Good morning, everyone. Thank you for being here today.

Let me introduce myself

briefly, my name is Lan Phuong. As you know, studying abroad has become much more
prevalent in this current day and age than it was before. More and more students choose to
go to another country for their higher education. Studying in foreign countries is a big
decision that brings along a number of benefits, but it is not without its challenges. I’m here
to make a short presentation on the topic “The disadvantages of studying abroad” Before
getting into the presentation I have questions for you: Has anyone here ever thought about
studying abroad? You can raise your hand if the answer is yes. Thanks for ur answer. I
would like to tell you about my story When I was in high school, I got third place in an
English contest. The prize was a scholarship to study in Australia with a 50% discount on full
tuition. However, at that time when thinking about whether to study abroad or not, I chose
not to. I’m going to speak for from 5 to 7 minutes and this presentation is divided into 3 main
sections: high cost, Language and CULTURAL BARRIERS, homesickness, I would be
grateful if any questions could be left until the end. Let’s get started.

Studying abroad is a growing trend among students for many reasons. It may appear
appealing, However, It is not always easy. This brings me to The first difficulty is that abroad
study costs students a great deal of money. The cost of studying abroad can be expensive,
from the course itself to everyday living. It is common knowledge that students who study
abroad might pay more exorbitant fees such as living fee, accommodation fee, tuition fee.
Individuals may find that bearing all of the costs of studying abroad is both costly and tiring
which may lead to their scores or even mental health. The second obstacle that students
may face when studying in another country is Language and CULTURAL BARRIERS. This
is a massive challenge. Sometimes what we have learned is not sufficient for us to
communicate with new people around us. Even if they have researched it carefully, they will
find lots of different things when they actually live there. They will be faced with a new
language, customs, religion, food, dress style etc. For example, the “thumbs up”, known in
the Western world as a sign of approval “ good”, well done, in some middle eastern countries
it is seen as an insult. Finally, it is sure that you will be homesick. It is a feeling of stress
caused by separation from people and places that you know. Leaving home to go to another
country is a very common cause of this. Studying abroad is hard because everything is new,
and they don’t have your familiar safety net of friends and family. Furthermore, stu may feel
alone without any emotional support Making and developing friendships takes much time
and it can be more difficult in a culture that they are not used to.

To sum up, studying in foreign countries brings along a number of benefits, but it is
not without its challenges such as high cost, language culture barriers and homesickness.
students should learn about disadvantage and get ready before relocating to a new place. in
my opinion, although studying abroad is challenging, it is beneficial for students. It will be
hard for them at the beginning. However, after a few tough years, they will reap the rewards.
