b. upskill and reskill elementary teachers on science process

skills; and

c. be familiarized with the different steps on assessment

V. PROCEEDINGS ✓ The workshop started with a short program hosted by
Ma’am Hana Carina R. Mesina. The program was as
follows:
-singing of Nationalistic Song through AVP
-prayer through AVP
-Roll Call led by Sir Paul Andrei E. Sereño
-Welcome Remarks from the District School Principal
Science Coordinator Ma’am Mary Ann M. De Mesa
-Inspirational Message from Public Schools District
Supervisor
-Introduction of Speakers came from Sir Arvin S. Tuazon

✓ Ma'am Shiela M. Rivera of Magsaysay Elementary School

was the first to speak about Science Process Skills. She
began her discussion with an icebreaker dubbed
scavenger hunts, which the participants enthusiastically
engaged in. She immediately asked them how they define
science process skills. She compiled all the responses and
connected them to the topic she will be discussing. She
underlines the importance of teachers, particularly those
who teach science, identifying the SPS in their lessons to
ensure that learners comprehend it correctly. She
concluded her lecture with a science process skills activity

in which participants expanded their vocabulary on basic

and integrated science process skills.

✓ The following speaker, Ma'am Hana Carina R. Mesina of

San Ramon Elementary School, talked on Matter, the first
quarter component of science. She began with a group
activity on Chemistry Taxonomy. She discussed Matter and
the significant sub-topics that teachers should focus on in
their teaching right after the presentations of the
participants. She concluded her discussion with an
engaging activity called Density Tower.

✓ Another speaker was Sir Paul Andrei E. Sereño of Colo

Elementary School, who discussed Sound, Light, and Heat.
He chose this topic since it is the least mastered
competency in the Third Quarter. He encouraged the
participants to focus solely on the competencies for a
given grade level and not be overwhelmed with teaching
what is not important. He began his presentation with a
quick review, followed by a discussion of Sound, Light, and
Heat. He ended up with a multitude of activities that the
participants enjoyed.

✓ Ma'am Ana Carisa P. de Jesus of San Pablo Elementary

School completed the first group of speakers by discussing
Living Things and their Environment, notably the
Cardiovascular System, which is contemporary and
relevant today. She concentrated on the various parts of
the heart and their functions, as well as how to care for
them. This topic was overlooked in the Second Quarter;
thus, it needs to be brought up again. She completed her
presentation with various activities, and the participants
presented thoroughly.

✓ Sir Ferdinand V. Fajardo of San Ramon Elementary School

explained Earth and Space, one of the most interesting
components of science. Though intriguing Earth and Space

nevertheless contain some of the least mastered

competencies, which Sir Ferdinand concentrated on. He
began by getting input from participants on how they
viewed Earth Science. He then began his discussion,
focusing on several fields of Earth Science and providing
amazing information that teachers can employ in their
lessons. He concluded his presentation with a Solar
System activity that brought out the artistic sides of the
participants.

✓ Ma'am Shiela M. Rivera took over and spoke about

Assessment in Science in relation to TIMSS (Trends in
International Mathematics and Science Study). She
discussed various possibilities that must be handled when
it comes to math and science assessment. She stressed
that learners in our country should be given time to
comprehend math and science competencies, and
teachers should be given sufficient training for utilizing in
their lessons. She ended up looking at how teachers would
design TIMSS-aligned assessments.

✓ Following the discussions, Ma'am Shiela and Sir Ferdinand

participated in Demonstration Teaching. Ma'am Sheila's
topic is Weather Types, while Sir Ferdinand's topic is
Force. The school principals served as their observers. A
post-conference was also held to assist teachers in
improving their teaching skills.

✓ Closing Program took place right after the Demo Teaching.

The flow was as follows:
-Nationalistic Song through an AVP
-Prayer led by Ma’am Danica Joy G. Mallari
-Impression is given by Sir Richard Rhen Agkis
-Awarding of Certificates
-Commitment led by Ma’am Michelle D. Serrano
-Challenge has given by Ma’am Mary Ann M. De Mesa
