WORK REPORT
(Review Period: July 2019 to September 2023)

As an Engineer-in charge in Quality control of Solid Motor Propellant Complex

(SMPC) & SR-SDSC during the report period, I am responsible for ensuring quality
functions at various stages of propellant processing operations and ensured the
operations are carried out as per approved quality assurance plan for the following
segments to meet the requirement of PSLV/GSLV/LVM3/SSLV/G1-X missions,

 9 HS200 segments
 9 S200 segments
 64 S139 Segments
 10 HPS3 motors
 3 SS1 segments
 3 SS2 motors
 3 SS3 motors
 3 S200 SSA & 5 SS1 SSA

A. RESPONSIBILITY:
 Inspection & assessment on process adequacy as per approved procedures
during blast cleaning, degreasing, primer application, insulation lining and
vulcanization activities of segments/motors/submerged sub-assemblies (SSA).
 Assessment of the insulation lay-up scheme for all the variants of Solid
motors as per the drawing requirement.
 Provide stage clearance for Pedcoat-Resin lining operations by ensuring
process parameters & quality of liner.
 Periodically participation in the fitness of systems and subsystems of major
process facilities in SMPC and present the observations to FFRB reviews.
 Witness of Raw material weightments as per formulation.
 Verification of segment burn rate data.

B. SPECIFIC CONTRIBUTIONS:
B.1 Development of New Source of ROCASIN Rubber: Involved in the generation of
qualification plan for alternate sources for ROCASIN from M/s. MIL and M/s. Thejo
Industries. All qualifications tests were completed and successfully inducted into
production.
B.2 Process Improvements
 Verified & cleared for implementation of revised insulation lay-up scheme for
hybrid S200 Hardware to cater the requirement of both S200 & HS200 solid
motors.
 Prepared the plan for stages inspection and successfully implemented alternate
venting scheme of Loose Flap in S200/HS200-NES & HPS3 hardware.
 Identified the root cause for de-bond between Loose Flap & propellant and
addressed the issue by implementing revised loose flap scheme in SS1 HES
segment.
 Involved in the generation of insulation build-up for revised SS1/SSA after ST-01.

B.3 Development & R&D activities:

 Development of alternate solvent for currently used de-greasing media i.e.
Trichloroethylene (TCE) under progress in collaboration with IIT, Tirupati.

B.4 Experimental Studies & Salvage of issues:

 Carried out the extensive trials to establish the shelf life of the ROCASIN rubber
stored beyond the stipulated period to obtain LSC and NCRB clearances.
Subsequently assured the quality of relined hardware which were not completed
lined due to COVID 19 pandemic.
 Devised the scheme for re-work on S200-SSA to address the issue of lack of
desired insulation compression needed at interface of S200 NES & SSA during
assembly.
 Studied reasons for metal to rubber de-bonds observation in various segments of
S139 & S200 motors. Devised a scheme for salvage and suggested preventive
measures.
 Studied reasons & devised salvage proposal for insulation to inhibition de-bonds
in S139 NE segments. It was successfully implemented.

B.5 Quality Audit

 Carried out product and process quality audit on ROCASIN production at M/s
MIL and ensured proper quality system

B.6. Projects/Facility augmentation

 ASMP – Involved in qualification trail of newly commissioned Blast cleaning
machine & degreasing machine (Unit-1) for induction into a regular production
 SPAG – Involved in FAT trials of 10-ton vertical mixer at CMTI and carried out
homogeneity analysis.
 New Autoclave facility- Involved in qualification trail of newly commissioned
Autoclave facility (Unit-1) for induction into a regular production

B.7. Contribution in Review Committee

 As a member of sub-committee for evaluation of insulation of HS200 motor post
static test, inspected the left out insulation & evaluated safety margins for Human
rating.
 Prepared quality Assurance Plan for hardware preparation & lining activities for
HS-200 segment processing and obtained approval from DRT-G-SPS.

 Provided assessments on hardware & insulation lining operations for segments to

Pre-cast Readiness Review Committee (PRRC), LSC, NCRB, DRT-G etc.

C. TECHNICAL REPORTS:
 Prepared Pre-Cast Readiness Review input on hardware & insulation lining
activities for various segments/motors processed at SMPC in the successful
realization of 81 No’s S139, HPS3/SS2 & SS3 segments/motors.
 Prepared and presented Quality Assessment Reports on propellant system of
S139, HPS3/SS2 & SS3, totaling around 72 No’s to DRT-SPS-OLV, FRR-LV
reviews for various missions of PSLV C-44 to C-54, GSLV F-10 & F-11.
 A technical document titled “Failure mode effect & criticality analysis (FMECA) for
SS2 & SS3 Motor Processing” submitted to SSLV Project. (SR-SDSC/FMECA/SS2-
SS3/2021/63)

D. OTHER ACTIVITIES /ACHIVEMENTS

 Participated in public outreach programs, Space on wheels’ exhibit and YUVIKA-

2023
 Acquired qualification PG Diploma in Human Resource (PGDHRM) from Symbiosis
University, Pune in 2019.
