Saigon Newport Corporation is a military enterprise under the Navy, established on March 15,

1989 with 3 business pillars including: port exploitation; Services of Logistics; shipping and
marine services. Saigon New Port manages business and operates the most professional,
modern and largest port in Vietnam with an import-export container market share of over 90%
in the southern region and more than 60% of the market share in the country with the following
services: cargo handling, logistics, maritime, rescue, pilotage, real estate, civil and military
construction... and multimodal transport.

About the organization

There are 15 offices under the corporation and 43 affiliated subsidiaries. Among them, there are
10 port operation service companies, 4 cruise transport companies, 25 logistics service
companies, and 4 other service companies.

About the historical development

Over the past 20 years, Saigon Military Port has gone through 4 stages:

Phase 1 (1989-1991): Building staff organization and forces, preventing infrastructure


degradation; Regulate order, security, and operation of bulk cargo ships. The organization of
staff and forces in this phase includes: Board of Directors of 4 people and a number of
assistants, two subordinate units are the security team and the warehouse; number of 36
people.
Phase 2 (1992 - 1997): Continue to develop organization - staffing; upgrading infrastructure,
purchasing specialized equipment; Switch from operating bulk cargo ships to operating
container ships. Implementing Decision 325/TTg dated July 13, 1993 of the Prime Minister of
Vietnam on re-establishing Saigon Newport Company. By the end of 1996, the staff and force
organization included: Board of directors: 3 people, 11 departments, one factory, one team, one
board. The total number of the entire unit is nearly 1,000 people, in addition to indirectly
managing more than 1,000 people of 9 satellite loading and unloading cooperatives.
Phase 3 (1998-2005): Continue to perfect the organizational model of staffing and force
expansion in the area, through the model, and modernize the management and exploitation of
specialized container ports. During this period, the Board of Directors consisted of 7 people, the
factory, 10 departments and the Private Guard Battalion.
Phase 4 (From 2000 to present): switching to the parent company and subsidiary model
according to Decision No. 342/TTg-DMDN of the Prime Minister and Decision No. 82/2006/QD-
QP of the Minister of Defense , continue to expand the area, scale, depth, modernize port
operation management, diversify production and business lines. Accordingly, the payroll
organization includes: Board of Directors, Board of Supervisors, Board of General Directors, 8
member companies, 4 factories, Dispatch Center, Office, 11 functional departments and Self-
Defense Squadron. The total number of troops is nearly 3,000 people.
