RIZAL – LIFE AND WORKS OF RIZAL

Second Semester, AY 2021-2022

COURSE OVERVIEW

COURSE DESCRIPTION

As mandated by Republic Act 1425, this course covers the Life and Works of Jose Rizal, our Philippine
national hero. Among the topics covered are Rizal’s biography and his writings, particularly the novels
“Noli Me Tangere” and “El Filibusterismo”.

Today, the importance given to the subject, RIZAL (Life and Works of Rizal) is significant especially to
the Filipino youth. This subject gives information and knowledge about the Life, Works and Writings of
Jose Rizal. The purposes of this course are: (1) to rededicate the lives of youth to the ideals of freedom
and nationalism, for which our heroes lived and died, (2) to pay tribute to our national hero for devoting
his life and works in shaping the Filipino character.

This is a three-unit course that develops your ability to study and analyze the Life, Works and Writings of
Dr. Jose P. Rizal. This subject relates to the socio-political situation of the Philippines during RIZAL’s
time and its implication to our present time.

To ensure that you will demonstrate the above cited course learning outcomes at the end of this semester,
this course is divided into the following:

MODULE 1: INTRODUCTION. This module aims to explain the context and importance of Rizal law
(RA 1425).

MODULE 2: LIFE OF DR. JOSE RIZAL. It introduces Dr. Jose P. Rizal through his Biographies.
MODULE 3: WORKS OF DR. JOSE RIZAL. This module provides a discussion about the works and
writings of Dr. Jose Rizal especially his two popular novels: “Noli Me Tangere” and “El
Filibusterismo.” It is divided into three lessons:
1. Selected Popular Works and Writings of RIZAL
2. Noli Me Tangere
3. El Filibusterismo

Through the various program offerings of CICOSAT Colleges, characterized by excellent and globally
relevant academic and technological preparations, the CICOSAT graduates should possess the following
institutional outcomes along the given dimensions:

PROGRAM OUTCOMES

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN CRIMINOLOGY

1. Actively practice the profession by applying their knowledge and skills in Law Enforcement
and Administration, Criminal Jurisprudence, Crime Detection and Investigation,
Correctional Administration and Forensic Science.
2. Engage in other related careers in the field of criminology like guest lecturer, researcher,
publicist, trainers, etc.
3. Share expertise in community development with professionalism, ethics and teamwork.
4. Uphold the value of Filipino historical and cultural heritage, constitutional and statutory
guarantees.
5. Pursue life-long learning through personal growth and professional advancement.
6. Guarantee offender’s welfare and development for their re-integration to the community.
7. Protect the human rights to ensure the welfare of the people and community.
8. Effectively communicate orally and in written from both English and Filipino, including
local language in the conduct of crime investigation as well as in law enforcement.

COURSE GUIDELINES

This course provides various activities and performance tasks aimed at developing your cognitive,
affective and psychomotor skills. So, in order to pass this course with exemplary performance, your
dedication and active participation are highly recommended. It is imperative for you to do all the
activities provided in this module, “Understanding the Self” to possibly achieve the learning outcomes.
Furthermore, there are protocols and guidelines you need to follow:
1. You can verify how well you did in this lesson by working on the learning activities which are
found in every lesson.
2. To assess your learning on each module you need to take a summative test at the end of every
period and you need to get a score of at least 75% of the number of items.
3. You are advised to answer all items in the test independently which means that you are not
allowed to go over the lessons while having the test. The score reveals your level of
comprehension, knowledge, diligence and rate of retention on the lessons.
4. To those who answer online, all outputs you have submitted can be shown automatically, the
progress of your score. In terms of your examination, it is shown automatically after submission
of your examination by clicking view score in order for you to show a summary of your works.
5. Do as instructed in terms of additional readings in the websites, sharing of ideas, thinking on
some issues, doing activities and exercises. Submit your assignments and activities on time. In
addition, you are required to search google, youtube, dictionaries, books etc. for your additional
references.
6. In cases where you need further explanation on some topics presented, you can have
supplemental readings using any of the listed references at the end of the lesson. While reading,
there might be some ideas or concepts that sound vague to you. Please jot them down and bring
this out for discussion during our weekly discussion forum or you can contact me through my
Gmail account, email ([email protected]) or call me via 09506160753), or in my
Facebook messenger account, Blessie Villanueva, or in our assigned Group Chat for the subject,
RIZAL, in order for you to be enlightened and learn.
7. Schedule and manage your time to read and understand every part of this course. Read it over and
over until you understand the point.
8. Attend your offline and online discussions prepared by your instructor/professor.
9. Study on how you can manage to do the activities of this course in consideration of your other
modules from other courses.
10. Your exams (Prelim, Midterm and Final) will be administered through Google Classroom in a
specific date and time. However, if you can’t access it on the assigned date due to valid reasons,
you may ask me to re-schedule your exam on the date you are available. You may use your
existing email account to access Google Classroom. You may create your email account prior to
this, in case.
11. Your scores in all your activities correspond to specific points/scores and your scores will be
tabulated for the computation of your grades. If you are not satisfied with your scores in your
activities, don’t worry because you still have a chance to improve it. You may answer it again for
mastery of the topics however; your score on the first try would be the score to be recorded.
12. In answering all the assessment and evaluation activities, write legibly. It will help if you will not
write your answers in the module if you are not yet sure of your answers.
13. Finally, you are the learner; hence, you do the module on your own. Your family members and
friends at home will support you but the activities must be done by you.
