My LinkedIn Profile

Optimization Guide:
How to get people to
notice you in 2024

Justin Welsh

First, think of your LinkedIn
profile as your “sales page.”

It should encourage people to:

Follow you

Engage with your content

Become a customer
of your business
Your profile should clearly
communicate:

What you do
Who you help
The outcome they can
achieve by working with you

Knowing this, let’s refine

your profile from the top:
Tip #1:

Banner image

This horizontal image at the

top of your profile is prime
real estate.

Use it to share more about

your business, products,
newsletter, etc.
Chris Donnelly did a stellar
job with his banner:

It’s clean, specific, and easy

to understand, conveying his:

Newsletter Subscriber Frequency Topic

name count
Tip #2:

Profile photo

Think of this as your digital

first impression.

Invest in a professional,
high-quality image that
aligns with your brand.
I love Jay Clouse’s photo.

It:
Is warm
Is inviting
Shows his friendly,
creator-first attitude
Remember:
Your photo should invoke the
right emotion.

Do you want to be seen as...

Trustworthy? Funny?

Serious? Kind?

Make it match.
Tip #3:

Tagline

Make this clear, not clever.

Don’t make someone read it

and wonder, “What exactly
does this person do?”
Clearly tell people what you
do and who you help, like
Dan Go does:
If you’re struggling to write
an effective tagline, start
with these frameworks:

The Value Who do you help? What

Statement: do you help them do?
What outcome should
they expect?

The
Curiosity- What unique project are
you working on? What
Inducer:
can people expect if
they follow you?
Tip #4:

Community Top
Voice Badge
This new(ish) feature is an easy
way to lend more credibility to
your profile:
To earn one:

01 02

Go to Find a topic that aligns

linkedin.com/pulse/ with your brand and
topics/home knowledge

03

Top Voice Pick one article a day, and

add your thoughts and
opinions

Within 3-4 weeks...

You should have a badge to

showcase your expertise.
Tip #5:

Featured section

Use this to direct people off

LinkedIn to places where you
control the narrative, like your:

Newsletter Products Website

I see a lot of people using their
Featured section to show off
their best LinkedIn posts...

But there’s a better

way to use it:
Highlight one or two places
people can go from your profile.

Avoid overwhelming them with

choices. Here’s how I did it:
Tip #6:

About section

Tell your story here.

Share your journey and how

you ended up in your
current position.

People love a good story.

For example, here’s what mine
looks like:
Also, don’t be afraid to brag
about your tangible results.

This is your chance to show

people:

Why they should pay

attention to you
How your story translates
into results for you and your
clients
In summary:

LinkedIn is still the most

underrated platform for
creators and business owners.

Having 560,000 relevant

followers on the platform has
helped my business 10x...

More than having 480,000

followers on X/Twitter.
But before you can
play in the game...

Make sure your profile is

ready to compete.
Give your profile an
overhaul with these tips...

And I guarantee:

People will take your

content more seriously

You’ll see a boost in

impressions and followers
