education. Because nowadays, there are already a lot of cases of teenage pregnancy,

which is not normal. That's why sex education for teens must be taught, to make their
minds more open and for them to know what's the right thing to do, to avoid situations
that could destroy their future.
1. It’s right that the key to nation-building is the continued development and
application of science and technology. But perhaps, there must be policies or
laws to be followed to control and limit the might destructive effect on the
environment and to the people, just to achieve nation-building.
2. Leaders in a certain county must promote policies that can benefit for
the entire population in the country. They must consider everyone and think of
them equally.
