Christianity Culture
Christianity is a monotheistic religion that is based on the belief on the life and
teachings of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. It is a faith based tradition that is considered as
the world’s largest religion. Its followers are called Christians. Christianity has various
themes but one of its main themes that was taught and preached by Jesus and is widely
practiced among Christians includes loving God, loving your enemies and loving your
neighbor as yourself. However, in a world of varying cultures this brings about the
question of, “What should be the attitude of Christians to people with different culture as
them?”
Christianity, in itself is a cross cultural and a very diverse religion. Over the years,
Christians have been immersed to various cultures and it has been not only a test of
faith but also a test of camaraderie and unity among them. Christians have lived in
various countries with different cultures, traditions and upbringing, which is different
from those that are established by the religion. As such, this cultures may be embraced
or rejected.
However, it has been one of Christianity’s goal to spread the word and teachings
of Jesus Christ all over the world. This Christian commandment does not only
incorporate plain talking and preaching but it should most importantly establish
communication especially to culturally different people. Thus, as Christians that is
immersed in this multicultural world, we should approach people of different cultures as
how Jesus approach those that are stranger to him – and that is with love, respect and
understanding. We should emulate Jesus Christ and his teachings and display cultural
empathy because this makes for a smoother and pleasant interactions with them.
Furthermore, it makes us tolerant to this cultural differences and understand where their
beliefs is rooted from. Nevertheless, some culture and beliefs may be different as to
what our religion mandated and we should apply guarded approach to this, nitpicking
what we should accept and embrace, and what we should refuse. Yet this does not
mean that we disregard such culture but it is a way of agreeing and compromising to
these differences.
Respect begets respect. As Christians, this should be what we should engrave in
our minds because not only will we be able to emulate Christ’s life but we would be able
to edify His name through displaying respect and loving our neighbors as ourselves.
This way, we, Christians would also be acknowledged, respected and most
importantly, we will be tolerant to these cultural differences.
