Fold the last row of the brim back in the middle and sew it down with a few stitches. That
makes the brim stiff.
Make 3 pom-poms, 1 large for the top and two smaller ones for the ties.

How to make a Pom-Pom:
Make two donut shaped pieces of cardboard, about the size of the pom-pom size (4 ½ ”
diameter for the top one, 3” diameter for the ties); trace a cup twice on your cardboard.
Draw a smaller circle in the middle of your larger circles. The larger the inner circle, the fuller
the pom-pom will be. Now cut out the two larger circles, and then cut out the inner circles. You
will now have two donut shaped rings. Place the rings together.
The idea now is to wind the yarn around the rings. Cut the yarn into manageable lengths,
perhaps about 6 feet at a time. Hold one end on the outside of the ring and feed the other end
through the hole, round the back and through the front again. Repeat this, working your way
around the ring until all the cardboard is covered. As you use additional lengths, you don't need
to tie them together, just make sure the ends are on the outside, not in the middle. If it makes
it easier for you, try using a crochet hook to feed the yarn through. Once your rings are fairly
full of yarn, cut the yarn around the edges (i.e. the scissor blade should eventually pass
between the two pieces of cardboard as you are cutting.) You won't be able to cut it all in one
go so just do a few layers at a time. Pass a length of yarn between the two pieces of cardboard,
around all the strands of wool, and tie it firmly together. Don’t remove the cardboard if you are
making the smaller ones for the ties! Join the pom-pom first by pulling the yarn through the
little loop at the end of the tie and tie it firmly. Now you can remove the cardboard rings (cut
them if necessary). Trim any lengths of yarn which are uneven.
