Trace the design onto a 12” x 8” rectangle of white background fabric and fuse the
applique shapes in position.
Blanket stitch around the applique shapes with a single strand of thread. I chose
threads which blended with the main colour of each fabric.
I’ve numbered the flowers according to row. Top row are flowers 1 and 2, bottom
row are flowers 3, 4 and 5.

Embroidery:
(I chose DMC threads)
Mint (3881) – backstitch the stems and leaves. Sew a line of blanket stitch up the
middle of the leaves. Sew a line of running stitch over the top of the green hill.
Dark Pink (962) – backstitch the petals of flowers 1 and 5 and sew short straight
stitches inside the petals.
Very Dark Pink (150) - blanket stitch around applique flowers 2 and 3.
Turquoise (598) - backstitch the petals of flowers 2 and 3 and sew short straight
stitches inside the petals.
Bright Pink (603) - backstitch the petals of flower 4 and sew short straight stitches
inside the petals.

The second border was 1” wide strips of pink fabric. The borders were sewn with a
¼” seam.
I then fused medium weight Pellon behind the bordered block before laying the
block face down onto the right side of a rectangle of backing fabric.
NOTE: If you want to add hanging ties now is the time to make them and sew them
in place.
Lately I’ve enjoyed finishing small projects without binding and using the envelope
closure instead, so once you’ve pinned the front and back of your wall hanging
together (right sides together), just sew around all four sides with a ¼” seam, leaving
a 4” opening along one side for turning out.
Turn right side out, pressing the corners gently with a large rounded tool such as a
knitting needle, and ladder stitch the opening closed.
I did not add a hanging sleeve because I used lengths of Perle #12 thread stitched
behind the small quilt to attach it to the branches of my porcelain tree.
I wonder what you have at home that would be an unusual mini quilt hanger?
Look with new eyes and you may surprise yourself!
