CH-6 Lines & Angles
Basic Concepts
1. Collinear points: Three or more points are said to be collinear if there is a line which contains
all of them.
2. Intersecting lines: Two lines are intersecting if they have a common point. The common point
is called the “Point of intersection.”
3. Concurrent lines: Three or more lines intersecting at the same point are said to be concurrent.
4. Lines parallel to the same line are parallel to each other.
5. If A and B are two points on a line, then the part of the line with end points at A and B is called
the line segment AB.
6. Two congruent angles have same measure and conversely two angles of equal measure are
congruent.
7. Acute angle: An angle whose measure is more than 0° but less than 90°.
8. Right angle: An angle whose measure is 90°.
9. Obtuse angle: An angle whose measure is more than 90° but less than 180°.
10. Reflex angle: An angle whose measure is more than 180° but less than 360°
11. Complementary angles: Two angles are said to be complementary, if the sum of their
measure is 90°
12. Supplementary angles: Two angles are said to be supplementary, if the sum of their measure
is 180°
13. Adjacent angles: Two angles having a common vertex and a common arm are called adjacent
angles if their uncommon arms are on either side of the common arm.
14. Vertically opposite angles: Two angles are said to form a pair of vertically opposite angles if
their arms form two pairs of opposite rays.
15. Linear Pair: Two angles are said to form a linear pair, if the sum of their measures is 180°
16. If a ray stands on a line, then the sum of two adjacent angles so formed is 180°.
17. If the sum of two adjacent angles is 180°, then the non- common arms of the angles form a
line.
18. If two lines intersect each other, then the vertically opposite angles are equal.
19. If a transversal intersects two parallel lines, then
 each pair of corresponding angles is equal.
 each pair of alternate interior angles is equal.
 each pair of interior angles on the same side of transversal is supplementary.
20. If a transversal intersects two lines such that, either
 Any one pair of corresponding angles is equal, or any one pair of alternate interior
angles is equal, or any one pair of interior angles on the same side of the transversal is
supplementary, then the lines are parallel.
21. A plane figure bounded by three line segments is called a triangle.
22. Scalene triangle: A triangle in which all the sides are of different lengths.
23. Isosceles triangle: A triangle whose two sides are equal.
24. Equilateral triangle: A triangle having all sides equal.
25. Right-angles triangle: A triangle with one angle as a right angle.
