Plucking Out Round

1. This round is composed of 15 questions. Each question is worth 1 point,

and is good for 20 seconds.
2. Before the round starts, the board of each contestant must have their
divisions and their respective numbers written on the top right corner of
the board.
3. The quizmaster will read the question twice before the timer starts. Once
the quizmaster says “Go”, the timer will start. Contestants may only write
their answers after the “Go” signal. All contestants must raise their boards
as soon as the time allotted elapses.
4. For multiple choice questions, everyone must write their final answer in
uppercase letters only. Answers in lowercase letters will strictly not be
considered.
5. For identification problems, answers shall be stated in complete
words—spelled out and spelled correctly. Acronyms will be considered
incorrect unless otherwise specified.
6. If contestants want to raise a protest or a question, they may raise their
hands so that the quizmaster may acknowledge them. The judges will
then evaluate the protest/question. Protests/Questions may be entertained
before the reading of the next question.
7. The judges’ decision of the protest will be considered final and
irrevocable.
8. Answers should be erased only after all the answers have been checked
and after all the protests have been resolved.
9. Out of the total number of participants, the top 12 will proceed to the
“Cream of the Crop” round.
10. In case of a tie, there will be a Sudden Death round. The first contestant/s
to answer the question correctly shall be declared the winner of the tie.

Cream of the Crop Round

11. This round is composed of 10 questions, now worth 3 points each and
good for 20 seconds.
12. Rules 2 to 8 of the previous round shall also apply in this round.
13. In this round, every wrong answer will result in a 2-point deduction. But, if
the contestant has no answer on the board, he/she will have no deduction.
14. Out of the 10 qualifiers, the top 8 shall be chosen to qualify for the final
round.
15. In case of a tie, there will be a Sudden Death round. The first contestant/s
to answer the question correctly shall be declared the winner of the tie.
Final Phase

⮚ Before the round starts, the top 8 contestants will randomly pick from 1-8 for their
position in the bracket through draw lots.
⮚ The bracket will be as follows:
⮚ There will be three rounds for the Final Phase, the quarterfinals, the
semifinals, and the finals.
⮚ Each match in the round, except for the finals round, is a best-of-3 matchup.

⮚ Each question has a 30 second-timer. Whoever raises his/her board first will be
the first one to be recognized. If the answer is wrong, the opponent has a
chance to steal if there is still time on the clock. Once the timer on the clock
expires, yet no one answered the question correctly, both of them will not gain a
point. Each correct answer is worth 1 point.
⮚ Whoever gets 2 points, or gets a higher score than his/her opponent will
proceed to the next round.
⮚ Contestants can only answer once per question in the three rounds.
⮚ For the finals round, it will be a best-of-5 matchup. Whoever gets 3 points, or
gets a higher score than his/her opponent will proceed to the next round.
⮚ In case of a tie, there will be a Sudden Death round. Contestants may answer
as many times as he/she can until a correct answer is given. The first contestant
to answer the question correctly shall be declared the winner of the tie.
⮚ The winner of the finals shall be declared the champion of PICE Genius 2023.
