THE IMPORTANCE OF FOOD SECURITY FOR CARICOM COUNTRIES

Write an article on the above topic. In your article define 'food security', then state TWO factors
that have affected the production of food in the Caribbean. Next, give THREE reasons why
security in food is necessary for the Caribbean. Finally, suggest ONE initiative farmers may take
to ensure food security for the region. State why you would support the initiative you have
suggested for the farmers.

GLOBALISATION: COOPERATE TO SURVIVE

Prepare an address to a group of businessmen on the above topic. First, define what 'globalisation'
is, then state TWO negative effects of globalisation for Caribbean businessmen. Next, give
THREE reasons why regional cooperation is necessary to compete with international producers
in a global environment. Finally, suggest to the businessmen ONE action they may take to prepare
their workers for globalisation. State why the businessmen should support the measure you have
suggested.

8. Write an article on 'Income, Savings and Investments'. First, define the term 'savings' AND the
term 'investments'. Then, state TWO sources from which citizens obtain income. Next, give
THREE explanations to show how a country benefits from the savings of its citizens. Finally,
suggest ONE strategy that may encourage citizens to save. Write a statement to show why the
strategy you have suggested would encourage citizens to save.

9. Write an essay on 'Devaluation' . In your essay say what 'devaluation' means and state TWO
factors that may cause the government of a Caribbean country to agree to devaluation. Give
THREE reasons why the consumers of that country may object to devaluation. Finally, suggest
ONE action consumers may take to deal with the negative effects of devaluation. Write a statement
to justify the action you have suggested.

A COUNTRY'S CULTURAL TRADITIONS BIND ITS GENERATIONS

Write an essay based on the above statement. In your essay say what is meant by 'cultural traditions' .
State ONE factor responsible for the variety of traditional practices in the Caribbean, and identify
TWO methods by which these practices are passed on from one generation to the next. Give
THREE reasons why the governments ofCARICOM states provide funding to support the region's
cultural practices. Finally, suggest ONE measure that may promote the continued existence of
your country's cultural traditions. Write a sentence to justify the measure you have suggested.

BREAKDOWN IN THE COMMUNICATION PROCESS

Write an essay on the above topic. First, define 'communication' and then state TWO factors
which may cause a breakdown in communication in a class. Next, give THREE reasons why a
breakdown in communication may affect group activities. Finally, suggest to youth groups
ONE measure that their members may take to maintain effective communication. Write a statement
to support the measure you have suggested.

12. Write a report on the development of tourism in the Caribbean. In your report state THREE
factors that influence the development of the industry in a host country. Give THREE explanations
to show how a prosperous economy in a supply country may create a demand in a tourist destination.
Finally, suggest ONE action tourism officials in the Caribbean may take to promote the development
of regional tourism. State why you believe that the action you suggested would be successful.

TOURISM AND THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT

Prepare an address to a group of hoteliers on the above topic . In your address, identify TWO
marine-related recreational activities provided for tourists and state how EACH of these activities
may have a negative effect on the environment. Next, give THREE reasons why an environmental
impact study is necessary before hotels are constructed. Finally, suggest ONE measure that
hoteliers may take to protect the marine environment. Explain why the hoteliers should support
the measure you have suggested.
