The Department of Heavy Industry for the month of August, 2010

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL)

• BHEL has achieved a turnover of Rs.11812 Crore up to the month of


August 2010, an achievement of 19% growth with respect to
corresponding period last year. This includes a provisional turnover of
Rs.2537 Crore achieved during the month.

• Order booking:

• Up to the month of August’2010 orders worth `Rs.15122 crore have


been booked which include orders worth Rs. 3159 Crore booked
during the month. Business Sector-wise Order booking are as
following:

o Power sector has booked orders worth Rs. 12861 crore as on


August’10 which include orders worth Rs.2764 crore during the
month.

o Order booking in Industry Sector has reached `Rs. 2113 crore up


to August’ 2010. During the month Rs. 254 crore orders were
booked which include order from BPCL, Mumbai for Re-cycle Gas
Compressor worth Rs. 42 crore and orders from railways worth Rs.
52 crore for supply of 277 nos. of Traction Motors.

o Order booking in International Operations has reached Rs.147.69


crore as on August 2010. During the month orders worth Rs.
140.76 Crore were booked which include Orders for Gas Turbine
Package for Iraq.

Significant Milestones:

• In power sector, major milestones achieved during the month include Capacity
Addition of Baramura 21 MW Open Cycle and Synchronisation of Kuttyadi Unit-2
(2x55 MW Hydro).
• In Industry sector arena, major achievements during the month include
Synchronisation of Unit-2 of BORL, Bina (3x 33 MW STG), Unit-1 of ACC-Wadi-
2x25MW and Coal firing of Unit-10 Nalco, Angul (2x120MW).

• In overseas market, the major achievements during the month include Completion of
reliability run of Unit-1(157 MW) Western Mountain (Extn) Libya.

Representation in Exhibition:

• BHEL had participated in 79th Izmir International Fair at Izmir Turkey


from 27th – 31st August as a part of India Pavilion under aegis of FICCI.

• International Operation Division represented BHEL in India-CIS-Turkey


Business Forum on 24th -25th August at Istanbul, Turkey.

Awards & Recognition:

 BARKI TOJIK Team from Tajikistan visited BHEL Bhopal and Bangalore
units and the Indira Sagar Hydro Power Plant from 18th -25th August 2010
and appreciated BHEL’s presence in the field of Hydro Power.

II HMT Bearings Ltd.

The Voluntary Retirement Scheme was notified and 83 eligible employees who
availed VRS were relieved on 31st August, 2010. Rs. 7.50 crore was sanctioned by the
Govt. for implementation of Voluntary Retirement Scheme.

III Report of the Task Force set up by Hon’ble Minister (HI&PE) on the issue
of merger of/ MoU between the three engineering companies namely; (i)
Engineering Projects India Ltd. (ii) Bridge & Roof Company Ltd. and (iii) BBJ
Construction Company Ltd. under the administrative control of Department of
Heavy Industry has been received and accepted by the Govt. at the level of
Minister (HI&PE) In the said Report, following modalities/course of action has
been spelt out to achieve the merger:-
(i) Initially, the three CPSEs may enter into a MOU to work together in
all their activities and operations till such time as the merger is
effected by Government of India with a time frame of say, 6
months.
(ii) Based on the MoU entered, the three companies would execute
common projects for a period of 6 months, during which due
diligence and detailed analysis will be done to sort out the merger
related issues before entering into a full merger.

The concerned PSEs have been advised to take further action in the light of
recommendations of Task Force.

IV Department of Heavy Industry, in association with Corporate Executive

Board India Pvt. Ltd.(CEB) conducted half-day workshop on 30th August, 2010

for Senior Executives of PSEs under this Department, located in Delhi region, on

benchmarking and best practices in the functional areas of Finance, strategy and

Human Resources.

IV Performance of major PSEs

A brief tabular statement on the performance of some of the major PSEs

under the Department of Heavy Industry is enclosed at Annex-I. The production

of these companies’ during April-July 2010 was 16.50% higher as compared to

corresponding period last year.
