A. Definition of Writing
Writing is one of the most important and important language skills in a person's life.
The benefits of writing are as follows:
(1) writing can be used to develop initiative and creative power. In connection with
mechanical elements such as language, spelling, and punctuation must also be supported by
elements of creativity that cannot be separated from the ability to think crisis, namely the
ability to take the initiative and the ability to create new things.
(2) writing can also contribute intelligence.
Writing is essentially a regular process of thinking, so that what is written is easily
understood by the reader. A text is said to be good if it has characteristics, including
meaningful, clear, round and complete, economical, and fulfilling grammatical rules.
Writing ability is a person's ability to express thoughts, ideas, ideas, by using a series of
written languages that are good and right.
The ability to write someone will be good if he also has:
(a) the ability to find problems to be written,
(b) sensitivity to the condition of the reader,
(c) the ability to plan research plans,
(d) the ability to use Indonesian,
(e) ability starting writing, and
(f) the ability to examine the essays by yourself.
This ability will develop if supported by reading activities and the wealth of vocabulary they
have.Writing is how person communicates his or her thoughts and feelings by visible signs,
understandable not only for himself but also for all other people.
It Means that when one writes, she or he can express her or his feelings and houghts, from
words into sentences and sentences into paragraphs which have meaning (Siddiq, 2013).
In this Case the teacher is a very important part in the process of teaching writing.
As Educators, teachers must ensure that their students learn something useful, beneficial and
lasting for their future.
Three roles of the teacher in the teaching and learning process of writing are as a motivator,
a resource (giving clarification and facilitation), and a feedback provider (Harmer, 2002).
Therefore, the teacher has full responsibilities and significant roles in the teaching and
learning process Of writing.
Teaching Writing Skill usually, in the classroom, the teaching writing is frequently seen as a
way of finishing the homework and assignments, especially at the elementary.
According to Bryne (1988) state in (Pratiwi, 2015), there are some difficulties students have
in Writing, there are :
1. The students are weak of vocabulary mastery so they are difficult to express their idea
into the word.
2. The students are weak of grammar mastery so they are difficult to write grammatical
Sentence.
3. The students are weak of spelling and punctuation so they are not able write properly
and Correctly.
4. The students are lack of motivation in learning writing so they are not confidence
Performing in writing.

According to Brown (2007:262),Corder (1991:36-37) and Ellis (1997:18) stated in (Mustafa


et Al., 2016) they assumed that’s there are four categories which they are classification of
students Error in writing. There are:
1. Omission is the error which do by the students because they are cannot produce the
correct Word. This errors can found in grammatical morphemes such as verb, articles,
nouns, Preposition, inflection, are left out more often than the content of morphemes
which brings the meaning.
2. Addition is the mistake which add some needless and fired part of words. Using both

Modal and verb be or adding -s to noun which are similar in form for both singular and

Plural form, or uncountable noun.

3. Selection is the error which do by students when they are choosing the wrong word
form, Or can be mentioned misformation or malformations. This mistaken usually
include of Phoneme, morpheme, structure or vocabulary items.
4. Misordering is error which do by the students in an incorrect order of word in a
sentences. Usually students use Indonesian transferring or translating from Bahasa
Indonesia.

B. Kinds of Writing
1) Email
2) Diary
3) Blog

C. Type of Writing

1) Persuasive
Persuasive writing is a type of writing which contains Justifications and reasons to
make someone believe in what The author believes in. Persuasive writing, unlike
expository Writing, contains the opinions, bisness and justification of the Author.
2) Narrative
Narrative writing is a type of writing in which the Author places himself as a character,
or not, and narrates the Story. Novels, short stories, poetry and biographies can all Fall
into the narrative writing category.
Narrative writing often Has situations like disputes, conflicts, action, motivationa
events,
problems and solutions.

3) Descriptive
Descriptive writing is a style of writing which focuses On describing a character,
an event or a place in great detail. It is sometimes poetic in nature in which the
author is Specifying the details of the event rather than just the Information of what
happened. The author visualizes to you What he sees, hears, tastes, smells andfeels.
4) Expository
Expository writing is a subject-oriented writing style, in Which the main focus of
the author is to tell you about a given topic or subject, and leaves out their
opinions.

D. The Writing Process

Writing is not an easy activity. Students must follow the process engaging many
implementation in order to make good writing. On the other side, writing has some
process to follow because writing is not instant to acquire. The activities are
Prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing.
According to Barbara (2007: 6), writing is a process of discovery played out over
time, you can’t expect it to do all at once especially not all at once right before the
deadline. Every Writing has a process, the writer must follow the writing process.
Writer is not easily move from step to another step before she/he does a step
sometime the writer must have double check before finishing step of his/her
written.
1) Prewriting: This is the planning phase of the writing process, When students
brainstorm, research, gather and outline Ideas, often using diagrams for mapping
out their thoughts. Audience and purpose should be considered at this point, and
for the older students, a working thesis statement needs to be started.
2) Drafting: Students create their initial composition by writing
Down all their ideas in an organized way to convey a Particular idea or present
an argument. Audience and Purpose need to be finalized.
3) Revising: Students review, modify, and reorganize their Work by rearranging,
adding, or deleting content, and by making the tone, style, and content
appropriate for the Intended audience. The goal of this phase of the writing
process is to improve the draft.
4) Editing: At this point in the writing process, writers proofread and correct errors
in grammar and mechanics, and edit to improve style and clarity. Having
another writer’s feedback in this stage is helpful.
5) Publishing: In this last step of the writing process, the final writing is shared
with the group. Sharing can be ccomplished in a variety of ways, and with the
help of computers, it can even be printed or published online.
E. How Useful is “Writing Skill” in the Digital Era?
However, the power of the written word remains as potent as ever, if not more so, in
this digital era. Effective writing skills play a pivotal role in various aspects of our
personal and professional lives. In this article, we will explore the enduring importance
of writing skills in the digital age and cite examples where necessary.

Those who possess strong writing skills can convey their thoughts with clarity and
precision, avoiding such pitfalls and facilitating meaningful online interactions.

In the digital era, writing skills are far from obsolete; they are more essential than ever.

professional success, and storytelling are all areas where strong writing skills play a
pivotal role.
Your ability to convey ideas persuasively and professionally through the written word
continues to be a critical skill in a world where information flows at a rapid pace. The
digital age has not diminished the value of writing skills; it has heightened it.
