Turn-over and Inauguration of the Milkfish Nursery Facility

at Brgy. Nalvo, Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur

The rehabilitated Milkfish Nursery Facility has already been inaugurated and officially
turned-over to the University of Northern Philippines and LGU Sta. Maria on December
14, 2022 at Brgy. Nalvo, Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur.

The ten million worth of project was funded by the Department of Agriculture - Bureau
of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region 1.

The project aims to intensify the production and the availability of milkfish fingerlings
for aquaculture activities in the municipality and in Ilocos Sur as a whole. It has been
known that the province is rich with wild milkfish fry, and the rehabilitated facility can
be used as a conditioning and nursery facility to improve survival rate.

In his message, UNP President Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna, extended his warm gratitude to the
bureau. “We remain thankful for your support of the University’s [UNP] quest to build a
globally recognized institution that bears the name of us being Ilocanos. With this
project, UNP will be in the forefront of aquatic resource preservation and cultivation” he
said.

“This project will be a great help to our local fisherfolk especially here in Sta. Maria,
where millions of milkfish fry are being collected every year”, Municipal Mayor Hon.
Brigido Camarillo, Jr. said on his speech of gratitude.
