Water (density 1000 kg/m3) flows steadily into the pipe assembly shown through a flange with internal
diameter 𝐷1 = 5 cm at a volume flow rate of 0.030 m3/s with a gage pressure of 40 kPa. It discharges to
atmospheric pressure through two pipes with diameters 𝐷2 = 2 cm and 𝐷3 = 4 cm. The volume flow
rate through the pipe with diameter 𝐷2 is 0.007 m3/s. The pipe assembly weighs 2.5 kg and has an
internal volume of 1.5 L that is filled with water. The assembly is held up entirely by forces exerted on
the flange by fasteners. The angle 𝜃 is 60°. Determine the horizontal and vertical components of force
that must be provided by the fasteners at the flange to support the pipe assembly during operation.
