The purpose of the scheme as mandated by the academic authority of the Ibrahim
Badamasi Babangida University Lapai, Niger State and industrial training fund to
ensure that the students are exposed to practical task of assertion to what they have
learnt atheoretically in school
I did my SIWES programme at Prestige Fm 91.7 Bosso Lowcost, the first day I
resumed work, our SIWES coordinator introduced me and my fellow colleagues to
all the various department in the stations equipment.
I was later attached to production/sound and news and current affairs department
where the industry based supervisor on duty explained the different sections in the
various department and their functions. I was later assigned to record and edit
news stories and also assist the sub-editor on desk in proof reading, editing of news
bulletins in sequential order. This technical report centre on the student work

This technical report centre on the student work experience scheme at Prestige FM
91.7 Bosso Lowcost Minna, Niger State. The purpose of the scheme as mandated
by the academic authority of the polytechnic and industrial training fund to ensure
that the students are exposed to practical task of assertion to what they have learnt
theoretically in school.

The students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) was established in
1973/1974 session. Prior to the establishment of the scheme, there was a growing
concern among our industrialists that graduates of our institutions of higher
learning lacked adequate practical background studies preparatory for employment
in the Industries Jerry G.H (2011). I was attached to production/sound, news and
current affairs department where the industry based supervisor on duty explained the
different sections in various department and their functions. I was later assigned to record
and edit news stories and also assist the sub-editor on desk in proof reading, editing of
news bulletins in sequential order.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
1. Prepare students for post graduation work situation.
2. Expose students to work methods and techniques in handling equipment and machinery
that may not be available in educational institutions.
3. Provides avenue for students in institutions of higher learning to acquire industrial skills
and experience in their course of study.

A. THE ADMINISTRATIVE DEPARTMENT
1. They are in charge of the slot each person or anyone come to make or get
in the department they carry out the duty of every affair that requires
urgent attention such as the finance or capital income of the station.
2. They are also the one who solicit from the affairs of the department to the
senate or to the public.

Summary
I was able to learn a lot about broadcasting, how to source for news, write news
story, edit and search for special topic for report, bulletins, identify how the role
and job of a journalist looks like.
I was exposed to preparing of news items, press release from information gathered
in the council and many more. My training was such a wonderful one and couple
with the fact that I was posted to news and current affairs department and other
department in the radio studio and it added knowledge to me to be creative, bold,
when conducting vox pop and various interview I was able to speak fluently.
Conclusion
The three month Industrial Training with Prestige FM 91.7 MHZ MX Was a
tremendous success and at the same time a great place of acquisition of
knowledge and skills relevant to mass communication study Through my
training, I was able to appreciate my choice of course of study even more.
My training has given me a broader view to the importance and relevance of
mass communication to the general public and the world at large.
