I was reading over my Personal Project Proposal and found out that I still had some research to do. It was do to research on about and how to create information systems. I also have to research on database and how to create them. I have decided to them later this month.

May and June 2009:

I finished my research I had left on databases and information systems. I learned something new. I learned how to create environmental systems and databases. I looked at various examples of environmental systems so that I can base my environmental system website on the examples I looked at. I am finally done my research. I am finally done one of the major tasks required to be completed in order for this project to be successful. I split up the work into two months because I had to focus on summative and exams for the course. The sources I used are:

What I learnt through this research?

I learnt: How to create a information system website on an environmental topic that not only gives information but also captures viewers attraction How to create and manage databases How to create databases in different program(s) o Microsoft Access o Microsoft Excel Viewed examples of information system didnt just read what they are

June 3, 2009:
Today I had a meeting with my student mentor. I discussed my progress in the project and discussed what programs and resources I need to accomplish my project.

June 17, 2009:

I started to create the outline for my website and all its secondary pages and where the links will go after finishing all my research. This is only a rough copy. This is not my final links and my final design for my website. In this design there are 5 pages including the home page. There are 4 links: Advantages and Disadvantages, Impact on the Environment and Effects on the Wildlife, Other Options and Solutions and Polythene in the News and Interesting Facts. To create this website I will need the following programs: Adobe Photoshop

CS3 (to create the home page design for my website and slice it so that it can be read in Dreamweaver), Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 (to create my website, manage my home page, create my links and add style) and Microsoft Access 2007 (to create and edit my database). Luckily I dont have to download any of these programs. I have all of them on my computer. I am going to create my website in the way I learned at school, in my Grade 9 class (web design course AWS 108). The design of my website will be in the form of the design of an Environmental System.

June 23, 2009:

Even though this is not in the project proposal, I wanted to create some kind of game or quiz to add it to my website so that it is not just plainly filled with information and pictures. To do this I will have to learn Java and JApplets. I carried on my way to research on what I have to do to make the 10 question long quiz in my website. I found out that I had to learn applets. I will research in the Java book its bibliography is given at the end of this entry and in the schools website - Ms.Gorskis Java notes bibliography given at the end of this entry. I studied applets there too. The game will execute in an applet. One question will pop up at a time. There will be 4 choices and only one choice will be the right answers. If you choose the right answer you will get a dialog bog saying right and your score will increase by one. If you choose the wrong answer you will get a dialog box saying wrong. Your scored will be ranked out of 10 at the end. Before I carry on with Java and the game I need to make questions for my quiz. The bibliography for Java book and Java notes on the website are:
Schildt, Gerbert. The Complete Reference Java. 7th ed. New Delhi: Tata McGraw-Hill Company Limited, 2007. Print. "Computer Science, Gorski." Turner Fenton Secondary School. Web. July-Aug. 2009. <http://www.turnerfenton.com/Students/lessons/gorski>.

July 3, 2009:

I printed the websites I have used in the previous months for research. I just print some of them because I had to go somewhere and I didnt have time. I highlighted all the important points that will help me make my website.

July 10, 2009:

Based on the design I drew on paper the previous month I started to create the design on Photoshop. The design on paper does not exactly look like the design on Photoshop. They are similar though.

July 19, 2009:

Today in Microsoft Word I typed the 10 questions for my quiz. Each question has 4 multiple choice answers and only one is correct. I have a good feeling about this game and how it will turn out.

July 23, 2009:

Today I started to learn about programming. I learned the basic syntax. I read from the Java book and web site notes for the Turner Fenton website. I learnt about how to basic operation with Java addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. I learned about the primitive types in Java. I am now able to make basic Java programs that do simple operations.

July 26, 2009:

I printed the rest of the websites I used for my research. I highlighted all the major important points need for the creation of my website. I have all the research required in my hand with all the important points underlined.

August 3, 2009 August 7, 2009:

I started other home page designs in Adobe Photoshop CS3. I will continue working on them for the next few days. There are 2 of them. These designs take more time than I thought.

August 14, 2009:

Today I have created my final website design with all the links finalized. The home page looks awesome. I am now ready to go into Dreamweaver to the content part of the website.
