1. Sewing machine - a machine used to sew fabric and materials together with
thread. It is used to stitch the fabric and other pliable materials together with
thread
2. Scissor or shear - a tool for making multiple cuts to fabrics or textiles. They are
used to cut patterns, sewing allowances or to perfect garments.
3. tailors chalk- a thin flat piece of hard chalk or soapstone used by tailors and
seamstresses for making temporary marks on cloth.Used for temporary guide
markings on fabric to indicate where it needs to be cut or left out, shortened or
lengthened, or where a pleat needs to be made, and so on.
4. tracing wheel- a small plain or toothed wheel attached to a handle and used on
tracing paper to trace a clothing pattern.To transfer markings from sewing
patterns onto fabric with or without the use of tracing paper, and can be used
to make slotted perforations.
5. silk pins- An extra-fine pin designed for sewing with silk and other delicate
fabrics. Used to hold fabric together at the seam line before sewing. They
temporarily hold fabric in place while attaching and cutting patterns and while
sewing or pressing.
6. Bobbins and Bobbin case- the tiny spool of thread that sits in the bottom of your
sewing machine. It assists the upper thread by making stitches on the bottom
side of the fabric. It helps hold seams together. Front load bobbins need a
bobbin case. Top load bobbins don't.
7. An awl or stilettos- is the modern descendant of the awl, used in making the
earliest examples of clothing. a tool with which holes can be punctured in a
variety of materials, or existing holes can be enlarged. It is also used for
sewing heavy materials, such as leather or canvas.
8. Seam ripper- tools designed to slide between sewn stitches and gently cut the
thread without tearing at the surrounding fabric. used for cutting and removing
stitches .
9. Needles , Hand Needle- a long slender tool with a pointed tip at one end and a
hole (or eye) to hold the sewing thread.To create a passage in the material for
the thread to pass through.
10. Thread- special kinds of yarns that are engineered and designed to pass
through a sewing machine rapidly.To form the stitches that hold the fabric
parts together. They can be described by fiber type, construction, and size.
11. Measure tape, Transparent ruler- a long, thin piece of plastic, cloth, or metal
that is marked with units of length (such as inches or centimeters) and that is
used for measuring things. taking your bust, waist, hips and many other
measurements that allow you to create the perfect fit.
12. French curve- This is the most commonly used curved ruler in pattern making.
It features a combination of gentle curves, arcs, and straight edges. used in
manual drafting and in fashion design to draw smooth curves of varying radii.
13. Yard stick- is useful for checking hems and drawing long lines. Measuring from
the floor to the hem length helps to gauge the finished drop of the hem.
used to measure lengths of up to three feet.
14. Pointer and crease- a plastic or wooden hand held tool that has one pointed
end and rounded lengthwise edges. used to crease folds or to keep seam
allowance open during the ironing process.
15. Needle Threader- a diamond shaped wired attached with handle helps you out
in needle threading when you become tired or having eye sight issue. It used
in passing a thread to needle.
