(B) Some bee’s eggs.

(B) To see where the hornet’s nest is located.
(C) Not to walk in the same location as Greg.
(D) To keep away from Greg.
(woman) Did you hear what happened to Greg?
(man) I heard he got stung by a bee
(woman) Well, he did get stung, but it wasn’t by a bee.
It was a hornet that stung him while he was
out walking in the park.
(man) If it was a hornet, then Greg probably came very
close to the hornet’s nest. I understand that
hornets usually only attack if they’re trying to
protect the nest where the eggs are waiting to hatch.
(woman) So hornets are only dangerous if you come close to
their nests ?
(man) Yes, so Greg probably came close to a hornet’s nest
while he was out on his walk in the park.
(woman) Then we should find out where Greg was walking and
not go walking there
• What happened to Greg?
• Why do Hornets attack?
• What did Greg probably come close to?
• What is the woman’s advice?

(B) Twain wrote about the contest while he was watching it for
the first time.
(C) Twain went to see the contest many times during his lifetime.
(D) Twain wrote about the contest before it actually took place.
(woman) Today we’re going to see something that most of you have
probably never seen before: a frog-jumping contest. This frog-jumping
contest is part of the Calaveras County Fair, in Calaveras County, California.
In this frog-jumping contest, about 2,000 frogs and their owners
participate, and more than 40,000 people usually come to watch. The frog
owners encourage their frogs to jump by yelling, screaming, jumping,
singing, talking, blowing, any way they can. To win the contest, a frog needs
to jump three times in a row.
This contest is based on a story by Mark Twain; it’s called “The
Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.” Twain published the story in
1865. Sixty-three years later, in 1928, the people of Calaveras County
decided to hold a contest just like the one that Twain had described a
number of years earlier.
• What type of contest is it?
• Approximately how many frogs participate
each year?
• How many times does a frog need to jump to
win?
• What is true about the frog-jumping contest?

Raven is common name applied to about ten large birds
of the crow family. The best known is the common raven, found
throughout much of the northern hemisphere, from the high
Arctic islands of Canada to the deserts of North Africa. It is the
largest of all songbirds, attaining a length of more than 60 cm. It
has a wedge-shaped tail and is satiny black, with a metallic,
bluish sheen. The bill is long, powerful, and slightly hooked, and
the feet are strong. The common raven is omnivorous, feeding
on seeds, fruit, small birds and mammals, and even carrion. It
nests on high trees or cliffs; the female lays four to eight
spotted, light-blue eggs in a clutch, and both parents feed the
young. Because of its social behavior, intelligence, and high
adaptability, Ravens has become the subject of many legends
and folklores in many communities.

The deer is a distinctive animal easily
recognized by the antlers that adorn most species of
male deer. These antlers are used by the males
primarily to fight, either for mates or for leadership
of the herd. Deer generally lose their antlers each
winter and begin growing new ones in late spring.
The new antlers are soft knobs covered with velvety
hairs. Later in the year as the seasons progress, the
antlers grow and harden into solid branches. In the
middle of winter, the full-grown antlers fall off and
decay on the ground. The following spring the
process begins again.
